She was motherly in Cutie Map, manipulative, egotistical, and had a bad temper.

All of that sans the Motherly act got carried over into Cutie Remark but she also became really sarcastic and really enjoyed outwitting Twilight.

She was really cool until her backstory revealed her entire ideology was based on a single, not very traumatic event from her early childhood. She's still cool though, finally putting Twilight in her place

I thought the backstory finally gave her proper motivation for being the bitch she was. Before she just believed in the equal cutie mark ideology for no reason, but the idea that your friends getting their cutie marks before you is a hurtful experience is both realistic and show-supported.

Think about it. From that moment on she must have poured all of her heart into learning magic of all types, fueled by her hatred and hurt. It explains how she was able to be so powerful in magic as to stand up to a babby alicorn. It was pretty well done in my opinion.

Then, she snooped around, figured out how to do something that even Twilight thought was impossible (the time travel spell) and put it to use.

The other villains were only "dangerous" because they were born with some crazy power. The only exceptions being Sunset and Trixie, who still had to steal a magic dingus.
Glimmer succeeded where the others failed, and she did it using her own, mortal talents.
