Not OP, but that's dumb. It took me until 3 years after getting on the ride to realize my love for my waifu, who has been around since season 1. The fact that my feelings grew over years of observing and getting to know her doesn't make my love any less valid than someone who claimed their favorite mane 6 as their waifu as soon as they first saw her.

I get what you mean about the possibility that he left his old "waifu" meaning he doesn't know what it means to have a waifu, though that's not exactly fair, either. If he called the wrong character his waifu in misunderstanding before finding his true waifu who he genuinely loves, he shouldn't just stick to "waifu" #1 out of obligation, and his feelings for his true waifu shouldn't be invalidated over it.
