Come one and all to the writing thread and help marginally raise the quality of My Little Pony fanfiction!

ITT: butthurt, replying to obvious bait, use of magic, we're definitely not /lit/, Voicefag's ruskie readings, who doesn't have an impregnation fetish?, people finally updating their fics, "What's the deal with Bleedin's writing?", a sorrowful tale of despair and erections, okay maybe we're juuust a little bit like /lit/ but only a little, they're still worse, learning about mammalian menstruation, Cloudchaser and Stormwalker, daily updating stories that slowly chip away your sanity, eating yogurt without hooves, unironically eating babies, we're nearing two years on the horsewords ride, and holy shit you guys, Bleedin wrote an ok fic.

Tired of the same old 'Human goes to Equestria to fuck his herd of underage horse pussy' formula? Burnt out after reading Regidar's latest polished turd? Well, we've compiled the best of the worst in order to bring you our absolute average:

Fictional research paper on magic. I've got the abstract and introduction done, though I'll probably have to rewrite them once I finish the paper. Currently inventing a new notation to describe spells and the associated equations governing their actions. >>
>>26785219
Might I suggest "Tigers in the Mud" as a book to read too? Pretty good one, and includes plenty of combat documents, from casualty lists to newspaper cuts about the author.

For ranks and organization, that's easy. Platoons, Companies, Battalion, Divisions and finally Armies led by normal soldiers, Captain/Majors, Colonels, Generals. And no, Generals don't go on the field. Colonels are maximum rank on the field.

>>26785932
That's very into command and battle strategy. "Foxtrot company, moving into AO, over". That's a basic command for "F company is going into the area of operations, I finished my communication and am expecting an answer". AOL CISCO WHIHISTY LALAs are just memes spread by pop "Battle Biographies". Just learn the phonetic alphabet, basic radio replies and some abbreviations, and you'll be fine.

And one last thing. War is grey. No black, definitely no white, only grey. What I mean is that war is a complicated matter, where you have brotherhood, honor, psychopaths, war crimes, rapes, murders and good moments all mixing together. No side is completely good or bad, and there isn't any complete glory in war. If you write war as a white and black matter, that's just stupid.

I had an idea for the Superstorm Shared Story.

It's probably not an ideal solution, and it would require a considerable reorganization of the outline, but I think it would also streamline the writing and help with the focus of the story.

Let's have only 8 slightly long chapters for the first stage. Each chapter would focus on the journey of one of the Mane 6, plus the Princesses and Spike.

So, for example, the first chapter would be about Twilight and it would cover all of the time from the moment she hears about the superstorm until just before it hits, but just from her point of view. So we would have her insight of the problem, but not all the pieces. We'd only be able to see the whole picture once we read the other chapters.

I think this could be used as a way to condense the number of chapters in the first stage, and keep each part interesting.

But again, it's just an idea. What do you think?
>>
>>26789219
Art of War says that actual battle is a last ditch effort and you should always try to avoid it, so I don't think it would help him write modern military.
>>
>>26789733
Because it's such an obscure and underrated fic that nobody in this thread has heard about.
>>
>>26789987
Who's writing what right now?
>>
>>26790439
We're still hammering the outline.

Oh, and the other reason I think something like what I proposed could work better is because that way we can avoid conflict of characterization. If someone chooses to write a chapter with AJ on it and then someone else chooses another chapter that features her, the different styles could be a problem, but if someone simply writes the whole chapter that deals with AJ's side of the plot, then that would be avoided.

>>
>>26794416
Honestly I was pretty much sold when I saw the title for the first chapter ("Pony in a Particle Accelerator"). The first couple paragraphs (about the Pattern and shit) just sealed it. I fucking love hard scifi, and this is pretty much the hardest scifi known to fimfiction.

It does start out pretty slow, as I recall. First few chapters are background/worldbuilding kind of stuff (important, given it's a pretty extreme AU). Fusion's "thaumic excursion" is around chapter 5, then a few more chapters before she figures out what actually happened. After that she tries sneakan for a while, then around chapter 20 it starts getting into the "violence and explosions" part of the story.

