Clever wordplay. Situational irony. Unexpected slapstick. Mostly things that can be covered with, "didn't see that coming." Effort level matters little with these sorts of things on an individual level since it can be hard to predict when someone will be surprised at the punchline. Not the best episode of the season so far but certainly not the worst 6/10 for me. Judging from the sticky it looks like most think "HURR DURR DASHFAGS ON SUICIDE WATCH DASH CAN'T DEAL WITH THE BANTZ EL OH EL!!!!" where as the episode pretty much confirmed what we all know; Dash is an amazing flyer and mare and her self-esteem issues she how she isn't a simple, flat character.

So I think the general Dashfag reaction to the new episode can be divided in to two camps. The "eh it could have been better but wasn't all that bad" camp, and the "it didn't fit my perfect idea, why didn't they suck up to her the moment she joined I'm so betrayed I'll never love her again" camp.
I guess this is where we will see who are truly Dashfags and who ditch her when things get rough.

Not a Dashfag but...No...I was hoping for episode where the wonderbolts give her a teasing name because they are asshats like that. Dash goes and mopes on a cloud until a friend helps her realize that she is awesome all on her own and doesn't need to be told it for it to be true. Dash then ignores the Wonderbolts who get butt flustered that they cant get a response out of her anymore.

Instead we got a mediocre episode that that tried to use Cringe as a screen so people would be too busy wincing to realize how flat the whole thing was.

the nickname brought up bad memories for her, and since she almost never talks about her true feelings, she didn't want Crash to hang over her like it did in the past
the thing is, is that the Wonderbolts never did it out of spite or to bully, like the filly did back at flight camp and RD didn't understand this fact

she tried too hard to change her nickname (in RD's style) by going to extremes like "changing" her personality and creating a dangerous stunt
her impressions of her friends kinda shows us what she thinks of her friends
Pinkie is a ball of energy
AJ is a southern hick
Rarity is a flirting tease
Fluttershy is an apologetic doormat
Twilight is a big book nerd

I was laughing while she was doing her impressions of her friends
the AJ one was the best, reminded me of Rarity trying in Simple ways

I also like the lesson that she doesn't have to try to stand out from the crowd anymore, BUT she still has to work hard and follow a regime to be in the pack she has been trying for so long to get into

you can follow your dreams to fruition, but it may not be what you thought it would be like and don't slack once you have made it

I'm more or less in the same boat as >>27294724 the episode was decent enough and was a long way from the worst of this season. I also think that some people missed the fact that the cringy section was meant to be OTT cring.
I also think a lot of people miss the fact that the wonderbolts are an elite military unit/display team so of course they're not going to mess around and have a hugbox whenever someone's feelings get hurt. Hell was more or less implied at the end of the episode that teasing each other is to be expected, the wonderbolts were also pouring on the praise here and straight up said Dash is a talented flier.

I don't think it sucked. RD has always had to fight to get recognition before, but with the Wonderbolts even if she's technically better she's still only one of several elites. Her hero worship and past struggle made her overreact to some simple rookie hazing and she looked stupid for it. She didn't look like a bumbling idiot to me. Nah, Rarity essentially completed her goal in S5, I don't think it's more a Season long thing, just a gradual thing that we're seeing take place in the show.
The CMC got their Cutie Marks, Dash is a Wonderbolt, Rarity not only owns a shop in Canterlot but also in Manehatten and there's a Movie on the horizon.
It's bittersweet in a sense, I don't ever want to stop seeing these Ponies live their lives but it feels that as they're reaching their goals, we're coming to a close.

Your best bet would probably be to ask someone who does such a thing, ask why they do it.

Traditionally a bump is SUPPOSED to be meaningless, a simple "bump" that will get the thread to the front page, nothing more, nothing less.

I use a Monoprice TWA60 drawing tablet that I got for Christmas a few years back. Just started using it just about a couple of months ago, and I must say, it works pretty darn well for its price.

Not that Anon, but I just got a wacom myself a couple of months ago and am still playing around with it using GIMP. What programs/resources do you use? I can't go back to paper now. All those tools right there at your disposal and any color is just too damn convenient. The fact that I can just resize or pluck and move a body part is far too awesome as well. Makes drawing ponies easy peasy.

Programs/resources? Well, I just use Photoshop CS2 which you can legally get for free. I pirated Photoshop CS6, but I ditched it because it was acting fucky with my tablet drivers. It has everything that I need for digital art, and I don't exactly see a need to find another program.

And I'm pretty much with you on the "I can't go back to paper and pencil" thing. Its been quite a while since I've drawn on pencil and paper, primarily because I want to get used to doing digital art because I've always wanted to become an animator (and you know, most animations now-a-days are done on computers).

Nice. Mine's an Intuos Art. Really cool and I'm having to unlearn a lot of habits I had that supported pencil and paper art, but that hold me back in digital. The fact that I can so easily make a new layer and trace over previous roughs is still alien to me. I have to stop myself from trying to erase and smooth stuff over.
pic related is the only finished pone I've got that I did a couple of months ago for another thread. It's a lot of fun.

Seems I was late to the party, all the episode discussion is over. From what I've seen some very mixed reception.

I thought it was pretty good though, a bit tough to watch at times because I hate seeing my waifu struggle like that, but that just made the ending more satisfying to me.
