It alternates, but I think it was confirmed at some point that her name actually is Vinyl Scratch, with DJ Pon-3 being a stage name. On one of those character cards, I believe. I do agree that they can't trademark it though, since the offical Hasbro trademark as of 2012 spells it 'Vın̈yl Scratch.' Then again, I know nothing about copyright laws, so maybe they can. I mean, they called her Vinyl Scratch on the trading cards.

Really, I think Hasbro is just playing it safe to avoid making people mad.

I also remember Mr Yaridovich claimed they got her name wrong in the Equestria Girls PMV (that Kate Perry song parody, years before actual EQG). According to him the "3" in DJ-PON3 should be read as "E", like "5" in Deadmau5 which it is a reference to and that he knows that because he came up with the name
