The first movie lacked explanation and detail of Sunset and Celestia's relationship and how she came to power in the school, something that IDW had to make some bad non canon comic to cover up

Rainbow Rocks had too many pointless scenes and though Sunset seemed to be the only one of the main characters who wasn't retarded, she never did much in the middle and beginning aside from tell the others what to do because she wasn't a part of their band for some reason (I still don't get this)

The third movie had cut content that touched on her feelings for Equestria and returning, something that should have been prominent in the other two considering that she was all about wanting to rule over it as a demon horse queen, but it was cut for time because the staff is full of retards

Sunset's entire story has been about redemption. It's one of her strongest traits, knowing she did something stupid and actively working to be a better person because of it.

Forgiveness alone is stupid. Every one of the mane 6 can, and regularly do, give it. But without redemption, it's a pointless gesture for the character it's given to. That's what gave us Starlight, all the forgiveness but none of the redemption, which makes her feel incredibly awkward in season 6. Redemption on the other hand is a journey, and it makes the characters involved much more interesting.

It's also something Sunset can teach others without treading on Twilight's ground. Twilight teaches how become friends, even if you fucked up in the past. Sunset teaches how to own up for your fuckups, and use the lessons learned from them to get better.
