I like Horseshoe's idea of MMDW taking place over days/weeks. They never explicitly say it's all at once, so it makes sense that Dash's ego drive was slowly building until it came to a head. I mean, Rarity then had to design the uniform for their alt hero. Dash needed to have her sad moment for character and comeback. It was still bad, but kind of worked.

MLP seems to have something similar. Either it's an important episode in the character's life or just full on craziness or references without any consequences.
I'd put 28 pranks and MMDW in this category. That's not how they are normally. They really don't seem like friends in them and we know that they're good persons. Like incredibly decent. That's for more serious episodes. I think that nobody was even thinking about the characters while pitching these episodes.