Book 2 is a lot heavier on the "violence and explosions" front, if that's your thing.
>>
>>26789675
>Time is measured in kiloseconds
For what purpose was this in the story, other than to be a complete annoyance for 5 chapters? Yeah sure, after a while converting became seamless, but it still makes no fucking sense. There are even parts where the author got confused about conversions and messed up.
>>
>>26795088
I liked it cause I'm a turbonerd.

Anyway it's not that hard to keep straight.
> kilosecond: 1 hour = 3600 seconds, so 1 kilosecond is between 15 and 20 minutes (1/4 and 1/3 of an hour)
> gigasecond: 1 year = 3.15e7 seconds, so 1 gigasecond is something like 35 years
The only one I had to think about was megasecond, which is about 2 weeks.
>>
>>26795201
Yeah but it's stupid and has literally no place in the story.
>>
>>26795233
It's a reminder of what sort of world the story's set in. And anyway it's not that hard to do rough conversions.
> kiloseconds = minutes
> megaseconds = days
> gigaseconds = decades
And that's about all the precision you actually need to know what's going on.

In all honesty: Its a world that makes no sense. It makes no motherfucking sense no mater how you look at it.
We measure time based in predictable paterns, like night/day or moon cycles or something. We don't measure them with computer-based systems that require relatively complex machinery (Because lets admit it, even the most basic of timers os pretty damn complex and far beyond what most people understands) because we need to have measuring systems to have said machinery. Having kiloseconds and such assumes that somehow the people of that world invented computers before naming time, which is pretty twisted no mater how you look at it. And how do you program computers that measure time without having some time measure beforehand?
Also, no medium point between day->decade? Where are the years in there? Leaps in measuring scales need to be somewhat progresive, not jumping from unit A which has the given value of 1 to unit B which has the given value of 3650?
I love DoWaS, don't get me wrong, but the time measurement is a masive fuck up in worldbuilding.
>>
>>26795353
>but the time measurement is a masive fuck up in worldbuilding.
i hate it when that happens. worldbuilding is great, but whenever someone decides to try to make up new colors, languages or numbering systems it usually just winds up full retard try hardism.

I shouldnt have to do mental math to figure out it took 3 hours for the group to walk from point A to point B
>>
>>26795258
And also, how is kiloseconds=minutes?
Kilo means thousand, hence kilogram=a thousand grams. A kilosecond should be, speaking roughly, about... a bit above twenty minutes. We are leaping from a second to twenty minutes here.
Then there is megaseconds, and mega is iirc a thousand thousand AKA million, which is about ten days.
So here we have
>Second -> Twenty minutes ->Ten days and a bit ->A fucking decade
Incremental leaps of this kind are fine for digital data because by the time we are using the next scale in a regular basis, we will have masively bigger storage, but for everyday things like, well, fucking time, the better is to have smaller leaps.

I read "Small Scale" today.

----

>Small Scale
https://www.fimfiction.net/story/314797/small-scale
>Drama, Slice of Life
>30,8k words

A female dragon mistakes Spike for an abandoned hatchling. She proceeds to snatch him up and take him to her home to be "properly cared for."

Pros:
-Despite being relatively short, it packs a nice dragon lore.
-The character of the female dragon who takes Spike (Celia) is really well developed, and you can somewhat sympathise with her.
-When realisation hits Celia, you can feel the dread building up in side of her.

Cons:
-This may be just me being jaded, but I felt the big reveals of later chapters were too rushed. Specially the last one, it would have benefitted greatly from a couple of extra paragraphs.

This is probably one of the better fics I've read lately. It's definitely an enjoyable read.
8/10
>>
>>26789987
>until just before it hits
The only problem with this is that it would spoil the story. The reader would know Luna was successful in dealing with the tide, Dash and the Wonderbolts diverted the storm, etc. We could avoid that by intentionally making everyone ignorant of everyone else's plots, but I feel like that kind of breaks the story up and defeats the whole point of making a single story as opposed to a -verse. There's also the problem that Pinkie and Rarity share a subplot, so they'd either get separate ones or their subplot becomes really boring as it's entirely done from one's POV and then the reader has to endure it again from the other's.

It also greatly increases the risk of continuity issues if characters or subplots interact and potentially cause writer friction as one has to follow the "canon" the earlier one wrote for a particular scene.

I can see that, although her overbearing behaviour was the point, as far as I could tell. To show how smothering Celia was so that the reveal of her motives would carry more of an impact.

