Highly unlikely. That bridge has been burnt from both ends. Hasbro couldn't deal with the creative being restive about getting reigned in, and Faust couldn't deal with watching the world and characters she created be turned into something other than what she'd planned for them. Neither party would go for it.

That said, we still get a peek into that world and those characters, which is the only reason we're still on the ride. I really hope this wasn't the peak of her career arc, and she finds the next thing that will blow us all the fuck away. She's not lacking in the inspiration and talent departments, but finding projects that are the right fit and are going to get the right exposure is a total bitch for a creative. I wish her luck.

It's not bleak, but I think for Lauren it was pretty emotional. Her dream job and labor of love became so much of a nightmare that she quit after one season. And it was a hit. That's a lot to deal with.

I've actually been through something similar. And I would consider going back if a second act were offered to me. But I'm nowhere near as sensitive as Lauren. That's her virtue and her vice. The level of attachment she puts in translates to some of the feeling you get from watching it. You can't have one without the other. She's at her best when she feels her work is not just good, but it reflects the values she holds dear and could actually be responsible for some good in the world.

It was interesting, in BABScon, not in the Horsenews interview but the public panel, she said the main reason why she left MLP wasn't about any conflicting vision of the show, but that the workload between distance from the studio, and twice as fast work schedules than what she was used to, among other things became ultimately too demanding for her and she couldn't handle the pressure.

She said the position she had over the production was amazing and holds it something similar to a dream job. She said all she wants in a show production position is to be free to think up whatever she wanted first before she had to face the limitations of budget and official demands so she had room to work around it later on.

It's funny when you think about it, this isn't the fist time she said this and not the first job she "quit" either. I can agree with her on one thing, and that's to have a job in the studio you can work freely, but that's not gonna happen. I don't see how it's so difficult to swallow, anyway, beyond /mlp/'s early speculations getting misremembered as fact. But there's a time-honoured tradition of auteurs and creatives getting overwhelmed by the realities of TV production. It happened more recently to Alex Hirsch, and I remember it happening to Jhonen way back with Invader Zim -- and people thought Jhonen's was due to creative differences, too.

When there actually is a creative split, as it was with Medusa, she's shown that she has no problem putting it on record.

Lauren Faust, if you stumble upon this, I just want to let you know that, as one girl to another, the first two seasons of MLP were incredibly inspiring and empowering to little girls, giving them high-quality content that was fun and tackling issues growing girls deal with, and that I respect you for it.

I also want to say that your work on MLP inspired me to pursue being a screenwriter for TV, and my ultimate dream is to work with you on a show, or even Them's Fightin' Herds, if you ever try to recruit an extra pair of writing eyes and hands.

She's had time to put things in context. Living the dream basically takes your life away from you. Sometimes people hit a breaking point. I've been there. I walked away from what would have looked from the outside as a dream job because the day to day details of it were unbearable. When you're an important but not indispensable part of a giant machine you serve the will of that machine or get the fuck out. Think about being the producer behind the flagship hit on a new network. That's not just a job. You'd get fucking chewed up, and if you don't like it they'll find someone else willing to get chewed up over it. I wish Lauren could still enjoy watching the show because it is really good. I understand it must be hard watching it knowing what your plans for all the characters were and seeing each episode diverge farther and farther from what you had in mind. FiM is pretty average, its not awful but its not a marvel of animation and writing either, the world is interesting, the characters and situations are cute but the writing (specially these days) is very hit or miss, and to be honest i doubt Faust's original plan extended as much as it is today, some of the most memorable characters and locations in this show were made by other writers
