Though part of what got me for Gardener in the fic is that he paid attention to the fact that radiocontaminats are surface borne first, but then failed abysmally on the percolation through the soil.

This is a major issue in Gardener, as much is made of the clean soil and water from the contaminated external material.

A more problematic part of this is, that the plants grow fine in the soil, so why not just shave off the top soil until you are free of the contamination?

Instead it just seemed to be this arbitrary under concrete or not for if the soil is healthy.

I usually write long shit posts in the middle of the night about random topics, so I've been doing my part too. Like I wrote the big ole 'Homage is a Machiavellian mastermind' post, I mentioned my idea for a Enclave like faction out of the remnants of the Equestrian Navy, and I also recently talked about a potential Institute stand in of a bunch of pre-war stable ponies who use Soul magic and put themselves in robots, and kidnap wastelanders to make them their 'servants'. Most of them get very few replies at first, though oddly enough it seems people like them enough to mention them several times after the fact so I dunno what else to do to start discussion.

'encouraging discussion' is pretty hard in and of itself. You can't force people to be interested in what you like, so you usually just have to try and come up with something that you think the thread will be interested. This is why Fetishposting continues to be popular. Because despite endless bitching from people who hate it, there still are people who like that edgy shit.

This is also why I still believe fetish posting is a pretty big determinant to the thread and to discussion. As Pahjeetanon demonstrated last thread, when people begin shitposting most of the more normal user just fuck off for a while and wait for them to stop talking. It's just that Pahjeetanon was so bad that not even the usual shitposting cadre were willing to play ball with him, and so the thread died.

So what's the point in trying to start discussion when some faggot can instead start shitposting about ' I want to fart into Pegadoggie's intestines and eat their soupy remains XD' and instantly scare away every reasonable anon for a few minutes or hours? And not only that, the same shitposting anon will inevitably get more replies than my attempt to drum up discussion. So why should I even bother?

Content is the only reliable method of getting discussion going, no matter the quality even (look at PH). The problem is our own resident content creators are either dropping like flies or not pumping out enough content to fill in the gaps made by the recent ded ones. Most of them seem to be burnt out in my opinion too. None of them have really done anything unique in a while.

The slow heat death of FoE is another problem. There really aren't any good stories coming out recently. Most of them fall into a few easily identifiable catagories nowadays: Utter shit, Still birth of varying quality, A decent fic that has an extremely long update schedule (aka most of the popular fics here), or a dead fic. This leads to lack of discussion mainly because people have nothing new to talk about. The book club is sort of flawed in that regard since like half of the fics we read were dead. And people will naturally not want to read a story knowing it'll never ever get a conclusion.

Well, I'm not, no. FS ain't dead, I'm just real busy right now. Two jobs, full time trade school, followed by transitioning into a two month army course has really killed the immediate desire to write. It'll get better once things settle down, but that won't be for a while still.

I like to think the walls needing mural line is actually a lot more important for stable dwellers.
Its effectively a control mechanism, a post hypnotic suggestion for the overmare to use in case things go tits up.

Well I guess this is an excellent way for a wasteland born pegasus inna stable escape story.

He thinks something faulty has happened to the stable, and seeks to fix it.
In reality, the overmare triggered the contingency due to said wasteland birdy's mother escaping under less than pleasant circumstances.
Now he's going to spend an adventure trying to find somepony who can hack the stable's maneframe and save everyone he loves.

After the halfway point and the Overmare leveling, it turns out his mother had lied about seeking shelter for what she knew.
She knew very well how to bring rain back to the wasteland, but she had spent far more time planning on bringing back her reign.
She has now amassed an army of dragon ghouls and seeks to claim the wasteland in her name.

What scale of edits are you thinking of making? Major or minor? The only criticism I had of chapter 4 and onward was that the story never seemed to pick up the pace after slowing down for chapter 4. A lot of words are spent getting them from Chess's place to Fort Neighson, and some of it seems like filler, like the whole ordeal with the tribals.

