It's called Everfree Chronicles. Plenty of stuff written down on the storyline, pseudocode, and design statements, but not a lot of screenshots atm. I'm coding the game engine right now, so it's more technically "flashy" right now than visual. I posted some stuff on some ambient music/story of the blanks threads, here are the two WIPs I've shown so far (I have more content obvs but I don't want to spoil/reveal much yet)

https://twitter.com/EverFChronicles/status/730286388529139712

As far as details on what I'm working on, just got TileMap, Level, World, layering, NPC interactions, and trigger functionalitites done this past week, now I have to do the GUI and a lot of art to get some levels built and tested.

It uses the game engine I've been building since 2013, but it's running on top of the löve2d framework. That means I get instant mac/pc/linux support, ios, android (don't know if I'll ever release it on mobile though) and a lot of other things. Right now my engine has support for camera systems, controllers, dialogue, gamestates, animations, and the other stuff I talked about in the last post I made (tiles, tilemaps, world, levels, objects, npcs, particles, etc). For any other gamedevs out there, I can't recommend love2d enough, it's incredibly good

I use VAs for tons of stuff. But in this fandom there isn't a whole lot of range. So you basically have to have one VA for each individual job to get things done right. For you, you have the right tone of the heavily modest narrator. I lost track of my last VA would did that for me, although I haven't quite needed a voice for that recently. Though that could change in the next few weeks.
>>
>>27472030
The standards have changed anon. It seems that unless you know how to color and shade really well then good luck on getting heavily noticed. Sad but true, because art can still be really good without those things.
>>
I have some ideas for a pony RPG that I'm thinking for half a year now and I'm just waiting for college recess to start drafting something up.

I want to make the engine from scratch because that way I can learn much more about how this stuff works in a more fundamental level, so don't expect anything soon.

Protip: If you ever do decide to go for an Android release, make sure not to put a recognisable pone on your store page. Despite the shitload of crap games from China that rip them off, if you live in a civilized country Google drop on that shit and suspend your game faster than you can say "I want to cum inside Rainbow Dash".

Oddly I drew Gusty the other day. So not sure if I fit this niche.

I felt like coming back to do more film theory threads especially since the new season started, just waited a bit so I have more than 1 episode to work with and then I got caught it work.

What I don't like from most animators in this fandom is that they're usually people who are dismissive towards the criticisms they get.

When someone criticised the animator's work by saying how it's a weak pose, repetitive (Looking at you Mayde) bad camera angle, and making suggestions on how to make it better, they just shrug it off by saying "Oh because I want it to be like this and that, so your criticisms is something that goes against on how I want it to look like. I'm not changing shit." Well then good luck trying to fucking get people to like it if you're not going to change it.

That's not the bad thing. The bad thing is where they cry about it when they finally show it to people and got called out for the same reason as the people that criticised them prior.

At least the VAs in this community are mostly open for suggestions, even that 14 year old VA is asking for it. Animators are just full of themselves thinking that most of what they do is correct when really, all they do is block themselves from criticisms from other people, especially if it's critics who don't animate. Apparently, "they know well enough to survive on their own." Then proceeds to cry about it when their audience call them out for their mistakes.

Not an animator but a guy who makes content nevertheless (PMVs)
I will be honest. I am very passive agressive towards criticism. At first I am in denial but I don't say shit and just think about it and see if there is or isn't some true in it. I never respond to criticism. And if I do it will be later after I determine if the guy knows what he's talking about. Most of the time though rather than responding I try and see what I can do in my next video to fix an issue that was given to me and adress them that way. Sometimes it works and the criticism is for the best to improve.

Most people hate to admit that they did something wrong, which is why animators can have this attitude. If you wanna improve you have to get over it.
>>
I do several things, comics and games but probably the one most likely for people on here to know is the small greentext stories about Britbong Octavia I wrote, i.e. when she tells Anon she's pregnant.
>>
>>27475706
The problem with some animators in this fandom, is that they surround themselves with people who will only ever tell them how god damn frikin amazing they are at everything they do. It's almost as if animation is some insanely high-ticket item of this fandom even though most people just move around cheap vectors that someone else made in a stage. Unfortunately people who genuinely don't understand how to do proper animation go through that high-and-mighty stage from personal experience, and feel as if criticism is just someone "hating on them" or some other immature bullshit.

