In such a situation you'd probably have a scene where a purple whisp would be seen traveling to the tree of harmony and entering it.
They'd probably also have a scene where twilight would converse with the spirit of the tree "inside" of it where it would give her advice and make her make a spiritual growth to a new level of what her duties entail and what she wants for equestria before it would let her go.

Kind of like how in thundercats Lion-o dies and has to undergo a spiritual trial on the astral plane to return to life.

The others realize Twilight is indeed not dead but is just regenerating (yay exposition into the nature of alicorns). But they are on a major time crunch and don't think they can just wait around for her to come back.

So Starlight has to step in and they manage to not fuck up. The final lesson of Season 6 could be through her. Something about stepping up and how if others/your friends believe you can do it you should believe in yourself too (at the very least your attempt will probably work better), or something. Kind of fits the theme of the show. And makes the others put their faith in Starlight.

Then Twilight wakes up and is ready to "do her thing", horn charged, all gunho... and the problem is already resolved. Twilight gets to show us humility and congratulate Starlight.

It would be a decent compliment to the opening.

How about this: Twilight gets incinerated. The other 6 don't realize she's regenerating, and starlight tries to step up and become the "new" twilight in her place.

Cue the plans falling apart, and starlight having more and more mental breakdowns over the fact that she's NOT twilight and things are failing.
Eventually they get captured she has a big blowup over this with the other 5 comforting her over feeling like she had to "Become" twilight just because twilight was teaching her, and that she doesn't need to feel a responsibility to do that.

Twilight finishes regenerating and shows up releasing all of the group from where they were imprisoned.
The mane six together with twilight end up ascending into a super form team ala rainbow power (BUT GOOD this time), possibly temporary alicorn forms or battle armor, whatever, and go on to take out the villain with starlight watching with awe, and contributing at a crucial spot when the mane six are distracted (such as a villain trying to sucker punch one of them)

The end of the episode comes around with all of them celebrating, and Twilight telling starlight that she was training her in friendship, but she's still HER OWN pony and should seek her own path in life despite being trained by twilight.

Starlight thanks twilight for all that she's taught her, congratulates the mane six on how incredible of friends they are and how much she learned, and leaves back to that village of hers to carve out her own path for herself now that she's "graduated" from twilight as a student.


Starlight moves down to be a secondary character again ala Big mac, and we move on to s7 with the book closed on The arc of twilight teaching starlight.
