It was random and funny, it had Anon in it, and it didn't follow all these retarded rules this general has created.
>>
>>27836139
Curse. It's not better in any one specific area, it just has an overall excellent product. Great characters, great art, etc. Also it has Basil.

It's not really an opinion if almost everyone keeps bitching at everyone who wants to try and be a QM what they should and should not do if they want to run a quest.

What happened with that ghostpone cyoa? Any hot opinion on it?

I like ghostpones.
>>
>>27836697
He vanished after the last world gen thread a while back. I was really curious to see the outcome too.

Maybe the outcome from all the suggestions was terrible to the point he just ran off.

Hold up. Whoops. I think I was talking about the wrong ghost poner cyoa.
>>
>>27836648
The rules he was referring to is the current preference for deep backstories over lolrandum, and a current distaste for anon and gets.

These are not rules or even suggestions. Just what is currently popular right now. A lolrandum anon quest that uses gets could still do just fine.
>>
>>27836768
To be fair people will usually insist heavily on things when a CYOA starts with one of those things out of line. But the QM can always just ignore it. And should if that's what he wants to do.

The idea was to break up the family by having the mom have sex with their son, eventually get her arrested.
But the problem was that the QM put up several walls in their way, since he wanted it to be a cute fun quest, but some players took it as a challenge to try even harder.

Even though a good number said they didn't want it, eventually the QM just quit.

Heya /cyoa/ it's my first time be gentle with me.
Read through the links in the OP and I still got some questions.

-Would this thread care for a little test run of a CYOA or some sort? I do quick 10-minute drawings and wanted to try my hand at this.
-What time would be best?
-Where? Not ready for the big one yet.
>>
>>27838908
>Would this thread care for a little test run of a CYOA or some sort?
Sure thing.

>What time would be best?
Any time. A lot of americans are asleep right now, so if you're talking about what time is best for running, think about starting around 5--7 EST.
If you just wanna do a test, you can do it right now.

>Where?
This thread. For your own CYOA, make a thread.

what would a good qm if the players made a decision that would go against the common behavior of the mc in a situation but he was forced to?
>>
>>27841578
ragequit
>>
>>27841578
Depends on the situation. As the QM, you have to decide these things on a case by case basis.
>>
>>27841578
SO, what quest are you referring too?
>>
>>27841578
The mc does it but has PTSD
>>
>>27841583
>>27841584
>>27841595
>>27841603
okay and what if there was a way that would maybe dissolve the situation in a way that was less uncomfortable with the mc but not fully to the wishes of the players but still mostly? I mean if the alternative was not railroaded but taking the liberty of changing the non key aspects of the wishes of the players in a way that was more or less okay?
>>
>>27841614
I'm gonna need more information here.
>>
>>27841617
the qm was going for a way that was not the full wishes of the players when they made the decision afterwards but instead mostly goes for the wish but not all of it in a way that is hopefully in the interest of the players for the important things. what could the qm neglect or not?
>>
>>27841614
>>27841624
Well, if the qm is changing the action, that's railroading.

However, if the action is so out of character that there's no conceivable way the MC would do it, even under intense pressure, then I guess you could change it a bit?
It's hard to say without actual context.
>>
>you think about doing the right thing but nah
>>
>>27836153
Late but I am reading, thanks for announcing it.
>>
>>27841637
no, not changing the action. what if the qm changes the small parts of the aspects of the decision of the players they have made but not so much that it changes the whole? would that be agreeable?
>>
>>27841578
>>27841614
>>27841624
First off, pause for a second and stop with the run on sentences with missing words. Second, it depends entirely on the situation. If it's explicitly about how the character would act and the QM doesn't think he'd do it in a million years then just make a further post about how the character doesn't want to do it and waffle. Denying an action outright in the post is better than railroading. As long as it's not an either or decision.

>>27841655
How minor minor changes are is based on personal interpretation. QMs change commands in small ways normally when writing them.
>>
>>27841655
Personally, I often change actions in very small ways. Maybe I'll make it so multiple suggestions can more easily be strung together in one post, or just a tiny change in dialogue so it makes more sense.
I wouldn't change an action or piece of dialogue so much it would greatly change the outcome.
>>
>>27841655
You can interpret suggestions in a way that follows the intent without being entirely true to the specifics mentioned, but it probably involves more thought than usual to get it to fit right.
Players may give a QM wiggle room if they know the changes are purely to maintain a character they like.
JAD did this semi-regularly, though it was mainly with dialogue.

>>
>>27841783
Pretending doesn't make you any less retarded, you have that in mind too.
>>
>>27841783
I've never understood the point of pretending to be retarded.
As far as I'm concerned if someone thinks pretending to be stupid is a good idea then they're actually just stupid and anything I say to them is still valid.
>>
>>27841799
Absolutely, I was never trying to imply anything else.