There are some people who are pretty chill about it though, using it for improvement usually.
>>
>>27475780
Yeah. Yeah best way to use criticism
Sadly you also get the immature feedback like "fuck ponies". I remember that my video once got related to Game Grump's Undertale playthrough. Suggested right next to their video somehow. Bunch of Undertale/Game Grump fans swarmed in with their memes and meme comments and dislikes. There wasn't any real criticism there.

People who do rig animation generally won't do different poses or camera angles because it takes a comparative ass-load of time. You have to draw and classically animate unusual camera angles. It takes weeks as it is to get a good rig built anyway.

Animation has its own technical quirks. You can't do it if you're lazy, but the less lazy you are the less you can do on schedule.

Not an animator but I'm going to throw my two cents out there. I come from the boat of people who do shit for fun. Likes, attention, and dreams of being horzfamuz, are really nice bonuses, but personally, what really keeps me going is the fun that comes out of music. Suggestions are always welcome but I can never make a guarantee of incorporation or heeding or even responding to it positively solely on the premise that the primary reason I even do music in the first place is for funsies. Despite this, it doesn't mean that I don't actually take the suggestions or feedback--I want to grow as a musician and person, so every piece counts.

Not that guy but can't they just say it's hard then? they don't have to make an excuse. Just say it on your skype chat or wherever the critic is. "It's hard to do it that way."
The point he's trying to make I believe is that they stick to what they did, regardless if a better suggestion is made. they justify their reason by making a weak or bullshit excuse.

>Use a trot instead of a walk. That should keep the pacing up to speed based on the scene before. And don't move the camera that way, it's distracting and takes away the attention from the character and puts it on that blue mountain right there where it's very detailed. Don't forget, don't put too much details on things you don't want the audience to focus on. This is a very good strategy in directing the eyes of your viewers.
>Oh I kinda want her to feel lonely so I use a slow walk. I zoom out so I can make her feel lonely. The mountain is color blue! And the Sky is blue! Do you know what her emotion is in this scene? Blue! I think my audience will know it for sure! I also direct the audience's eyes with this orange brick on the floor, complement of blue! Fuck your criticisms, I think I did a fine job! depends on what program you're gonna be using for said animation, and which version. i know after affects is quite hard to get, but it seems as if anything else can be cracked with just a simple file change. you could even use the amtlib.dll from the photoshop crack files for flash, audition, and others in that range it seems.

>>

I guess that might've been a big reason why I picked up more music than animation in recent years. Being unmotivated sucks, because I do have more ideas than I could currently animate with my skill level, pony or not. Someday when i upgrade from this shitty bamboo tablet, I should just get off my fucking ass and put it all into some work in the future so I wont just be "okay" with the outcome.
"Good enough" seems to only get people like me so far. Which is a terrible trait in creating content for other people.

Studying backgrounds/perspective and how to work with the rigs more intensively is a good start on improving, something I genuinely haven't thought about for a long time. Thanks man. I don't get much hard critiques like that anymore.

Don't lie Made. I've seen you picking on lots of animators on their channel telling them how they will never be a "professional" like you. you act like you're a Hasbro Executive, but all you do is do a head turn with a tiny 'bounce' at the end and you think "omg" you're the next Jananimations.

Mutton Bash days are gone and under the dirt pile. Nobody cares for little bobbing anims, do a 1 minute animation with some actual movement (not standing in one spot) and we will see.

The door area does look pretty flat. Needs something to give a stronger impression of depth. Maybe some shading toward the back of the porch would help?

Also, the porch is way too deep. Compare the height (in 2d pixels) of the porch to the height of the flat top of the roof. The porch is like 80% as many pixels, meaning its 3d depth is roughly half the depth of the house (or more).

What projection angle are you using? From the ratio of the chimney it looks like maybe 45 degree? (Assuming the top of the chimney is square in 3d.)

