It's more that I really like the way dark magical girls collide with heroines. It makes for cool personal and internal conflicts that don't require the entire world to be in danger to be interesting. I want to see Hibiki literally fist hope into her edgy counterpart, or the Miku equivalent, followed by bonding of some sort and happysad tears.

Seems like a lot of characters really care about the curse of balal or some weird alchemy thing and I guess I don't really care about that shit. Apparently they need someone with common sense and someone willing to eat missiles to the face. Maria is the one that managed to cheer up Chris in the prologue. In prologue Hibiki fainted after she trained with Chris and at first Chris thought that was her fault but then Elfnein said it's just Hibiki that hadn't been sleeping right for past few days. Still, Chris felt bad and was super hesitant of fighting other geahs during training. Maria picked a fight with her and then Chris blast her off. Chris was worried that she hurt Maria but Maria just shrugged it off and said that she's perfectly okay. Maria intentionally received Chris's missiles just so she could teach Chris that she did not hurt Hibiki in the slightest.

Even as far as AXZ she still has hang ups and is still somewhat mopey. Helping someone feeling mopey is completely out of character for her, she didn't even cheer DMJii up in AXZ, the last time she even demonstrated anything close to this sort of skillset was in her GX episode.
Tsubasa is the one who took Chris to have a heart-to-heart in a family restaurant and arranged for her to make peace with Sonya and Stephan. She is a great senpai and has demonstrated way better skills at this sort of thing than Maria so far.
I guess you could say it was a chance to develop her relationship with Chris, but god dammit, this has been every event storyline so far.

But they're pretty close. Germain is the team leader, Maria, and is following a guy for the debatable utility he brings to the table. That Adam guy is a douche on par with Ver, using and manipulating them to achieve his own ends. Meanwhile, Prelati and Cag are filling in for Shirabe and Kirika, with Prelati openly speaking out against the doctor and Cag avoiding the issue. There are differences like Cag resolving to do something about this earlier than at the end of the season, yeah, but you've got to admit that they're pretty similar in motivation, tone, and role. If not for the more episodic feel, the arcs would've probably been stretched to fit closer to the G structure.
