I'm kinda curious: after the whole fake project debocle why has no one else tried to make an OC based pony game for sale.

It seems like it would raise a lot of money whatever the game might be (hell put it on steam even), and yet nothing. Or did everyone who could actually make a game from scratch left mlp?
>>
>>27702921
Why does this shit keep coming back?!
>>
>>27702921
I've wondered this as well, there seems to be a real demand for a game like this. Even if the game designers aren't into mlp I feel like just based on how much money they could make would drive them to make it.
>>
>>27702943
I don't know, maybe the fandom has died out enough where there's not as much money as we think there is? Hell even EQD doesn't get that many replies to posts anymore and mlp oc animations releases have slowed down to a trickle.
>>
What kind of "game" would people want. A visual novel?

I think there are two pony games "under development" on Steam Greenlight, however how much of a chance of actually getting finished or being good they have is debatable.

There are at least three pony dating sims under development that plan to be varying degrees of free (and varying degrees of dating sim). And then of course there's BFED which is complete as of 10 months ago.
>>
>>27703316
As far as steam greenlight i remember some 3d celestia/luna thing when they were young game.

What pony dating sims are wip?
>>
>>27703075
Dat pic
>>
>>27703322
There should be some other Greenlight pony game which is a puzzle game I think.

For dating sims, tiarawhy is doing one (>implying it'll ever be done), and Brütamod and Catfood are also each doing one.

"under development" My ass. Hasbro will but a stop to it before anyone notices for sure, especially if it's on a website like Steam.
>>
>>27703440
Heard of unicorn training, whats path of light/ambient?
>>
>>27703493
Just make it with ocs
>>
>>27703566
Couple of 3D adventure games that are on Steam Greenlight. "NIA: Path of Light" is the russian one where you run around in a dungeon or something, "Ambient.Prologue" is the one about totally-not-Celestia, totally-not-Luna, and GOLDEN VERONICA.

>>27703493
They've both been up for months (maybe over a year) and had multiple EqD posts about them. The games are both 100% OCs so Hasbro would have a hard time doing anything against them.
>>
>>27702921
I am busy actually making a game than scamming people.
>>
>>27703704
what are you working on?
>>
>>27703643
>Ambient
I still have the demo installed on my computer I think. Fond memories arise of not having a fucking clue how to make it past the infinite hole that spans too far to teleport past, so I climbed the "mountains" with the help of glitches to later land on top of the inside corridors, letting me run about in limbo before jumping into the portal to get to Luna. I almost wonder if they intentionally did that to see how people would break the game to get to the finish.
>>
Ambient looks like silly fun but I can't get over the awful voice acting and lines
>>
>>27703706
A mlp sim porn game.
>>
>>27702939
Because Sam wants to see if people still remember him.
>>
>>27702921
You can't sell MLP game, silly. It's Hasbro's property the moment you put ponies in it.
>>
>>27703756
anywhere to follow it?

Nope. Just working on programming before I even start art. But, I'll start doing that.

>>
>>27703804
What's the game like as gameplay? Click to date pony? Story? Minigames?
>>
From my experience with the creative community, there's a few reasons:
1. People less savvy in law always want to make it a straight up MLP game. They see some other infringing content and say, "They got away with it", but the minute you start visibly bringing in a bunch of cash your work gets a C&D.
2. The pony craze is no longer at it's peak. When Scam Sam put this up, people were willing to throw cash at anything with horses in it. You'd have a lot harder time selling generic ponies this year.
3. Game design takes a lot of work, talent, and coordination. You'd need a good mix of experience, drive, and planning to make this happen.
4. Scam Sam was advertising the game as "nearly finished". He implied he basically had a full product with a vast amount of content, and all he needed was a little $4k push to finish off the last of it. In reality, that's not how game design works. If you could get to that stage without financial support, an extra $4k is only another two weeks of work at below minimum wage, so why bother asking for the money? You'd just finish the game. He got the support initially because what he promised was too good to be true and people thought they were funding a sure winner.
>>
>>27703824
minimum wage != 4k in two weeks
you are very bad at math
>>
>>27703811
Still at the very basic.
It's like your sim game where you arrive at ponyville and try to fuck them by getting your relationship up.
Minigames sound like a great idea to add.
>>
>>27703848
Split it with eight people and assume they're pulling all-nighters. Coders, character artists, background artists, and whatever else you need. Assume some of that has to go to taxes as well - in the range of 30% of it minimum if you're factoring in SS/Medicaid taxes.

Below minimum wage, anon.
>>
>>27703824
He did a good job on selling it.
The guy is a good sales man but an idiot.

If he actually did work on the product, he would've made a lot of money for it. As well as future opportunities to make more money off other games.
I'll never understand scammers. Why scam and get short term benefit when you can live a better life with a long term commitment?
>>
>>27703886

For him it was because it was all a big joke from the beginning. If you've ever watched any of his other videos, they're all about offending or upsetting other people and being the shittiest, most inhuman person in all situations possible.
>>
>>27703886
He was NOT a good salesman, anon. If I promise you a car that can fly and run on gasoline and you buy it because that sounds amazing, then I scammed you. That's not good sales. If it were legal to lie about your product in sales, we'd never be able to trust a single advertisement because they'd all sound like Sam's game pitch.

The reason he didn't actually make a game and instead tried to run off with a few thousand dollars is because making a game isn't something you do with a magic wand. You don't take $4k and then just "make a game". I'm telling you, throw the man hours on a schedule and you'll see right away that $4k does not get you the people you'd need to make 100+ hours of gameplay like he advertised.

Scam Sam could have raked in $500k for all the difference it would have made. He still would have fucked it away on mismanagement even if he'd been trying.

patreon users won...
>>
>>27703927
...won what?
>>
>>27703930
patreon users earns lots of money.
>>
>>27703948
Funny thing. All the top earning porn patreons aren't even for porn, but for "games". It kinda makes me sad how artists/animators have 1/10th of that (meanwhile shit like simbro has 7k a month or breeding seasons 33k a month).

Why arent people donating to animators/artists more?
>>
>>27703948
For... making consistent content. Which they post according to their schedules. Excluding a few notable exceptions, but the most common use of Patreon is to survive while making actual content. The platform is working because people are putting money in and artists are putting work out such that everybody wins in the way it's intended.
>>
I really want some anon to do this and do it right. I would love to voice act for it and there's a fair amount of talent in the vocaroo threads, I think other anons would be up for it. We would need a good artist, writer, coders, etc though.
>>
>>27703959
Kinda wonder how patreon games $ compares to games released on steam.

yeah
if you don't count pony plattaforming project, those flash shooter games, and others than maybe are a little better in their field, BFED is one of the good games

Are there any textbased games ala CoC/Slablands? Those seem an easy enough project to tackle compared to full blown VNs.
>>
>>27704558
no as far as i know
>>
>>27703790
No, it's only Hasbro's property if you advertise it as a MY LITTLE PONY™ game, or include characters such as TWILIGHT SPARKLE™.

Looks like autists, especially the ones in this fanbase will never have the intelligence and courage to start a horse-related project.

Which is sad, really. Cause the demographic was right the fuck there in your face. All you had to do was light the fire. But now in 2016 it's getting kinda late. You can still try just like Them Fighting Herds did it, but you need their popularity and more time to let people donate.