It was actually much more straightforward, and rather obvious in my opinion.
She lost a child of her own due to ponies, which is why she took Spike away from a pony town.

Here's an updated version of the outline.

I'm really thinking we should scale down the storm. Maybe not have it swing back in and hit Appleoosa, Canterlot, etc. It's already at 24 chapters + interludes, and the thing's not even hit Fillydelphia yet. It'd probably get near 70 if we had it go all the way to Ponyville.

There's also the possibility of actually killing Spike to consider.

>>26798677
I like it, but the only problem is I don't think there's really enough time for her to do much. Currently, the storm takes three days to hit and she'd barely be able to board up a small town's main street in that time.

I was reading something, and noticed than in dialogue there is always a dot at the end of every phrase(["bla bla bla" she said. "bla"] as opposed to ["Bla bla bla" she said "Bla"]). I checked it in a few other stories to make sure it wasn't just a mistake of that particular writer, and it does seem to be a rule.
Was I missing this? Or is it a matter of choice?
Some day I need to pick up an English manual and read it from start to end. I may be able to speak it reasonably well but these little details keep escaping me.

>>
>>26807494
Standard format is
> "Blah blah," she said. "Blah."
when she said two sentences, "Blah blah. Blah."

The less common form

is for when she said one sentence, "Blah blah blah."

It's only in written speech I presume. That's what we do in French, Spanish, Chinese, English, and, I guess, other languages.

>a big letter at the start of every line.

If you mean a capital letter, then that's not something I've seen in prose. You often see it in poetry, though.

If you mean that the letter itself is in a larger font, then many stories do that at the start of chapters for essentially decorative purposes, but I've never seen it done for every individual line.

In either of those cases, I'd say that the use of "big letters" is wrong.

Grammatically, the dialogue is not the end of the sentence, as there's the additional "she said." The punctuation's supposed to go like this:
>"Blah blah blah," she said. "Blah blah blah."
Same with description
>"Blah blah blah," she did something. "Blah Blah blah."
Alternatively, you can flip it around:
>She did something, "Blah blah blah."

It can get really fucking complicated when dialogue gets interrupted by narration, etc. To the point professional editors have written multiple blog posts about the grammar rules.

Is using a dead donor's head to explain crystal overdose in a practical way edgy?
>>
>>26823495
Is there a reason why it has to be the head? And what do you mean by explain?

I mean, IRL we like to show pictures or blackened lungs and stuff to deter people from smoking, and no one thinks of that as edgy, but a severed head is kind of naturally more edgy compared to some random internal organ, so I'd say it's okay only if there is literally no other body part you can use.
>>
>>26823535
Basically the professor using a voluntary donor's head to explain the Factor 10 thing I talked about in the last thread, and how it affects the body.

Since he cranks it up to Factor 11, where the crystal concentration is so great it shreds apart smaller blood vessels, he wants to make the students see what happens, as to deter to-be operatives of cranking it up to 11 as a jack-ass move and killing themselves.
>>
>>26823495

>>
>>26823591
>Just as dark

Darker than the show, but not that dark.

>Factor

Fluorite-Azurite Crystals; Thermomagic Obstruction Reducer. Long word to mean some injected stuff that makes using magic easier.

As the students are to-be agents in some kind of SEALS/Spetsnaz team and are going to use Factor extensively, the professor wants to give them a direct example of how it affects their body, so they don't abuse it under any circumstance and that a jackass doesn't go full blown stupid and get the concentration above suggested levels by showing them what happens.
>>
>>26823591
>make him present it on a slideshow

>professor shows gory pics on slideshow
Happens fairly often in med/bio classes I assume
>professor brings an honest to god severed head to class
Professor would most likely wind up in jail/looney bin

>>26823924
Not to mention
>Health risks of carrying a lump of uncooked meat around
>Ponies are herbivore, so they would probably frown on it more strongly than we do
>>
>>26823924
It's not just any school, the students are going to use the substance mentioned when they'll be in operations. The teacher wants to show them what really happens so no one goes stupid and overuse Factor.

>>26824066
>Health risks
Magic.

