As a fan of pony who also works with DHX, I would rate the seasons like so.

I can't rate season 6 yet but it's pretty high up there.

Also, based on what I've seen them planning for Season 7 I can say this, you guys will either consider it the worst or the best by far depending on how it gets executed. They've decided to take some incredible risks with the story, much of which is related to the movie from what I could tell.

Just be prepared, season 7 is going to be one hell of a ride.

Looking at the episode list I think I know why S3 is ranked so low: It's because it doesn't really have any stand out fantastic 'great' tier episodes.

Every other season no matter how shit I may think it is has at the very least 1 episode that was really really exceptional, in fact all of them except 6 so far (Saddle Row is pretty consistently considered great, but Gauntlet of Fire/Flutter Brutter are more contested) have had a handful of exceptional episodes. Not S3 though. There's some 'good' episodes but nothing I would consider great really. And of course it had that godawful second half culminating in the blunder of the century that is MMC.

There's no redeeming quality to S3. If we wanted to get objective here, S3 would probably score the lowest on average by pure episode scores.

That being said, it's not like any of the other seasons don't have flaws or really shitty episodes that could rival MMC I'd say Applejack's day off is the single worst episode in the show because it's a total lack of any good writing. MMC feels rushed as fuck but at least they didn't manage to waste any time and had pretty music. but they all manage to keep a better balance of Great/Good/Meh/Shit.

I don't know about that. Magic Duel is Celestia Tier in my books and iirc it got very good ratings overall too, while s4 and s6 didn't have any episodes that I'd consider to be exceptional. Saddle Row Review was good, but I never quite got why it scored 10/10s so consistently.

I think the two major reasons most people put s3 so low on their lists are SAYS and MMC. Other than that it's pretty much like s6. Consistent, but not outstanding.
