Talking about the creature design in 11-5411-54's creatures are actually intentionally designed the wat they are with a couple exceptions.
Creatures labeled with the beginning identifier "AV" are leftovers from a video game that fell through. I made notes from that production cannon early on. Also all AV creatures are actually surviving samples in 11-54 and are unable to respawn via the tubes.
Bioform 13-XX (capybaras) and the flying lobster shaped robots are from a dream I had. This dream also involved an office building overgrown with various bio-luminescent mosses and funguses.
Past these, the remaining creatures in 11-54 have been inspired by 1960's-70's era sci-fi aliens. An example would be something like Fantastic Planet, although I also drew some inspiration from Metroid 2's enemies among other things.
11-54 isn't really a scary quest. Honestly I gave up on maintaining any sense of horror after Spearmint joined the party and killed any sense of isolation. I'm not angry about it though. I still like 11-54 despite it's often schizophrenic tone. It's really been fun to run.

The reason for 4chans anonymous culture is that by specifically downplaying individual identities all posts will only ever be taken at face value.
In any community, certain individuals will develop reputations, both good or ill which will always influence how a post is percieved. it is natural in the human condition to be forgiving of people you identify with and overly critical of people you dislike.
So the advantage of being anonymous is that without the baggage of identity, ALL posts are given the same weight and must be considered equally. that way, if someone fucks up they will not be protected or circlejerked around because of who they are. And if someone with a bad reputation makes a solid quality post, their contribution will not be ignored because of who they are.
This system only works when the majority of people are anonymous, indeed its required that people be anonymous to function properly. If half the board picks up a name, then the sphere of anonymity is ruined.
Finally, all content on 4chan is by the forums nature, temporary. There is just no need for a persistant identity because outside of external archives, your past doesn't follow you. The only real exception to this general rule is the content producer, who takes the name more so that their content is properly branded than that they have an identity. Even they get trouble for straying away from their content with their name on though.

You look like an asshole because you're going against the inherent culture, the thing that separates 4chan from other sites. That's the thing about anonymous posting, you don't need to log in, there's no name behind your posts, your opinions are in effect safe and temporary. There's no judging who someone is based on their name.
