It has been some time I last watched Igloo. But for what I remember the main cast didn't seem to be the kind that would still be fighting as remnants after the OYW.

Well 0083 is the only remake worth anyone's time right now so it's not like it matters either way.

What I would be interested by is if ZZ had a manga remake done in a similar style to Rebellion, quite who would be worthwhile bringing back for that from any of the sidestories I don't know. Oliver or Shin maybe?

You're actually right, most of the 603rd were only fighting for their country rather than ideology and Apocalypse 0079 ends with the Jotunheim heading for Side 3 after successfully covering the retreat of Zeon's forces. The only character in the 603rd we know who would have kept fighting after the war was Kuspen, and he opted to go out in a blaze of glory by sacrificing himself to save on Oggo pilot at A Baoa Qu.

Plus this craps on all the character development May went through since he started as an idealistic greenhorn and transformed into a cynical veteran over the course of the war after seeing how all the weapons he had to test were either never going to be used, or designed to just halt the endless onslaught of the Federation. The only way I can see him joining Axis and not moving to Republic of Zeon, would be that he saw he was honoring the pilots who gave their lives to test the machines he was evaluating by keeping up the fight. Cadillac is an even more prickly situation because we know she still has family at Side 3.

This cameo was clearly done under the lines of 'wouldn't it be cool if?' and didn't take into account the characters and their backgrounds.