I'm trying to convert people to toonboom but it's tough when the only cracked version out is 10.3 and 12 on mac only. Once you start using it you'll realize how shitty animating in flash is. On the the other hand, flash is still really great to make fast concept stuff and menu systems and such, but requires learning code.

I agree, maybe we should have a separate MLP forum for content creation streamlined under categories for Art, Music, Video, Game, Mixed Media, etc. where people can form collab groups and have a system where people can post/see open group roles and apply for position(s). So in a thread you could see which roles are filled/empty but also you could go on a sitewide search for whatever category "job" you're looking for (e.g. Artist) and see open slots. The site could also have a portfolio section where people showcase their work so others can see where their skill level is at
>>
>>27496463
no, there was no established leader with the final say, so everyone argued about how everything should be done and no one agreed on anything. a leader is something that has to exist for a team to work, but most people arent willing to follow for a project they have no real stake in. no one is getting paid or anything like that, and so people dont feel a reason to follow some random guy.

first of all, learning 3d is a lot of work.
i only ever worked with blender, it's free https://www.blender.org/download/ or ask /3/

on the blender website are a lot tutorials listed but the easiest way is just to search on youtube.
we had some good tutorial links and a lot of models in the op of the 3dmlp-threads but i didn't saved them.

http://www.mediafire.com/download/pxu8naavtacjzra/PonyCreator_Ham.zip
this is my latest version of my model. It has a custom UI for all the functions like changing colors
I'd be happy if someone wants to try it but for an absolute beginner, it could be a little much

This is literally one of my ideas for a game. I want to make a point-and-click puzzle game around the Twilight's first day as Celestia's student, trying to get the key to her library in Canterlot.

I've some good ideas for it, I just need some time to proper learn how to game and think of more puzzles.

It's not as hard as it seems, but it takes time. Drawing you can practice literally anywhere, video stuff has a steeper, but shorter learning curve. Couple tutorials and spent hours in a video editing software and you're good to go. You just need some sort of a vision.
>>
>>27499102
Start practicing, man. I would say probably the easiest thing to get into is writing. I'm not saying the craft itself is easy, because it does take time to master, but anyone can get into story-telling, and everyone has experience they can draw on for inspiration.
>>
>>27499102
STEM shit is good, comrade. It ain't easy to animate. You gotta know your shit to do it. It'll help with music, too, and writing. Drawing, IDK cuz I don't draw

What do you all think of making this thread a regular event? We don't have enough content/posters to be a permanent general not like that ever stopped anybody but making a "monthly content creator thread" might work. It should be okay as long as it's restricted to one thread a month. Thread goes up, sticks around a few days until everyone has posted their updates and the discussion has died down, then goes away until next month.

>>27499354
You talking about "Programming and Animation General"? I remember they tried switching to either weekly or monthly threads toward the end (I think weekly), but by then the community was mostly gone (and in particular, 3Danon wasn't around any more). Plus, that thread was essentially restricted to 3D modeling and animation - it had "programming" in the name mainly because 3Danon decided to make a simple game using his models.

Alright, it sounds like people are either in favor, or aren't opposed but think it won't work. I'll make a thread around July 1 and see how it goes. (No sense doing one for June when that's only 3 days from now.)

It's not that easy man. Toon Boom programmers had made an anti piracy mechanism that doesn't allow you to use tools if they detected a slight chance of toon boom piracy in your registry. All you have is a "Forbidden" cursor in your mouse.

They've been working for a crack for a long time and can't make one. Also, not backwards compatible to older versions so I can't use my cracked Toon Boom Animate pro 2. Only compatible with Harmony, and that thing cost 50 bucks/month here in Canada.

So yeah, have to be done by 10 days. Bloody hell.

The problem I see frequently when a bunch of people who don't know each other get together for a collab is aiming too high. Everyone's always like "let's make a fully scored, scripted, and voice-acted animation" or "let's design an entire game."

I think if we want to do something, we should start out with a small, easy thing, not take it too seriously, and then see how far we get.