>>27841808

You didn't pretend to be retarded, you acted like a non-native English speaker. We have several QMs that are non-native English speakers, there's no reason to expect someone's being duplicitous automatically.

I'm pretty bad at plots and goals but I imagined my real CYOA would have to do with said tomatoes as a catalyst for stupid shenanigans, is that cool?

>>
>>27846357
Because it's more of a happy and fun quest that you don't need to take so seriously, while at the same time you can mess things up terribly if you're too stupid.

So it's a quest that doesn't have much challenge so you can have fun, but the challenge is still large enough to be concerned over.
>>
>>27846357
It's fine. Can't suggest anything I'd want to see changed, the quest is fun.
>>
>>27846357
I assure you that only a small fraction of the Doxel comments are me. Curse is legitimately well liked.

The characters are quirky and easy to root for, the tone is lighthearted and fun, the multiple MC control is handled well, the lore is enough to move the plot along without feeling overbearing, the art has personality, it has several top tier-waifus, the setting has its own distinct flavor while still feeling like it can effortlessly coexist with the canon Equestria, and you can just generally tell that SomeoneWhoCares really lives up to that name.

It's true, I've been called Doxel several times while playing/praising Curse. So, I'm planning out a Halloween quest early for this year and I've got three ideas of how/ what I will run.
I wanted to see what people here thought so I could gauge interest even though I'm going to make my final decision on what to run early November when I ask which quest to start, since I'm probably going to need to run the quest for 2 or three months for it to end.

(Note, I'm not going to mix aspects for these various ideas since I have reasons for having certain aspects of these quests placed together)

>Option 1: LandFall
*Character Creation at beginning, No limits on cannon races some limits on non-cannon races.
*Number based combat system (Visible)
*No displayed injuries
*Option for lewd/non-lewd at the beginning of the quest (to a degree this will alter the enemy designs. If lewd option is taken at the beginning players can be raped by enemies that defeat the player's party as well as have to option of taking advantage of defeated enemies.
*video game like healing, (Potions spells and stuff)
>Overview: Ponies in town as well as animals and previously inanimate objects are becoming hostile. You take on the responsibility of tracking down the source of these changes and putting a stop to this madness.

>Option 2: Brush
*Set character (Unicorn Mare)
*Narrative based combat system (No numbers all injuries are context sensitive)
*Gritty depiction of injuries (damage will stack as the quest progresses)
*Realistic healing (limited usefulness for healing magic, Wounds must be treated with first aid supplies, injuries will not have time to fully heal during the course of the quest)
*Likely no time for characters to do anything lewd in the quest.(High stress scenario)
>Overview: You are part of an attack force trying to overwhelm a tropical stronghold. Your platoon's helicopter goes down and you as well as the survivors of the crash must make your way to the heart of the stronghold and defeat the heart of evil festering in the stronghold.

[1/2]
>>
>>27853389
>Option 3: Black Horizon
*Character creation (limited to ponies)
*Little to no combat Focusing instead on problem solving
*Lewd options if the opportunity comes up for the MC
*Gritty depiction of injuries (damage will stack as the quest progresses)
*Realistic healing (limited usefulness for healing magic, Wounds must be treated with first aid supplies, injuries will not have time to fully heal during the course of the quest)
*Likely slow build up
>Overview: You are an astronaut preparing for your second mission. You will train for two simulated missions before heading up with your crew of 5 in a shuttle. The mission is to preform routine maintenance and drop off supplies at the space-station. Things begin to go wrong on the shuttle, it's your job to keep your crew and yourself alive and finish the mission.

Thoughts?

2 sounds like a Bath quest, 3 like a Nips quest. The combat in 1 reminds me of Foal Quest.

Read the whole thing. Interesting stuff. The use of a first person pronoun in a scientific paper threw me a bit, but that's just semantics.

You were testing a LOT of variables, but you did a good job of isolating them from each other as best as could be expected, given the circumstances. You even went so far as to remove the dub system to test other features in greater isolation. I approve.

I would have attempted the experiment without rolls to minimize random elements and avoid abruptly cutting the experiment short, but I suppose that's a matter of opinion.

Nice paper, Bath. Thanks for the read.
>>
>>27854966
>>27854992
I don't blame you, that paper is just for people that wanted some information on how the quest ran anyway. It's mostly just about what was being tested what I was intentionally doing and why various shit worked a certain way.
Lots of ins and outs about what I thought of stuff I was trying out.
>>
>>27855201
Probably not going to be testing stuff like this for a long time but as far as continuing the story line I'm likely going to do something around Halloween.
>>27855202
Fuck I forgot about not using first person. This is why I don't get to put my name in respected scientific journal.