>Herbivores
The head is from a consenting donor. Think of it like a dissection. Even my old sports teacher had a course in which they were manipulating a corpse to see how the muscles and other tissues where.
>>
>>26824083
Look, you are seriously missunderstanding the importance of the head in all cultures. Showing students a severed head is lawsuit material. For a quick and dirty list of problems,
>Dead eyes staring right at you
>Protein rots EXTREMELY fast and invariably has a sickening smell, so you'd have to cut it and have it in exhibition within one hour to not be in risk of pandemics
>Try to explain shit with flies swarming uppon the head
>People kinda dislikes the idea of decapitation, even post mortem
>Have to cut someone's fucking head, which could keep a psychologist eating for a few decades
>You'd have to keep the head from leaking
There is a HUGE diference between random musculature and easily recognizable extremities, especially heads. Hell, you could even have a fake head or a photo. Usually no one but medicine students ever see something like this.
>>
>>26824157
What would you suggest then? Would using a full body be more "ethical"?

I've thought about using small animals, but since the product has no effect on anything not using magic, it would be pretty useless to show its power.

I thought that just a picture presentation wouldn't be as strong of a deterrent as an actual practical experiment. You have to keep in mind the fic's universe is at about 1910 for technology.

No, having a "deep impact on students" is a stupid idea to begin with.
Instead, make it have a big impact on the reader. First, describe the corpse's head rapidly decomposing in as much detail as you possibly can, and then in the next paragraph talk about how everyone reacted to it. Overplay it, overdramatize it, but don't go too far. As long as the reader THINKS it was disgusting, you don't need to actually make the event itself too disgusting.

Why would a head be used to explain an overdose? It'd be like showing a severed arm with needle marks to show heroin. It doesn't seem like it'd be very effective or make much sense.

Now a specific organ? Sure. Although I'd say the most effective way to show it is someone who's still alive, but suffering the debilitating effects of it. That anti-smoking ad of the guy singing with his electrolarynx is a lot more impactful and raw than just showing a severed neck with a hole in it.

>>26823560
>professor
How many heads do they go through a semester just for an object lesson? I really doubt the Ministry of Science/Health/Education would be okay with rare body tissue being destroyed just to show someone what not to do.

>live example
>magical holograms of actual victims
In my opinion, two much better alternatives.

Also remember that the more detail you give, the closer to the Mature - Gore tags you're going to get. And I really don't think the infamy associated with those tags is worth it for one scene of a severed head exploding. Hence why holograms or someone still living are much better alternatives.

Is there any good way to make an expo dump without some flashback things? The subject being explained being already very familiar to the characters
>>
>>26835641

If you can introduce a character who's unfamiliar with the relevant info, having someone bring them up to speed would be the best way.

You could add a short scene, set off with weak breaks from the rest of the story, that explains the info via omniscient narrator. This works best for comedies- Hitchhiker's Guide does it frequently- and less well in serious stories, though it's still doable.

If you're writing in first person, the narrator can tell the reader something that "they" might not know.

Or, if none of those work, your best bet is probably to parcel out the information in bits and pieces rather than in one giant infodump.
>>
>>26835641
if its common knowledge in world then dont expo dump. just treat shit like its absolutely common and not worthy of commenting on, maybe dropping minor hints in dialog.

>barbecue, noun: a flat metal frame that is used to cook food over hot coals or an open fire
Pretty sure the second guy's actually right, in that he is using a barbecue to cook the hot dogs. He is not, however, barbecuing (to roast or broil on a rack or revolving spit over or before a source of heat) the hot dogs, but boiling them.

>>26835641
Do it slowly. That's part of why the expodump is a thing--it's dumping all the information at once. Let it trickle out like a leaky faucet.

How it's trickled out depends on what's being explained to the reader. For instance, a new city/location could be revealed through characters idly talking about their next vacation and their plans for it.

A new character can be plopped in and spend several chapters getting to know the reader.

And who's to say you have to explain anything? You can always let the reader figure things out over the course of the story (characters reminisce about the subject, a location is revealed as part of a plot point that sheds some light on the subject, etc.). Just make sure you've actually given enough information throughout the story to tie it together.

The real reason for the Changeling invasion:
http://www.fimfiction.net/story/321200/where-is-it

(Cute bit of humor fluff.)