If that works, then we can talk about something more complicated.

the underlying problem you're pointing at here isn't the fact that no one knows each other, but rather that there's no formal structure to the group, so there's no way anything truly productive can get done. if there was a centralized system with roles and groups, that would be less of an issue. the more there is to do, the more planning and organization is needed to see it through
geez i sound like twiggles right now. time to get out the checklists
>>
>>27503469
>I think if we want to do something, we should start out with a small
That's a reasonable idea, to be honest. Might I suggest something?

Why don't we meet up to make a small game with Twiggles and the mane 4 to sweep some dust rooms with the rhythm?

The ponies would go square by square sweeping with the beat and piles of dust could be swept with that little spin. Ponk would be a temporally powerup because tail spinning is too op.
>>
>>27503469
>>27503518
This and also this. The way to go is to design a game that's ridiculously simple, but has clear room to expand if the project goes well. The main goals should be so simple that it couldn't possibly take more than a month to make. (Most likely it will actually take 2-3 months, but that's still somewhat reasonable.) The other thing is having someone who's willing to move heaven and earth to get the project out the door, who can keep everyone on track and (ideally) also fill in temporarily when one of the other contributors flakes out so that the project doesn't stall.

Pretty much. Keep it simple, and have a clear order to everything. Most projects are cluster fucks of ambitious people wanting to do something beyond their current reach.
>>
>>27503556
>>The ponies would go square by square sweeping with the beat and piles of dust could be swept with that little spin.

Can you link some reference or draw on paint something? I can't "visualize" what you're saying.
>>
>>27503839
Not >>27503556 but here's how I imagine this going.

The room is a grid, with some obstacles scattered around. All the floor squares in the grid start out covered in dust. You (Twilight) start in one corner, and your goal is to dust the whole room.

You move with arrow keys, one grid space at a time. When you move into a square, Twilight sweeps that square. If you time your movements so they line up with the beat of the music, you gain energy, and when energy hits max, Twilight spins the broom around to clean a 3x3 area instantly. Of course the energy numbers should be tuned so that a perfect 4-step "sweep, sweep, sweep, sweep" combo will get you the spin each time.
>>
>>27503839
(>>27503556) here. Actually I thought something 1-dimensional but >>27503911's idea is so much better.

The objective would be to clean up every single squares in the room to pass to another one. It's quite simple to program that kind of logic, the animations can be simple (I'm thinking something in the lines of Necrodancer) and shouldn't have a whole bunch of sound effects.

We could put a few default songs and let the player select their own musics.
>>
>>27503911
>>27504080
welp this is neat
You guys will need 1 pixel anon, 1 programmer and 1 musician.
I don't know how to explain but what if you split the project and make a list with things to do and anyone in the thread can check 1 item or more?

Nope nope nope. Everything else sounded great, but the code for this (extracting beat information from arbitrary MP3s) is 10x more complicated than the entire rest of the game.

>>27503556
just because it has to be simple doesnt mean it cant be fun. tower defense games can be pretty fun and are also relatively simple.

Good luck goys.
>>
>>27504212
Really? Well, scratch that then. I really thought it was relatively easy to implement.

>>27504191
A list?

From the top of my head this project will need:
· 1 lead programmer
· 1 or 2 artist(s) (animation and static elements; UI; little effects)
· 1 or 2 soundguy(s) (musics and SFX)
· 1 guy to take care of progress. TO-DOs and to see how everyone is doing
· (Optional?) writefag to write some random dialogues mid-game and/or cheese dialogue when starting cleaning (puns anyone?)

Code: relatively simple
>Given a BPM, check if the players input is a multiple of a beat to reward points and combos
>Logic to check winning, bonuses conditions and scoring
>timer (music length?)
>UI logic

Graphics (define a tile size beforehand):
>UI and menu elements
>static sprites like dusty/clean old furniture, floor
>~3-10 frame animations to the ponies
>-- Standing, sweeping and spining broom
>clean effects, dust clouds when swept

Sound:
>UI sounds
>menu music
>in-game music
>sweep, spin sound effects
>start, win/lose

Text (self explanatory)

After that we could expand the features
>"static" objects could be animated
>leaderscores
>wild animals and foes (ghosts, dance ponies, the possibilities are endless) getting in the way
>etc
>>
>>27504397

>>
>>27504397
Don't forget someone needs to make the levels. Probably one of the artists can do it, since most of the work for a new level will be artwork (backgrounds + obstacles). The other part is mapping out walkable vs. non-walkable spaces, which either the artist or the programmer can do. (Even without a level editor, you can just fill out a grid by hand with 1 for walkable and 0 for obstacle.)