As I explained though, rolls were mainly used for determining accuracy of firearms. I didn't want a situation where every shot missed because neither pony has experience with using one or every shot hitting it's mark making everything easy for the two ponies. In essence rolls were used to help alleviate my bias a bit more than anything else.
>>
>>27855331
>In essence rolls were used to help alleviate my bias a bit more than anything else.
Fair enough, I suppose. I would have had success and failure be directly dependent on the degree towards which the players used the ponies creatively, to encourage solutions other than "fire and hope for high numbers".

Again though, just a matter of preference.

I read it but all I feel is seething hatred from the "you were basically at the end but ya fucked it up." Fuckin' Heat only no god to revive us.

To be fair, Heat's bad end came after we had fulfilled all the requirements for a good end and died to the last dangerous dice roll of the CYOA.

This is stumbling to the protectors of the final boss and not telling one moron that he's a moron. Ironically it happened immediately after "I don't think either of us has come this far just to die here."

>>
>>27855380
There are still instances where the players will end up having two ponies standing on a beach in the open shooting at each other. I'd rather leave that up to luck than decide both of them hit miss or which of two survive.
It's more for making decisions for those times where players do want to rely on luck since creative/ good solid plans will almost always get a successful outcome from me without rolls.
>>27855457
It's understandable, but with the way things happened it felt like that situation needed to be as decidedly brutally heavy handed as it was. I still stand by that decision since I feel like the environment I gave the players could have been used much better, especially when they had something close to 12 hours to come up with a good plan, before and after Squeezy got shot.

Also any thoughts on Experimental criticism ect are totally welcome. I always love feedback both positive and negative.

Is it on anonpone?
>>
>>27855587
I blame people being lazy and not calling a retarded suggestion retarded.
>>
>>27855649
Yes, but I've been told it's difficult to read through.
It was enjoyable to play through, minus one guy who was constantly trying to turn the MC into a moron.
https://www.anonpone.com/heat/
>>
>>27855609
>That's Don't Fuck.
Are you retarded? Don't Fuck is the one with the little unicorn filly in the forest.
>>
>>27855666
>difficult

In what way? How it's formatted? It's style? Or do you mean by it's content.
>>
>>27855686
I'm pretty sure that's Foal Quest X.
>>
>>27855701
And I'm pretty sure Foal Quest has the trap.
I'm also pretty sure you are actually retarded.
>>
>>27855690
If I were to guess, I would say yeah, in its format/style. I suppose it works well as a play-by-play CYOA, but doesn't read well as a greentext on its own.

I didn't have this problem with it, so I can't really tell you what the problem is.
>>
>>27855712
Colt Quest is the trap.
>>
>>27855690
Can't say anything about Heat particularly but I didn't have any trouble with Dirty Work's backlog and it's by the same QM.
>>
>>27855686
Don't Fuck is the quest with the mare in heat,(blech) that has to resist the temptation to give in. And closely named to it is Don't Fuck Up, which has you playing as a gold loving unicorn whos got a curse that is turning her into gold.

>>27855701
>>27855712
Foal quest is the quest by Nips where you play as a filly and fight monsters and level up and stuff and stuff.

Colt quest has the trap like >>27855737 says.

He's got a thing for mares with really warm vaginas.

Nina and Easy probably feel like they are giving your cock a warm oil massage while you fuck them, so not only due you cum, you cum while feeling extremely relaxed.

Careful with those warm oil massages. It might just end up being a deep fryer.

Updates have been sporadic and short. They feel rushed when they happen. I've been getting the impression that the QMs aren't really into it anymore, maybe the players too. I could be wrong but that's the impression I get.
>>
>>27858815
I can get what you're feeling.

To me at least, it feels like the story's been stagnating.
There's a lot of messing around while we wait for events to progress, and the main story should have been moved forward a while ago.

You know, because Bath poners are never finding comfort and fulfillment from things like cuddles and dress-up.

Anons, if you could choose one CYOA universe to go into, which one would it be?
>>

Tinepone, Heart of Iron, or CurseQuest. They all take place in canon Equestria. In fact, I'm going to pretend they all take place in the same universe.
>>
>>27859141
What is the likelihood of running into the quest characters?

>>
>>27858863

>>
>>27859277
It depends, cause you can be in the same world but not the same city
If you're in the same city there's a pretty high chance, like how you'd probably meet Pot if you lived in Ponyville
>>
>>27859277
depends on the quest.
In something like Shooting Stars you'll probably end up in Fruity's party because you came from another would when in something like 11-54 you'll probably never know that you're inhabiting the same world.
>>
