Go full Xabungle- ridiculous attachments.

Give the mecha the equivalent of Moon Shoes. Cheap, easily replaced foot attachments that raise the robot's foot high enough off the ground to void or lessen explosive damage.

If you're afraid of minefields destroying the shoes completely, simply make the shoes mine plows instead of moon shoes, and have the robot drag its feet around the minefield in question. Bam, done.

Alternatively just TOBE.
>>
>>15830112

>>
>>15831924
Seriously this. What does a mecha have to fear about IEDs? They're devastating to vehicles because a vehicle's vital parts are all so close to the ground whereas a robots most important bits are all above the thigh. Just give it better shoes and send a few sweeper drones in ahead and you're set. Heightlets, when will they learn?
>>
>>15831974
Obviously explosive devices designed to wreck mecha won't be the same as your typical IED. Especially if it were designed by an enemy army and not just guerrillas.
>>
>>15831974
If it does enough damage to the legs it can cause the mech to fall which may injure or kill it's crew. If the mech has many legs that are far enough apart it may be able to restabilize itself though.
Also mechs are still just as vulnerable to efps.
>>
>>15831974
IED's aren't dollar store firecrackers, buddy. It won't matter if your mech has its vitals a few feet higher than a normal vehicle, its still gonna be damaged beyond repair.

Lol, what are any of you even trying to say? Especially with that last image, the blast radius is no more than 5 meters or so, and your typical mecha is at least 10 meters, if not taller. Just give it some cheap meshy layered platform shoes and it would be able to dance by any IED.

Do none of you know why IEDs are so deadly in recent wars? Half the time it's because they are placed along routes that are so well traveled that there's bound to be a vehicle that will pass by eventually. Mecha won't be travelling along roads for the most part, unless they're on a vehicle, being carried.
>>

>>
>>15832347
There's no reason why damage to a leg should cause the mech to explode like massive blood loss kills a human, even if the limb itself is still functional.

This is a fucking robot. It's metal. We can put the important or unimportant bits where we want. We can make shit more or less robust as needed. If mines are a problem, we make the legs resistant to mines, either passively (through putting non-essential shit there, using crumple zones or blast-deflecting slopes) or actively (bullshit magnetic bwoo-bwoo-bwoos whenever you step that blows up mines nearby or whatever the fuck).
>>
>>15832359
The fucking CONCRETE is still in massive chunks. You're overestimating the damage it does to a giant death robot's superalloy leg.
>>
>>15830112

Same way you protect tanks against IEDs

Don't deploy them in theatres where they're used.

For real, if you're fighting an enemy that seriously uses IEDs, you're fighting an enemy where heavy armor is over kill.
>>
>>15832363
why don't you just make the tank out of superalloy? that why you won't have to waste time and money on creating entirely new logistical lines and training programs,
>>
>>15832379
I mean, tanks already mostly ignore IEDs, it was lighter vehicles that had a big problem with them. Then we slapped MRAP on them and put some extra underarmor on actual tanks and the problem was solved.

Because the superalloy structure of your tank is fine, but the fleshbags inside just got turned into jelly. Thankfully, your mecha pilot is 30 feet in the air slamming dramamine so he doesn't barf from his cockpit sway.
>>
>>15832360
what kind of retardation is this lmao
a mecha is useless if its legs are beyond fucked up, this is known as a mobility kill, because you've essentially killed the target by immobilizing it. and yes, if a blast can toss an MRAP like a tonka toy, it will render your legs beyond fucked up.

Nah, they still buried/hidden IEDs a bunch
In Mosul, they had dozens of booby traps for every street in the last sectors which is part of the reason why it took so long to clear. Once IS completely loses ground and is forced back into a hidden insurgent role, there will be more mine-like IED attacks again
>>
>>15832360
You're such a moron. That explosive would end a robot. The leg would be so damaged that you would need to replace it. Wow, your tin man can't move. Game over. Hundreds of millions down the drain.

And another thing, your retarded robot can be taken down by any muslim with a rocket launcher.
>>
>>15830112
Ground penetrating radar.

Speaking of which, why aren't they standard equipment for vehicles in IED prevalent zones?

Mount one on the vanguard vehicle in a convoy or any vehicle that has to drive outside safe routes. No IED can touch them.

>>
>>15832426
>implying the soldiers have any say in this
It's the military which refuses to spend the cash on protecting people from this stuff. We could armor the shit out of everything and just throw enough gas everywhere to make it work, but we don't, because it's more expensive than a few dead soldiers.

Remember how we sent everyone into those fucking urban warzones without actual armor and their goddamn relatives had to buy them AR plates and mail them to Dirtghanistan? The military looks at "mine-foiling ground-penetrating radar for every truck" and says, eh, is this going to cost more than training another five guys? Yes? Fuck it.