I think the code will eventually need to be a little more sophisticated than just matching against BPM in order to support more complex music. But just BPM is probably fine for the initial version.

Given the miscellaneous sound effects (menu sounds and such) aren't really essential to the gameplay, you can probably get away with taking free sound effects from somewhere like http://www.opengameart.org.

For a team this small and a project this simple, I'm not sure you need a dedicated organizer. One of the artist/code/music guys can probably organize in addition to other work.

For a big, long-term project (LoE, /mlp/VN, FO:E game), yeah, you want experienced people as much as possible, especially in the leadership positions. But for something small it should be fine as long as you get people who are reasonably competent and will actually do the work for the 2-3 months it takes.
>>
>>27504675

>>
>>27504397
I guess I could do some of the graphics work. Although I'd probably have to stick to menus and UI. maybe static sprites.
>>
>>27504821
In general, yes, but too many in the same role on the same project can be a problem. One person does things one way and life is good. Ten people try to do things ten different ways and then spend the next month arguing about whose way is best. Search the archives and check out the threads about how having 30 writers killed the /mlp/ VN project with endless arguments and drama. or just wait a few days, there's one anon who's so butthurt about it he reposts the same thread every 2 or 3 weeks

Though with the sweep game in particular, having multiple musicians is probably not a bad thing. For a game like this, ten musicians doing things ten different ways just means your built-in track list has some variety to it.
>>
>>27504922
yeah obviously, I was talking about him posting on this thread in general, not about having another X or Y on any given project.

It would be nice if it allows anyone to contribute without compromise. Like do sprites or some art without reading walls text about the whole thing.

>I put the title "Why Bronies Clop" that generalizes a specific type of group of people, yet I blame those who misread the title assuming that it's talking about bronies as a whole.
The fact that people are confused if you're talking about bronies as a whole or not shows that generalizing the term "Bronies" is too specific to most people. You should understand that rather than saying "I just don't care" yet proceeds to blame them. If you don't care if they understood your title or not, then don't blame them for not getting it, you dummy.

>The word "autism" is now a word that lost it's meaning. People who don't know are idiots.
Where did this come from? You can't claim that the term "autism" lost it's meaning out of nowhere especially to a group of unsuspecting people like youtube comments. They will not know that you're talking semantically when you say "autism" and the fact that many people are confused about it shows that you shouldn't blame them for not understanding your point, you dummy.

>Makes fun of gramatically error comments and laugh for more than 10 seconds not assuming that they might not have English as their language, they're just kids who don't know better, or just a typo. "Ohh! Proofreading people!!"
You're not going to go far with that type of thinking Shelldon. Not surprising, you dummy.

Also, I'm humoured with Fuyona whenever she keeps saying "go to college or high school and understand this shit" right in your ears. Pure Gold.

Don't claim all bronies are dumb.
Don't be so extreme in your words.
Start caring for other people's struggles.
Don't just say "I don't care about them."
That way you won't be as dummy as your are right now. But hey, up to you.

to be honest, everything in this thread is fucking awesome. I can't speak for everybody, but I don't reply to everyone simply because I don't have time to check out everything that people have posted. the amount of content in active production is amazing, regardless if it's from horsefamous people or not. after all, the only way people become horsefamous is by not being horsefamous and then creating content that people like. people on this thread could be horsefamous in a year, three months, a month, or less, or more, no one knows. heck, the one anon who started the pixel mlp pron game thread a few days ago already has his pics topping the derpibooru charts. that's the beauty of the internet, your content becomes famous (in theory) by its merit and quality, not by how many hollywood producers' dicks you can suck at once.

this thread is incredibly uplifting to me as a content creator since it shows that this fandom is not dying yet (and that my own time and effort into producing mlp content isn't wasted), despite what the whiny barneyfags want us to believe.