You've got me thinking about the ways you could run with a "what was REALLY happening" scenario.
Changelings invaded to recover a particular person.
Changelings invaded to recover a particular person who was unaware they were a changeling.
Changelings invaded as part of a very large operation to distract Equestria's attention from something else.
Changelings invaded as a result of perceived Equestrian aggression.
Changelings invaded after Chrysalis was mind-controlled by an unknown entity.
Etc. etc.
>>
>>26839781
>Changelings invaded to recover a particular person.
>Changelings invaded to recover a particular person who was unaware they were a changeling.
Based Amaryllis.
though I prefer when this is also paired with starvation anyway. I'm a huge slut for twilight being a changeling. Sadly I have yet to run into anything quite like the characterization quality offered by I chrysalis and changeling heart. pretty much all of these stories have their issues but I value characterization supremely, and those two had the most believable chrysalis.

>Changelings invaded as a result of perceived Equestrian aggression.
This is pretty interesting, though the most I got with thought experimenting was jealousy over equestria's standards of living for their people. thats not really "Aggression"

>Changelings invaded after Chrysalis was mind-controlled by an unknown entity.
This is possible I guess but I feel like it flies in the face of the context a bit, which seems to be that people/that guy is tired of chrysalis being secretly innocent of wrong doing. I personally prefer her as tight roping the line between antivillain and antihero. A more pure idea is that some third party could be strong arming the changelings. "I had never seen such a place rich with love before" or some such chryssy said. Makes you wonder where they came from and why they left?

'I, chrysalis' actually uses that one for its what's really happening scenario.

As for distraction, thats another idea but what would they want the distraction for? changelings already are invisible to equestrian society by that point, so what would they stand to gain by revealing themselves?

Magic space antimater ninjas, Niezchain chicks who can make 27 digit multiplications in her head, magic moonlight rays, Dyllan evolving from a casanova with some taste to literally fucking everything with a vagina that enters the ship (Including a chick with brain damage from lack of oxigen), MAGIC INVISIBLE ASSASINS (That don't actually exist, what a twist), ghosts in a sci fi setting, Tyr goes evil because LOL NIEZCHIAN and then goes good again because LOL I ACTUALLY LIKE YOU, needless romance, total destruction of past characterization.
I'd say more but I honest to god had to jump over half the episodes out of how bad they were. There was a single good episode, about a future-predicting chick trying to get an outcome that didn't involve her and all of her friends dying, and that's it.

>>Yeah, it sure sounds like they're invading out of desperation and not a desire for power and conquest brought on by Chrysalis' delusions since she was a child.
Maybe you missed the part where they said they feed off of love then you fucking idiot.
Gee I wonder what kind of life style chrysalis has had to live that gave her delusions of grandeur when she's already a fucking queen.
>>
>>26848417
I know this'll break headcanons and people will kill me, but no one never stated that changelings can't feed of other things. Very feew creatures can eat a single thing.

>>26848335
>Chrysalis is evil and wanted to conquer?
that falls under option B- changelings are just assholes
>>
>>26848424
It's likely a very essential part of their diet, they have teeth and mouths so I suspect they do eat other things. Given the sharpness, I also suspect they eat meat in addition to love. Ultimately though, I'm not suggesting chrysalis didn't want the perks of ruling Equestria. But imagine for a moment that you are given opulence with your station of living as a queen, and a neighboring "queen/princess" basically runs your farm for you better than you could, to the point where you are dumbstruck. If you have essentially unlimited access, and your specialty is in manipulating others, you would not try to openly subvert the government.

On the other hand, if you have minimal access, and due to having to wander away from wherever you were, little personal wealth, why wouldn't you try to conquer it? Despite the fact that they are at war and attempting to conquer another country, they have basically no weaponry and almost no armor. Equestria has armored guards everywhere. It's pretty clear, no matter what personality you ascribe to chrysalis and her people, evil or no, that they are undoubtedly less well off than Equestria. They've never seen so much food before, to say nothing of eating it, a place like Equestria is beyond their experience. Where-ever they ate before, was likely far less able to yield food.

It's also worth mentioning that people rarely use expressions like that when they are referring to the technicality, It's real meaning is more than a greater than mathematical expression, but one that expresses astonishment at the scale of that difference. whether you want to believe chrysalis is a softee or a bitch, ignoring this stuff is pretty much ignoring what chrysalis is supposed to represent; someone competent enough to subvert the crown from a country she has barely seen much of before.

