They DID look fun. How many games did we see? Two?

Ice Archery was what caused the problems in the final act. And there was the one that Spike tried to sing the anthem for after. Oh, that was the one Dash and Fluttershy competed in. So the aerial relay race.

Two games. They had years to think about this and they came up with one interesting idea.

I would have at least liked to see some ponies doing a sprinting competition or something. Maybe something in the background to acknowledge that we're missing seeing all the games because Spike felt like shit and moped around.

I didn't like Princess Spike much at all but it was better than Equestria Games. Princess Spike had fun background characters, sleepy Twilight, a decent ending, etc.

Equestria Games was the show's advertisement actively lying to us and getting us hyped for some Olympics-themed episode only to pull a switcheroo and have it about Spike fucking up and how to feel better about fucking up.

They didn't hype it up, but they brought it up in multiple episodes.

Imagine if Seaon 1 ended with an episode blatantly called "The Grand Galloping Gala" instead of "The Best Night Ever" AND instead of focusing on the mane 6 the entire episode was about Spike being sad he got dumped by his friends and after a few failed attempts to get involved at the party ending up moping at Ponut Joe's for the rest of the 22 minutes before his friends showed up and told him about how they destroyed the place.

Also there was plenty of advertisement for the Equestria Games. They kept tying it in with the Olympics. But when the episode got closer, no, none of the previews were about the games themselves.
