Gundam with pulp sci-fi aesthetics when?
>>15843500
You know a lot of those design choices were done out of laziness and insincerity. Tube robots became a thing because the artists didn't give a shit about drawing cool mechanical things.
>>15843517
Who cares it looks cool, fool
>>15843521
Do you really think that robot looks cool? I'm having a hard time believing you. What do you like about It? It feels like the artist gave up halfway.
>>15843530
Because it's simple, different, and looks like the artist gave up halfway

Millenial/10
>>15843500
Love it when pulp sci-fi is used to shake up an old franchise. Look at the marvel Limited Series Space Punisher.
>>15843549
>>15843500
Close enough.
>>15843549
Prophet seemed to used Pulp to that effect as hell.
>>15843536
I was born in 1983. If I'm a millennial then so are you.
>>15843568
What is this
>>15843625
>I was born in 1983
You said it on the internet so it must be true.
>>15843549
Space Punisher was a fun limited series. Wished he showed up in Secret Wars
>>15843644
What a sad little man you must be.

>>15843556
Is that a DOOM reference?
>>15843517
Tube robots like Mazinger and Getter look far better than most other mecha designs. Also, you base that on what, outside of your shit taste?
>>15843530
it's outside the angular motifs that are exploited commonly today.
so , it's cool.
>>15843556
>is doom a nazi reference?
WE HAVE TO GO DEEPER.
>>15843521
>>15843838
You can have tubes with proper joints. A lot of old designs suffer from this, even MSG and it only changed with Zeta due to Nagano's armored knight influence. It's an aesthetic halfway between the amorphous metal can man and the arrangement of hydraulics and motors.
Early mecha was very much like Ironman where you're just supposed to believe metal can bend like cloth, and clearly that wasn't popular as all new mecha took after Nagano's direction.
>>15843884
Your point is, shitposter? The worst tube robot still looks better than whatever trash you like.
>>15843901
People like you are why modern art is a success. Nothing but lazy rubbish by boorish minds who don't want to put in any work, so they toss some cans together and call it man, figuratively or literally.
>>15843912
>he says when all the designs he likes are at least as trash as the ones he shits on
>>15843500
That's basically 0079 to an extent.
>>15843912
>bringing modern art into this
We're talking about fucking robots found in kid's cartoons.
Grow the fuck up or learn to enjoy your escapist entertainment for what it is
>>15843644
/m/'s generally one of the oldest board on 4chan, that's not a crazy statement here.
I think I should have given Char a more ridiculous hat.
>>15844461
I mean, it's pretty ridiculous as is.
Amuro and Sayla's pose looks like something straight off the cover of Astonishing Tales. Good work.
>>15843919
It's kunda funny you're so eager to say this despite the fact that neither of us have stated what we think looks good. We could be mechwarrior, warhammer or anime fans as far as you know.
>>15844461
Pure gold.
>>15843517
>Tube robots became a thing because the artists didn't give a shit about drawing cool mechanical things.
Wrong, it was because back then they didn't have elaborate stop motion or CGI models and had to fashion outfits for actors to play as robots.
Mecha design as we know it today a whole grew out of the concept of a man wearing some kind of metal and rubber suit.
>>15844640
We're talking about pulp art here.
>>15844668
>Day the Earth Stood Still
>not pulp
Please re-educate yourself.
>>15844671
You might also want to point out that the movie was based on a story that appeared in Astounding in 1940. It's pretty difficult to have a more prestigious pulp pedigree.
>>15844640
>a man wearing some kind of metal and rubber suit.
Damn, I guess that's where Okawara got his inspiration from for the MSG designs.
>>15843500
When it's not the 21st century anymore
>>15844640
Early toku was guys in suits and their mechs look3d fine, great even. Better than stuff that exists now
>>15844640
Man, Gort is so fucking cool.
>>15844461
damn son make more please