They're all the same to say different things.

Présent is for current action (I drive a car)

Passé Composé is in the past, used for recent events/narration. Some kind of replacement for present. (I have driven the car into Anon's anus)

Imparfait is for something you did before but aren't doing now, and you did the thing recently (I drove)

Plus-que-parfait is like imparfait, but for stuff you did longer before. (I had driven)

Passé simple is for old stuff (years). No real equivalent in English.

Passé antérieur, I don't even know.

Futur simple is for stuff you'll do in the future.
(I will drive)

Futur antérieur is for a projection in the future (In 2 years, I will have driven 2000 kilometers).

Conditionel présent is for supposition in the present (If I drive)

Conditionel passé is for supposing on stuff happened before (Had I driven)

Subjonctif présent is for necessity. No real equivalent, but it amounts to (I have to drive)

Subjonctif passé is Sbj. Présent in the past (I had to drive), but a long time ago.

Subjonctif imparfait is for the recent stuff, no equivalent. Same for subjonctif plus-que-parfait.

Impératif is for orders, in present (Drive) and past (no equivalent in English)

Infinitif is for the raw verb (To drive for present, no equivalent in English for past.)

Participe présent is "Driving" and Passé is "Having drived".

Not so complicated, Polanon.

most of that time that same shit you're complaining about is added onto a different part of your sentance in order to tell the difference.

won't, will not, a thing is refused to be done.
isn't. a thing is not something
can't a thing is unable to

a thing would not be willing to
couldn't a think would not be able to
wasn't a thing was unable to
a thing did not in the past.

What was the purpose of kidnapping Twilight, mind controlling Shining, sequestrating Cadence and invading Canterlot then?

They could have gone in a small hole in the middle of nowhere and moved over when there was no love if that's what they wanted, instead of striking and invading a capital. What love do you think there would be in the aftermath? There would only be fear and hatred, but no love.

For them maybe, but that doesn't matter to them, what matters is the love between ponies, and that's honestly not hard to cultivate. first of all, ponies aren't going to just stop loving each other because they got conquered. second, looking at the way things are, theres no way theyre going to run out of love in the aftermath, even if love does decrease

>>
>>26865019
I find it extremely hard to believe that it would cause enough to be a major problem for the changelings rule (especially when you compare to conventional unrest being a factor for non changelings anyway)

And as before, Chrysalis managed to infiltrate the highest level of equestrian society. We have to assume that she's not an idiot and would know that had her plan succeeded, it would have at least born fruit to some extent, maybe there would have been problems that they couldn't have forseen to knock them back down, but starving because of a lack of love after an overnight coup seems pretty far fetched, especially when it was so bloodless.

the only other alternative if you don't accept that, is that pony government is canonically stupid and only functions through dumb luck, and in that case chrysalis couldn't be even be blamed for trying to subvert it, it's a catastrophe waiting to happen.
>>
>>26865676
>the only other alternative if you don't accept that, is that pony government is canonically stupid and only functions through dumb luck, and in that case chrysalis couldn't be even be blamed for trying to subvert it, it's a catastrophe waiting to happen.

Idea for a fic. Celestia knew centuries of bureaucracy had led to a fragile and ineffective system of government, so she contacted Chrysalis to concoct a fake invasion to Canterlot that would force severe reforms.

Cadence and Luna were in on it, as well. That's why Luna didn't appear during the whole two-parter, and that's why Chrysalis didn't dispose of Cadence, but merely "locked her away".

That would also explain why she trapped Twilight right next to Cadence. Having them escape was all part of the plan.

Celestia was aware that sacrifices needed to be made, that why she allowed herself to be captured and cocooned. And for all the mayhem, chaos, and property damage the changelings caused, they aren't shown causing explicit harm to ponies.

I guess what I'm saying is...

The changeling invasion was an inside job.

