To be fair, Rarity in particular seemed to experience a lot of schadenfreude towards Dash this episode.

This does of course not mean that they aren't friends, Rarity is just a bit more vindictive than the average pony. Also, it's always fun to scare the shit out of your friend, even more so if you genuinely like them.

I actually like seeing the more playful and kinda smug side to Rarity sometimes. Rarity is actually a rather silly pony at heart despite how prim and proper she tries to carry herself and it's fun to see that break through. (Also why I tend to like her paired up with Pinkie, against all odds Rarity is actually usually the one who takes Pinkie the MOST seriously)

Besides AJ was just as smug, and having just as much fun with the whole situation. Her and Rarity were just having a good time with it all.

It was a legitimately bad episode.
If it had been an Applejack episode nobody would have gotten their hopes up beforehand.
If it had been a Fluttershy episode people would have been satisfied as long as she didn't go full shy again.
If it had been a Twilight episode the focus would have been on the "lesson".
If it had been a Ponk episode we would have cried "Flanderization".
I don't remember what we do with shit Rarity episodes.
