I'm a bit confused over this scene.

This scene can't be from the time when Discord first emerged (and thus would not have ever been defeated by the Elements of Harmony) because the Mane6 didn't even exist by that point yet, so this must be from his second emergence.

But that means that this was after Nightmare Moon escaped from the moon, and if Starlight's interference made sure the Mane6 never met the way they were supposed to, they could not have been there to stop Nightmare Moon. Thus, Luna should not be in this scene. She should at the very least rule Equestria as Nightmare Moon in this specific timeline. That would likely also mean that Celestia could not be there either.

The only possible way for this scene to occur is if Discord somehow made Nightmare Moon into Luna, saved Princess Celestia from whatever fate befell her at her defeat of Nightmare Moon, and made them both his personal clowns. But does that really have anything to do with the Mane6 when it's gone that far?

That's what Twilight was talking about at the ending - it wasn't necessarily that the mane 6 had to be the heroes. But, the more damage was done to the timeline, the more friendship weakened, and less likely heroes were to rise at all no matter who they were.

Nightmare Moon world seemed pretty comfy.

Other than moving the capital and acting scary she didn't really seem like an irresponsible ruler. I'd like to see how the rest of the world looked under her rule. Plus she was literally right in that she did to her sister exactly what was done to her. NMM did nothing wrong.

What I don't get is how in every alternate timeline one threat succeeded but something stopped all the other threats. Like in the Sombra world, who stopped Nightmare Moon? Why didn't whoever it was stop her in the Nightmare Moon world? Same for all the others.

Time for some headcanon.

Even though the rainboom was stopped, each timeline was different and Twilight was sent back by the spell to see the effects. The only one we didn't see return was Starlight. What if it was a one way trip for her, leaving her stranded in the past. It is possible she continued to meddle in the past which is what caused the dramatic changes for each timeline. Then something happened which prevented her from meeting with Twilight again. In the one timeline she wasn't left behind in and went with Twilight, everything was pretty much dead. Without her to meddle anymore in the past, everything somehow went to shit.

Alright guys, I'm going to try and solve the timeline paradox once and for all, but I'll have to unleash my autism to do it. Brace yourselves.

In the Changelings timeline, Zecora is able to detect that Twilight and Spike are not just from another timeline, but THE CORRECT timeline. This means that in this time travel scenario, the original show timeline continues to exist despite the parallel timelines Starlight creates. This means that every alternate timeline is essentially a splinter in space-time (or a wormhole in the multiverse, whatever).

Starlight could have modified the time travel spell in such a way that Twilight and Spike are automatically sent forward in the newest splinter timeline, while Starlight is sent to whatever other point in the original timeline she's chosen (probably the present).

Since Starlight enjoys watching Twilight struggle to correct the past, she has set herself up to be sent back to the same point in time whenever Twilight goes back in time so that she can thwart her or gloat. In the meantime, she can do whatever she wants in the original timeline because in her view, the original timeline doesn't matter and will not exist soon.

However, Starlight is NOT trapped forever jumping back and forth in time whenever Twilight uses the spell. As she shows at the end, she was planning to destroy the spell when she felt the time was right. She wanted to see Twilight break and give in to despair, then destroy the only means of fixing the timeline in order to prevent any return to the original timeline. This might not destroy the original timeline, but it would basically seal it off for Twilight, Spike and Starlight, making the current splinter timeline the only possible reality for them.

So basically Starlight wasn't seeing the alternate timelines because she was returning herself to the "original" timeline. Twilight just disrupted this cycle by grabbing Starlight when she was pulled into the portal meant for her.
