In my opinion they should have given Spike a growth spurt between the events of S5 and S6. Cadance have her entire pregnancy in that time, after all.

My point is that it would have made the relationship between Spike and Ember more legitimate. Their difference in age (or rather size) was really my biggest concern with the new episode.
