I wanna watch some modern hand-drawn mecha action and found this

If you want the main machine job in every fight and get replaced for half of the show with an unexciting tiny version with only a pew-pew pistol against barebones villains then go for it.

I honestly remember absolutely nothing from this show except that my only motivation to watch it was that Hana is really hot. It's weird I'm usually good at remembering pointless shit from anime but this show is just a complete blank.

I liked the idea of launching mech into space like a rocket, but it really only should have repeated the launch a few times throughout the series. The way they did it reminded me too much of star driver.

The characters are pretty likeable and its has some really nice battles, but like most have said the plot drags a bit near the end and it wastes good plot points.

I enjoyed it, but the ending is weak.

Worked reasonably hard to flesh out each villain-of-the-week, some had very different motivations, but ultimately did nothing with this.

It's a decent watch but it's problem is that it has enough antagonistic forces for three seasons crammed into a 13 episode show.

Just watch for stupid cute Hana and her ultra sexy form at the end.

The story issues are that there's a bunch of neat plot points that are brought up but never really explored, and one that gets more prominence than it needs and isn't that interesting. The mechs and the main thrust of the plot are fine, if a bit underutilized. Also the characters are pretty fun and there's a feeling of stubborn optimism that they push that I found refreshing.

The mecha action is fine, but totals maybe 1 ep of runtime, and more than half of that is the small version doing Earth things.

They also royally fucked up by having 4 main characters, and 3 Engines and a spaceship, and then assigning 2 of those to Hana. They didn't even pass the Flare engine to Akari, I guess the pilot suit would have gotten in the way of her belly button sluttery.

E7 is a character driven scifi adventure story with romance and is largely inspired by the counter culture movement in the 60's and takes inspiration from the original Mobile Suit Gundam and Vifam. Rahxephon is a character study that uses music as a plot point both symbolically and narratively that's inspired by Angel's Egg and Evangelion.

Why does Bones fuck up every show with cool designs they try to make? Instead of trying to make all the weird movies and AO they could make a short scaled down series with 12 eps and make it more along the lines of Fooly Cooly. Also make a short OAV of Xamd explaining what was going on before the show started. In Xamd had they reduced the number of characters like those in the mail ship I think it couldve been a better show.

Nah I'd say lackluster but slow comes second only because it was lackluster.

That said E7 and FLCL are pretty different shows but E7 having crazy surfing mecha action would've been pretty cool if it was a short series and that way it can cover a coming of age story pretty easily with the right storyboards.

Bones, for reasons I cannot explain, has no idea how to write an ending. Its like they get to the last two episodes of any show they make, and some guy at the back of the writing room immediately stands up and locks the doors.

The room pauses. The tensions in the air grows thick.

Slowly, the man begins to turn around.

"Alternate dimensions," he says, just low enough to be hard to hear, but just loud enough for them to tell what he is saying. "Or Time Travel."

And then again, louder.

"Alternate Dimensions or Time Travel."

Again and again. Screaming.

"NO ONE LEAVES THIS ROOM UNTIL I GET ALTERNATE DIMENSIONS OR TIME TRAVEL!"

Fearing for their lives, the writers pick the one they think they can work with and make it central to the ending, despite not being set up or hinted at before now.

Then, and only then, they are free to go.