It would be throughout, without ultimately changing any major events, so no need to re-read for continuity purposes. There were a lot of choppy bits, and the handling of both surrounding and during the sex scene is cringe-worthy, in hindsight. Would probably leave a bit more implied than I did, especially on Grace's part. Lots of people like talking about changling infiltrators, and them taking over lives.
This is boring and not that magical, while requiring a reason for buggies much like the meth kingdom.

What if instead you have the reoccurence of souls.
A common part of reincarnation is the soul is placed into a gestalt body and born normally.
What if instead the balefire fucked this process up and instead the souls are placed as in the world.
Where they have a temporary fleeting body made from their soul and have to find their gestalt and take it over.

The downside being is the gestalt is a normal pony, having lived some chunk of their lives already.

So the soul has a choice of dying and truly vanishing from the world, while the gestalt ceases on death, or taking over and "killing" an apparent sapient being that has done nothing to it.

Or adjust power levels accordingly. Maybe they're the norm for a desert region - because honestly, Steel Rangers would get their asses kicked in open terrain by vehicles. They excel in urban, forest, mountains and in the defensive. What if wartime came and there was a place open enough for proper maneuver warfare, you better believe there would be a lot of wrecked but probably salvageable vehicles. Or even assume the area was part of a massive battle from the time just before the Ranger armour was brought in - we know they had tanks, it seems a fair assumption they had support vehicles, echelon, recce, and IFV's. What if the fic had a lot of focus specifically on the conflict over the fuel for said vehicles? The Mad Max crossovers pretty much just happen, and it could be great to read. Just avoid blatant character rips and re-using exact plot points. At the very least it would be entertaining.

Even with Battlesaddles Ponies have been shown to not be able to carry that much. Most Battlesaddles carry stuff like miniguns/flamethrowers/rocket launchers. Aka all stuff that infantry could actually feasibly carry. If anything ponies seem to be weaker since they need full body braces just to be able to effectively use these weapons.

As for hunting, well there already exists stuff like 40-70 govt and .308 in the stories. Those should be good enough to handle most of the nastier creatures for hunting. 50. BMG would probably kill the animal yeah, but there probably won't be much left to salvage.

And Nymph, please. Injuries in FoE should be total non issue since all they need to do is take a few sippies of some healing potions, maybe a chiropractor, and then they're ready to go back into the fight. Pip got rendered deaf once and Volvo was able to instantly restore her hearing like it was nothing. We obviously can't do that IRL.

The whole 'pegasi with anti-material rifles' meme is just a dumb rule of cool thing and you know it. But if I had to take it seriously: Calamity smuggled his rifles with him when he got Dashite'd, so it's possible that other Dashite smuggled high-tech weapons onto the surface if they knew in advanced they'd be exiled. Since FoE genetics don't work like show genetics (You have to accept this, any sort of deviation will literally break the lore because the Enclave were unable to make any new Raptors/Thunderheads because they didn't have 'unicorn magic'. If you except show genetics this means there could be a Unicorn born in the Enclave who would allow them to make Thunderheads, thus destroying the lore). And with FoE genetics it'd means that pretty much every Wasteland Pegasus comes from a Dashite. So when they run around with those 420 MLG Quickscopers it's actually their precious family heirloom their using.

You're easily talking 30 kilos each for those, then ammo.
And that's even more an issue with the other fact being how many times people have dual wielding ponies.
As is, antimaterial weapons are typically 15 -20 kilos plus ammo, something within the power of most ponies to use.

If we are saying a pony can't even move 50 kilos of gear, then there are serious issues with it all.

By the same token, its quite rare for most fics to even mention provisions as being weighty, much less amenities like the sleeping bags they all have.

So short of doing what the main fic did and having a literal cart to pull all their shit in, its going to be that they carry it all in the enchanted saddle bags.


And yes, while those calibers work, it gets into the issue that if they do, then the target is not much of a threat, and those are both available in semi and full auto versions that would have negligible issues with muzzle climb due to the multipoint attachment and stability of a battle saddle.