You seriously have to know what you're doing if you're using anti-aliasing in pixel art. But you're a part of the MLP community, i think you should feel at least a bit of love when you listen to music musicians do, or look at these cute pony arts artists draw. Content is made for the public and (can't speak for everybody, but i hope it's a common thing) content creators hope that listener would enjoy it. When it comes to big producers and money and proper buisness it's absolutely different, but in MLP community there's a lot of LOVE to other people that cannot be expressed in real everyday world.

All of that is imho, ofc. It's a part of what i try to express when i do my content.

But how can I start drawing ponies? Do I just draw one per day no matter what it will end up like? Because I don't think that would work and I would probably end up like Chris Chan.
>>
>>27510868
don't focus on just one drawing a day. if you really want to start doing drawings, really work at it and draw as much as possible in an hour. different poses, building characters out of simple shapes. 30 different drawings in an hour is a fuckton better than 1 drawing in 2 hours. practice with chicken-scratch style lines everywhere and just slowly build the hand and stability to work with simple strokes. a messy sketch is a messy sketch, you don't need to match the same cleanliness as some of the really experienced artists around. build your own experience
the only way to get good-doodles is to just do it often and force improvement. also listen to critiques, there's always room to improve no matter how good somebody gets
>>
>>27510868
That's what I do, and honestly I'm starting to get proud of the results (sometimes). I considered stopping numerous time in the 2-3 first months, because everything looked like shit and I wasn't feeling like I was making that much progress.

I learned the theory with "how to draw stuff" guides, and then learned fine proportions / positions by re-drawing stuff from good artists. Not sure if I'm the only one, but having a clear model gave me a much needed confidence boost - drawing without any "safeguard" was kinda overwhelming when I started.

Other personal tip that may not apply to other : work on paper unless you can afford a VERY good drawing tablet. I wasted at least a month before discovering that mine wasn't that great and was actively making my drawings worst.

Ok, after thinking things through, I will post more of my things. There are several reasons for this actually.

My PC screwed itself and shit the bed, I managed to get it back working. I managed to get it working, but I lost everything. All the projects I've been working on, all the stuff required from my editing, like even Sony Vegas itself, just gone. So it will take longer for me to make another video, which is kinda shitty, but this isn't the first time this has happened. I hate being in a place where I can't make videos.

As I appeared in this thread again. I make PMVs. I am this guy.

>>27474845

I just feel like my skills fall flat when compared to others. Or something along the lines of that.
It also gets kind of weird when I work on a PMV for like 6 months and get like 3k views on it, and then I see a guy who just used bunch of artworks from other artists, put a song over it and call it "PMV" and get like 500k views for it or so, even millions sometimes.

If I were to choose these would probably be the actual favorite PMVs I've done. But not everyone may see it that way.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love doing this. It is probably the thing that is most enjoynable for me to do. Nothing quite compares to that feeling when video that took a while to make gets released. A lot of my videos come from kind of a personal place. It almost makes me feel like I can express myself somehow through this.
I cannot tell if it is good or not. I just feel like these videos may not be good enough as I'd like them to be. I have been doing PMVs for some years and I am not sure if people really like them that much and how much I improved, I refuse to stop though.

And to other content creators, you guys are all fucking amazing and great, don't stop.

Now with this posted, I will head off to bed.

this and another animator got me back into animating again, but i've still hit the same roadblocks as before

Which exporting method is the best for gifs or full on animations?
What resolutions/aspect ratios should be used?
How do I use puppets/symbols alongside frame-by-frame and have it look NOT terrible?

I think the main thing is to draw what you want, don't draw for anyone else. i only started drawing properly when i realised that i didn't have to show anyone, i could keep it secret. so it doesn't matter if its trash, it doesn't have to be good all the time, but once every 100 sketches you get a great one.
since then I've filled maybe 4-500 a4 sheets and 3 a5 sketchbooks of trash, but its progressively better trash and it feels good.

there's nothing better than thinking of something you want to see, finding it doest exist, then drawing the fuck out of it
>>
>>27511628
Only way to do that is to animate the symbols fbf (or on twos) and then in-between that by auto tween instead of how a lot of people do it where frame 1 is start and frame 15 is end and everything in between is a tween that looks robotic and dead.