You are searching far too much depth in what is ultimately a kid's show.
If we were talking about, I dunno, Gravity Falls or Steven Universe, then yeah I'd argue with you because those shows have a depth that is worth diving into.
But this is MLP. If a character isn't humanoid (Equinoid?), chances of said character receiving any kind of depth or development are pretty much null.
>>

no, that's what you are doing. I've already adjusted things for it being a kids show. as I already stated there:
>>26865676
and since you don't seem to see that, you are the one who doesn't get it. Equestrian backstory has been shoddy in the past and will be in the present and future, but one thing that has always always been consistent was the portrayal of emotion draining creatures as being not to be bargained with but to be driven out or killed. It's not reading to much into it, it's 3 for 3. maybe even 4 if I missed one or something. Equestria, a prey nation, doesn't like being fed off of, go figure. That's not complicated, and neither is changelings needing food.
>>
>>26870012
Dude, do you even realize just how fucking terrifying would something like that be?
Its easy to be calm and detached when you are in fact detached from the reality being portrayed, but the idea of creatures that can warp your mind, that can steal your very emotions to the point of leaving a trained soldier nearly dead from exhaustion, that could potencially incite wars by merely singing, that can freeze entire nations by feeding on said emotions, that can replace anyone you love without you ever noticing, is the stuff of nightmares. Its the kind of creature that you have a very much valid excuse to kill on sight, even if it may be unjustified.
Is a living, walking biological weapon of the worst sort.
>>

That's actually how NH is explaining Harmony's creation, minus the "Celestia did S2 finale"
>>
>>26870012
>emotion draining creatures as being not to be bargained with but to be driven out or killed

Well, I'd do that for any creature that freezes a whole continent, invades my capital, grievously injure my beloved leader, impersonates and kidnaps the princess of love on her wedding, mind controls the royal guard's top ranking officer and kidnapping his sister, be they feeding on emotions or not.

If feeding on emotions was all they wanted, fine, let them do so. You can't just let a whole species starve because of that. If, however, they don't only feed on emotion, but try to hurt you, your family, your loved ones and your home country, I'm definitely not letting them do that. Them feeding on emotions isn't what's bad, them destroying you and others is.
>>
>>26870044
>>do you even realize how terrifying
of course I do, unlike this retard >>26870525
that doesn't change the fact that they have needs to live. I'm glad you also understand the fears the ponies have, as it's just one more reason the changelings knew peace through discussion was a futile gesture in all likelyhood.

>>26870525
>>you can't just let a whole species starve becuse of that.
no, actually, you can, and the ponies have a history of doing so. the prey is not required to let the predators feed from it.
>>
>>26870725
The changelings fully justified the fear people has of them. The retribution is their fault.
>>26870525
As the other anon said, when someone acts like a predator and tries to kill you, you are fully justified to act like prey and defend yourself, ideally killing the predator to reduce the chances of being killed.
>>
>>26870782
>when someone acts like a predator and tries to kill you, you are fully justified to act like prey and defend yourself,

no, they wouldn't have, because they are predators, thats already been made very fucking clear, with facts, and evidence. all you have been doing is shit posting your "nuh uhs" everywhere, with nothing to show for it but your mistaken belief that friendship is magic means they don't have prejudice.

You can fault the changelings for being what they are, but that just makes you a hypocrite. What the changelings did didn't even cause any major casualties. Compared to us, we don't have a right to exist under your logic, and they would be well justified in driving us extinct, as we are far more likely to betray and kill.

It's fine if you think that, but it puts it to a pretty clear perspective what kind of otherworldly morality you're holding chrysalis up against. She is a far better ruler than even some of the best of ours in terms of her ethics.

So The Right Thing To Do would've been to just let the changelings invade them?
No. If someone acts like a predator, that someone should be ready to be killed in the process. LAWS OF NATURE work both ways.
>>
>>26877500
I didn't say they don't. this isn't about whether or not there should have been self defense, this has always been about whether or not changelings are just being assholes or if they have needs that they are trying to meet by their action, don't forget that.
>>
>>26877532
We are carnivores, if only partly. Does it mean it's acceptable to eat each other?
I mean, for god's sake, we haven't ever found any other sapient species and there is already a stigma about eating sapients. A sapient species should act in a minimaly civilized manner if they don't want to be treated like animals.
>>
>>26877565
>>26877565
>We are carnivores, if only partly. Does it mean it's acceptable to eat each other?
you're adorable, if anything, it would be great if we ate eachother, no, we just kill eachother, for no real reason other than greed and differences in race or religion or lifestyle. See cannibalism may be awful, but at least it feeds you, humans just mass produce death because we're so greedy that it's simply expected that the only way theres ever going to be peace is if everyone is too afraid to fight. Even then it really doesn't fully work, it just keeps shit from happening now the way it did 80 years ago.