So we get back to the same issue I wrote the ballistic sim over, if we accept that standard small arms can deal with everything in FOE, then its basically GPMG everywhere as the ammo is easily made, moved, and used.
Not a very good action world when you have now removed the supposedly invulnerable/very survivable monsters.

Something I've often wondered.
Is it scaled based on cloud size?
So they could something by just snorting a bit?
Or is it the clouds themselves have to be magical and thus come from the SPP/Cloudsdale.
Which if that's the case makes things far more interesting in how it works, where pegasi are using the cloud as the battery.
Personally I think this is the case, as when watching Rainbow Dash, clouds with a mind of their own flying around are not a case to freak out over sentient clouds, but a normal expectation.
So I'd say it needs magic clouds and most all clouds are magic/the only clouds in Equestria are manufactured.


In the sense of what the magic can do, there is cloud tech and capital ships being made, so pretty far.
I think that more the case is that people forget pegasi and griffons can play with clouds for building material, while pegasi can trigger weather.

Nominally, I've had characters keep clouds around as tools on the basis they last fine, with them then using the cloud as building material or a magic focus to chill beer.

As with all things pegasi, they shall betray their own freedom.
So some of the big issues with this chapter is that Murky gets captured just like that, with Shackles always just being there.
Sadly I feel I am going to hate it when I find out why.

Essentially, Shackles is always in the right place to harry Murky in this time, not capture him, but I feel Fuzzy was wanting to make a sucker punch of Murky being recaptured so close to freedom.
It gets really bad later on, to the point it seems Shackles has telepathy or precognition to make sure he is ahead of Murky, not stuff that can be randomly predicted short of there being a select few locations that Murky has to go through as bottlenecks.
This isn't so grating now, but it does raise serious questions later and probably next chapter.

Murky the pet is odd, its like Shackles wants a base slave, but also a status ornament.
These really don't go together short of this being the break in period for his pegawaifu.
Essentially what makes it odd is just how violent Shackles is, not in any way more than a rule through fear or just pain.
Barb and Wicked Slit both had methods to their madness, reasons for the cruelty and end goals.
Shackles as written here is basically stuck on edge with no goal born of it.

Now we do find more of the whole Aurora Star thing and what is the deal with the past, memories and more.
Its just not that much, but points to something much greater than being just memory orbs or memory orbs with neat tricks.
Nice pacing and development on this front actually.

Something that is an issue though is the Mall Gang of Slavers is able to enact a conspiracy to obtain these techs without being stopped bothered or anything else, while admitting that Ragini and Protege are alive and knowing.
What makes this worse is that there were plenty of others that survived, and Blunderbuck, who knew as well of this plot.
And then there are the spies, informants, and possible telepathy that should root it out.

Murky escapes, a lot.
Like really, why does Shackles bother with the loud voice, just go grab Murky and wait around for him to return, again.
Much less do his spooky ghost thing and grab murky later on.
Its rather grating here as Murky is able to give him the slip repeatedly and without cause, yet Shackles doesn't move to change this.

This is an issue as Shackles swears up and down that freedom is not for Murky, yet Murky is constantly going for it, each time succeeding more.
That's not breaking his spirit, its only emboldening him.

The contrived rad collar is stupid, particuarly the 2 more radaways from it.
1.) Murky could just cut it off, he's got access to equipment readily now during the escapes.
Then one quick disposal later and its gone.
2.) If the air is a bigger threat, and effects everybody, the collar would have to be quite hot to hurt murky twice as much as the air.
Which would then mean everybody near him is being dosed as well.
3.)Other masters are going to be swapping that collar on and off to use Murky.
One little trick by Murky or them seeing its radioactive is going to see it destroyed or lost again.

Now for cutes, we do get Murky being carried on the back of a slaver, and Murky drawing daddy Shackles loving him.

Re-reading the fiction, it happened to me that it can surely be so. If you remember the point where Homage ask LittlePip to go to Red Racer to retrieve music for her, she in fact tested Little Pip’s will to satisfy her demands. The Ghoul Doctor was slain in the process.