>Which exporting method is the best for gifs or full on animations?
I'm assuming you're using Flash, and if so, mess around with the publish settings. The "gif image" tab has some stuff to change the quality and type of colours the gif will use. When you want to export a gif, don't use the "export" option. Publishing the gif will make a pretty decent quality one in the directory the FLA is in, if you've saved the file with a name at some point. If you haven't saved it, it'll probably show up in some temp file somewhere on your PC as "Untitled-#" or something.

>What resolutions/aspect ratios should be used?
Resolutions don't really mean much if you're using vectors. You could export a 16x9px file into full 1080p if you really wanted to through Swivel. The resolution of the flash file itself doesn't matter. I personally work with 800x450, since it creates a smaller filesize and uses less RAM, but if that isn't an issue, anything bigger would probably work a lot better for the sake of being able to zoom in to the individual atoms of the character and other crazy high-res stuff.

>How do I use puppets/symbols alongside frame-by-frame and have it look NOT terrible?
This is really tough to pull off, since they're very different animation mediums. Something you could try to redraw over each symbol in the puppet a few times, and then set the symbols to loop to give it that jittery effect that traditional FBF animation has. Otherwise I'd say just do it in traditional, but mix puppet building techniques with it.

7/10, bretty gud

The joke near the start about "I did say VIRGIN alicorn blood" killed my sides. The bit about the towels being ghosts was okay but seemed a bit forced, especially when it got to the "washing machines = portals to hell" part. ("Dash would only be here if she was dead" was good though.)

IMO it might have gone better if the ghost thing was replaced with a completely unrelated joke, and then mention the alicorn blood treatment at the end as if it were a perfectly normal spa service.

But like I said, still pretty good overall.
>>
>>27507701
>Why did you stop...
Because using stolen assets for animation has been comdemned by the fandom.
Now I'll be honest, it's pretty fucking stupid to discourage people to use those assets, especially when they're not profiting from it. It's just like pirating adobe software. You're not going to condemn people for pirating it are you?

Go on. I'd like a conversation.

I'm no successful PMV maker myself but the only advice I can give you is that sometimes less is more. When you reach the point of including three clips at once overlayed with heavy effects (though I get the mood you're trying to set), it all becomes too confusing and less attractive.
But yeah, making it for the views nowadays is nigh impossible, the bar is set way too high and there's no drive for people to really check out the lower class PMVs anymore. Back in 2011 and 2012 it was very well possible.
It is really best to make this more for yourself, for the joy of making it, seeing the finished product turn out how you wanted, and maybe get a compliment or two from the others.

For a tip, though this comes down to personal taste, yet again - ease up on the effects, go for a smarter composition. Everytime I discuss PMVs with someone I have to shill my personal favorite. It's great, keeps you watching, without a flaw, entertaining. Notice that there are basically no added effects. Just well thought out composition and clips.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxdHf20mMFc
And that really is all it takes. Some edits and effects to sweeten the deal are great, but the composition is key.

>>27513234
My honest suggestion is this.
One
>Whoever thought of the game either draw it out, or work with a drawfag to draw out how it would work
>codefag gets a running model with extremely basic assets and controls
Two
>test to make core mechanics fun
>do a trial run with already made dance song
>little by little, add in essential artwork, and game mechanics
>all while musicians make suitable songs
>repeat testing phase with new mechanics/song
Three
>polishing/tweaking

Like I said, it's just a suggestion coming from organization experience. It may seem silly, but you do need to pace yourselves with this.

art is a still shot/frame depicting a scene or character(s). there's a shitton of art theory behind good art but a piece that has achieved "perfection" could perhaps be achievable theoretically. a story depicts movement, character progression and interactions, and good writing exhibits the subtle nuances of the interactions and the characters' psyches and the effect the context is having on them. the breadth and depth of writing is therefore typically greater than that of an image. why the fuck would anyone disprove that? take your (You)s elsewhere, kiddo

That sounds like a good idea. Start with only a few people and add on more as it progresses (or something like that). Then, with that team, potentially work on something bigger after this "test" game is complete. That's my 2 cents, anyway.