No I think ponies would be fine with us eating meat, but they'd probably have something more poignantly against us to say about the way we farm animals. They'd be horrified at the way we treat horses, ironically we don't even eat them, and horse ethics have been better for a long time since they stopped being useful in war. Doesn't change that most of their lives are nightmares anyway.
>>
>>26877680
How old are you?
If you are still in the "Hurr Durr Humans are Evil!!111!!" stage, you are probably too young for the site.
And honestly, I don't even know what is that you are arguing about. You just monologue about Evil Humans to no end without any aim I can see.

>They wouldn't have because they are predators

Their way of feeding barely fatigues their prey instead of killing them, so no. They are not lethal predators not to be reasoned with.

>With nothing to show

If by nothing, you mean examples from the show and arguments, then yes, I do have nothing to show.

>She is a far better ruler than even some of the best of ours in terms of her ethics.

This has to be bait.

>durrr i dont like that the ponies would have every reason to hate us because my waifu so ur like 11!
yeah you're retarded. what I am is honest with myself and humanities faults. don't worry, I am fully aware you and anyone else will have this retarded knee-jerk response to anything that doesn't fellate and exalt our species as the one true master of the universe.

as for the meaning of my post, I already told you what I was arguing, you're trying to make the argument that humans don't eat sapient species, with the implication that changelings, who eat from sapient species, are of worse moral character. What I am explaining, is that that's retarded, because humans have a long list of crimes that surpasses simply feeding off of sapient creatures.
>>

we already went over how this is wrong, try reading it and addressing it if you actually want to keep sperging out over the truth.
>I do have nothing.
then you lose by default.
>this has to be bait.
It's the truth. Humans are prone to hero worship, which is retarded, and conveniently forget that their greatest rulers where all people, many of them with such faults to be absolutely condemnable. but hey, moral relativism is a thing, so maybe you just have values I can't even begin to understand. either way, it doesn't matter, you don't have anything to back up your arguments, so it's time to stop posting.

all I've done was reply with logic and evidence for how they are wrong. blaming one party just shows your own obvious bias in that arguement.

>It's the truth

Okay, so a leader who is willing to kidnap two innocent ponies, grievously injure a beloved leader and launch a full scale invasion on the country's capital to feed off their love is better than Celestia and our current leaders?

Seriously, stop.

Roosevelt, if you are trying to describe him, worked tirelessly to start a war with japan.
unless you meant teddy, in which case he was an intensely racist and chouvanistic person for his own culture and racial values. he thought anyone who didn't dress and speak as he did was an inferior person for all his social charm. teddy also hoped for war, waiting baitedly for any chance. he believes that war with the lesser races is the most just kind of war, and is entirely unavoidable.

I ask again: What are you arguing about?
That we are fucked up as an species? Well helloo, get anough people and some of them will be fucked up. Especially when compared to the utopic world depicted by a children's cartoon. And there was a certain war of three tribes, you know. I am sure they went a little bit beyond throwing pies at each other. Things like treatening each other with famine? yeah.
Honestly, I won't answer to you anymore. You are just too edgy for your own good.

What do you think of all the worldbuilding we got from the premiere?
>The Crystalling
>There has never been a born alicorn before Flurry Heart, which means Celestia and Luna somehow earned their alicornhood
>Alicorn magic officially confirmed to be more powerful than unicorn magic
>A baby alicorn has MUCH more powerful magic outbursts than a baby unicorn
>A baby alicorn's crying produces strong soundwaves capable of shattering crystals
>To repair a broken magic artifact, you not only need to glue it back together, you also have to perform a ritual specific to the artifact itself

Also Spike shown to be both goofy and intelligent, and some Starlight character development, which is great.

>>26877978
Do you even watch the show? Pony babies have been shown before to have powerful magic outbursts and be really good at flying, until they grow up and stop doing those things.
Not to mention at the end they "curb the little one's power fluctuations", as Sunburst said.