Similarly, Little Pip asking Homage about if there was a pony that would like her, Homage answered: “I might.”

Is Homage the Pony fighting the good fight, or is she that puppetmaster, using incredibly strong but morally uncertain ponies to rally up fanaticism for her cause, her long-term goal to wipe all type of opposing forces to her ideal, including Red Eye and the Enclave.

If there was a serious effort at curing taint infection, something at once nonexistent and all pervasive, then it needs to be backed.

Original 'Homage is an evil mastermind' poster here. I also don't really agree with the whole 'lel Littlepip is an unreliable narrator XD' stuff to waive away anything that's proplematic. That's why I specified that the the hypothetical edited Book of Littlepip would not be the same as the FoE we read.

To be specific: I say FoE is the original recording Pip made, while the 'Book of Littlepip' is the edited and published version Homage and her Twilight Society cronies made. I speculated a few things that could possibly be removed, for example I was 100% certain Littlepip murdering Calamity's brother was cut. Not only would it work against Homage's agenda, but the only one who could object to the edit would be Pip, and she was too cowardly to admit the truth to Calamity in person herself.

Again, any edits would likely have to go through Pip and the party, so the final copy wouldn't be some drastically different story save a few minor tweaks here and there. It's also possible that some of the secret Pre-war stuff Pip uncovered would be removed in order to conceal them from the general public. Some names might be removed, etc. It's also possible the writing was made more 'sophisticated' and some of Pip's colorful internal swearing would be removed.

Most of the edits I imagine would have to be sneaky. A little rewording here or there can really change the meaning of some phrases.

I also acknowledged in my post that Kkat likely didn't anticipate Homage to be seen as a manipulator. Or, well, more likely he did but wanted her to be seen as a 'good' manipulator because she's 'fighting the good fight' and that 'sometimes being honest is knowing when not to be'. Which essentially just boils down to 'ends justify the means' or more specifically 'If you have a non-corrupt virtue/positive karma you can do literally anything to achieve your goals and as long as you maintain positive karma you are a cool dude'.

Writing from the perspective of children/foals... What the fuck is up with that? I'm looking at this piece I'm doing and I'm struggling with it, not because I don't really know what to say, but because I feel like cringing when I read what I write.

I mean, it makes sense that children who are ignorant or lacking in experience/knowledge wouldn't use certain words. Descriptions would be simplified and perhaps even lacking in description.

Emotions too, very stunted, or at least much more sensitive to those emotions and thus making their reactions more drastic. Watching/listening to children cry at my job or remembering the times I have seen others or myself cry at the age of 4 when I dropped my fucking McDonalds soda makes me wonder... Do we as adults not cry over spilt things or minor discomforts because we are desensitized to it and children are not? Cus that's one of the things I'm trying to write right now.

Today me and my buds found an amazing stash of Dash after we beat up a colt that was saw wondering around. More then any chem I've token recently. So being the cool guy I am, I decided he can have the new stable mare for a day or two to himself. Though he did ask we and the boys all have a go first before he haves her, man that guy is a real champ.

Though sometimes I feel he likes me beating him, and sometimes I love to see him get angry and frustrated, how we share the same room and bed. Not that I like to have him there, just because I feel it best. I love how he sometimes let me be a big spoon in his sleep so we can keep warm. There is just something about his flanks that drive me insane. Like I just want to abuse him and only him. That I know he wants me to do as well....

I've been trying to get back into pony + fallout, but there were a lot of things in the new season that played so well into what I planned there aren't any surprises. Makes it a bit less fun. even starlight glimmer could be referenced, and stuff she designed could play a key role in a particular turning point scene. It would play off the "split timeline" idea fallout loves touting, as starlight would never have really gotten away from her magical shenanigans and ended up getting recruited to make one of the key tech mcguffins. Even Maud has a place, and is a "fracture point" in the politics between the ministries and the Crystal Empire.