>Don't forget someone needs to make the levels
That's actually very important, noted.

As for the BPM sophistication it's like how you said, let's keep it simple and not be too ambitious from the beginning. That way we're more likely to actually finish this little project.

>>27505208
Sadly I don't believe a bunch of artfags collab would look good for the same "section". The styles will probably clash with everything if, for example, various different artists make small pieces for the levels.

Quick disclaimer: I'm not arguing the quality of these stories. They may in fact be great, and I don't know that.

Length is not synonymous with quality.
>but it doesn't have the same weight as something that's been built-up and taken care of
Carelessness manifests itself in many forms. More often, carelessness is when the author drags on too long. They make us spend time with a character they find fascinating, but their actions do nothing to advance the plot, and we learn nothing more about the character. Then you have the problem of useless descriptors, flowery language, and pointless scenes in general. As for build-up, I half-agree. If you want build-up and tension, you need more length, but more length doesn't equate to meaningful contributions to the story.

I don't think I have time for this but I guess I'm doing it anyway.

https://epdtry.github.io/sweep-game/sweep.html
Github: https://github.com/epdtry/sweep-game

Art/music needs:
- Music. Must have a constant BPM, and the code needs to know what that BPM is.
- Player sprites. Needs idle, walk, and spin animations. The current sprite is 32x32 but we probably want to go with something a bit larger for the real deal.
- Level graphics. Needs a background image, and images for obstacles. The easiest format for coding purposes is to have two layers, one that renders below the player and one that renders above (for obstacles that the player can walk behind).
- Dust-related graphics. In particular, a dust overlay that can be drawn over parts of the level to make it look dusty. Needs to have various edge/corner variants so that the dust can form any shape. Also, needs an animation for dust getting swept away, for when the player moves over it.

Code needs:
- Match movement times against the song's beat
- Track current energy
- Implement spinning effect when energy is full
- Render dust better (once overlay graphics are done)
- Check for the win condition

Yeah. I will keep making videos. As long as it's fun. I should focus on that. I think I should stop caring about achieving some sorta "horsefamous" status or be on EQD or something.

And as for my sleep.Time zones! It's 8am in here right now.
>>
>>27514900
Chasing status is way too hard nowadays. Just check what's on EqD, it's mostly incredibly skillful solo stuff or recently collaborations between multiple people to spread the man-hours. Good luck getting noticed, I know well enough that it's virtually impossible. Gave up trying, now I'm just making stuff for myself mostly.

And yeah I know, I'm CEST as well but since I got under 3 hours of sleep I don't think anyone should be awake at 7 AM it's like you have a life or something
>>
>>27514993
I actually sometimes got on EQD. Few months ago. Which surprised me. But yeah. The worst part for me is that I feel like the worst PMV I did are most liked and viewed. They were from 2012 or so. Makes sense in that regard

And yeah I gotta wake up that soon. Life'n shit
>>
>>27515079
Well maybe they aren't the worst actually. Look from an outsider's perspective, what is it they like more about it? It can be random sometimes, but maybe you'll find some answers.

I got featured back in early 2012 when it was just 3 PMVs per post instead of today's 1-3 Awesome/10 Standard. Shit was way easier then. Got three or four thousand views out of that and couple tens of new subs and that was it. Definitely not the big breakthrough or boost I expected, but I was happy with anything I could get.
>>
>>27515113
Mh. It is hard to say for me. It was a huge thing for it to happen. Especially in these times. I noticed that videos they featured there were also effect heavy. Yet they were much slower. Stuff like Dollar Days. Stone in the sea and Fair Play. Something like that. Maybe making slow PMVs is something I better at. Or it's more appealing.
>>
>>27514900
>stop caring about achieving some sorta "horsefamous" status
Unless you think it's necessary, you should use fame a way to drive you to create more because the more and more people that like your stuff, the more motivated you get for each content you create. May not apply to all, but, I believe, to most people. Who knows if it would apply to you?
>>
>>27515402
I would not know. I know that I want to make something all the time though. The feeling of finishing something feels amazing.
