With Pinkie Apple Pie, I started to notice how cute and fun she really is, and she became my favorite when Somepony to Watch Over Me aired. I never cared for any of her episodes before this, but since this adoration started and I began to really think about her character and feelings, her older episodes seem a lot better than before. I guess to really appreciate her episodes, you have to have some empathy for her and try to understand her feelings, because that's what they're usually about instead of clear, exciting conflict.

However I've changed my second favorite pony around quite a few times. Started out with Fluttershy, then to Dash by season 3. Then Sunset Shimmer when RR came out, and finally with season 5 and beyond it's been Rarity.

Long term sunfag and yeah, it's a fucking rough place to be in. I don't know why the writers can't seem to do anything positive with her, but it's an unpleasant feeling when you start to dread her appearing on screen because it's another fucking worfing or something.

At the same time though, I can't help but continue to love her. A lot of it is the implications in the background - how she managed the nation alone for 1,000 years, the emotional turmoil of being split between doing right and having to banish her sister, subtly seems to manipulate others into coming to their own solutions. A lot of it is also the stuff from early on - Lauren's comments about Celestia having a form of foresight and planning 3 steps ahead of everyone else, the stern-but-chill teacher and leader we saw in episodes like The Best Night Ever and Lesson Zero, and so on.

I'm also a S1 sunfag and yeah she's been written into a corner at this point but anyone in her position just has a huge target on their back. Making her actually actively do anything yet still have the hero character be the one that saves the day is nearly impossible.

It's funny how since S2 Luna has no excuses as to why she manages to do even less than Celestia during those crisis moments yet people will still put all the blame squarely on Celestia.

As far as achievements she's got plenty on her belt:
-Taught Twilight and pushed her to meet her eventual friends which in turn allowed Luna to be reformed.
-If the books are to be believed she also taught Cadence.
-If she had not conveniently pushed for Discords release and reformation it's doubtful they could have even located Tirek not to mention they only knew about his escape because of her. And let's not forget that while yeah her plan was monumentally stupid it did end up as a huge victory, the mane 6 got their element powers back and Discord was truly reformed. If they had just beat him up by other means nothing would have changed.

You cannot say that Celestia, while indeed flawed, has not had the most positive impacts on the big events.

Celestia has always been my favorite, but it's more because the concept of her is really cool. A benevolent monarch/diarch who is over 1000 years old who recently was reunited with her sister that she hasn't seen in 1000 years after she had to banish her. This is some grade A character background that has been woefully underused.

I was down with some Flutter Butter in S1-S3, she was adorable.

Then I started liking Dash more in S4, dat characterization tho. Really connected with it.

Ponks never quite got to waifu-tier, but she's consistently been #2 because she's awesome, but Appul has pulled ahead of all of them.

If I found a girl like her, I'd be sold.

I think people are still hung up up on Rarity's behaviour in Season 1-2. Her character has really progressed over the seasons, turning her for one of the worst friends of the mane 6 to one of the best. She has been shown more often to go out of her way to help her friends, and she's become a lot less 'selfish'.

Unfortunately, you could still argue that Rainbow is the worst friend of the mane 6 due to her more recent behaviour.

Eventually though, I grew to love Pinkie Pie.

The thing is, I never really got what what people saw so badly in Rarity in S1 and 2, she's certainly no worse a friend than Rainbow in those seasons, she goes way out of her way for her friends in Suited for Success, she's totally ashamed of her own jealously in Green Isn't Your Color, hell even in Sonic Rainboom before she lets the attention get to her head she's the ONLY ON who notices how uncomfortable Dash is and allows Twilight to test a spell on her out of her desire to help her.

Frankly the only episodes where Rarity seemed mostly selfish were Dragonshy and Sweet and Elite (but she ALSO felt super guilty in that one and ultimately stays true to herself).

While watching the show for the first time, Twilight was the pony I enjoyed most consistently.

Over the course of Season 4 and looking back on earlier seasons, I decided I liked Pinkie Pie the best.

However, I did not find true love until Starlight Glimmer.
