Why do so many artists fuck up the GX's Satellite Cannon pose? Model kits and concept art have existed for ages, there's no excuse for messing this up on a god damn promotional poster.

And since I'm sure someone's going to ask, the Satellite Cannon is mounted in the middle of the X on the back. It isn't physically possible for it go over the shoulder without moving the entire array up to the shoulder as well.

All the proof that you need confirming that X is shit.

That's what the DX did and that's all people care about

Deal with it

blaming the series for the artists fault?

>>15824254
because they also fucked it up in the original series?

The scene in the prologue where the GXs shoot down space colonies is literally the only time in the entire show where the Satellite Cannon sequence is properly animated.

If you want to be really charitable there's also a scene very early on (the one where Garrod uses the SC as a way to move fast IIRC) where the reflectors are at least unfolded over the shoulders properly, but they didn't animate them opening, they just cut to it already being prepared to fire.

Given how both the DX and later the GX Maoh greatly simplified the sequence, the only assumption I can make is that it was just too complicated for the animators to bother with. Which is not a particularly satisfying answer, I know, but it is what it is.

something that bugs me is how because that scene in episode 2 is The Iconic Satellite Cannon Moment, basically anytime you see the GX in games like SRW or G Gen the animators try to imitate that scene.

it was really stupid in SRW Z, where the MAP animation correctly positioned the reflectors but the in-battle cutscenes refused to because they wanted to be """accurate""".

I understand that symmetry is appealing, but how can you justify actively screwing up a design to achieve it?

The point of that poster is to show the GX with the Satellite Cannon prepped to fire because that is its most eye-catching feature. The placement of the reflectors shouldn't have any effect on that, and if anything having it be up by the shoulder ought to draw more attention as it presents a more unique silhouette.

As is, the poster looks like the artist just didn't care.
>>
>>15825115
Animation is more important than the model kit though. If the animation shows the main X used throughout the show firing with a symmetrical X, that becomes its main image, not what was planned by the designers.

ding ding ding

X bombed in Japan so hard that it took this long for it to get BDs announced. the artist looks like they don't care because they really don't; look at the promotional art other gundam BDs got, and then look at X's "two floating heads and an off-model gundam standing there".

maybe you don't think that's fair, but tough luck. G gundam had to deal with this bullshit too; all the other BDs got katoki putting his A game on the covers, we got fucking okawara.
>>
>>15825118
The scene where the GX properly fires the SC is flashbacked to so many times in the show is may as well be the main image.

Like seriously, this post >>15824717 isn't wrong, but you have to realize the GX gets converted to the Divider very quickly. Probably because the animators couldn't be bothered, actually.
>>
>>15825126
and just for comparison, here's the poster for G's BDs.

I'm gonna assume it's a stylistic choice. The correct way to show the X from up front with the Sattelite Cannon deployed has the X-shaped panels offcenter, like the MG's boxart. Symmetry is more appealing for many people.

In addition, the Sattelite Cannon can swivel 360 degrees. OP image isn't as bad as >>15824687 or >>15824725, which has the cannon not originating from the center of the X and/or the Gundam X turning itself straight at the target when firing while still aiming over the shoulder.

Lastly I want to say just how amazing Gundam X's design is. I fucking love how the sattelite array doubles as a propulsion system, and how the rear of the barrel holds the X's beam saber hilt.
>>
>>15825868
The poster has the cannon being pointed forwards as well. The only way that pose could work is if if there was inexplicable a hinge on the back end of the cannon.
>>
>>15825892
There... is? >>15824263
>>
>>15825885
Technically the panels are just wings, the thrust comes from the slim backpack thruster vents on the body.
>>
>>15825885
Definitely one of my top 5 along DX. Okawara fucking nailed it.

>>15824263

you are totally right

that gundam show you produced/directed is clearly much better

oh wait.....
>>
>>15826100
There isn't. The only thing the SC can do on the GX's backpack is spin around, it's the reflectors that are capable of turning.

And by hinge, I don't mean a movable arm. I mean an actual, full on hinge like the Destiny's foldable weapons. If that existed you could just twist the cannon 45 degrees to the right and then bend the front part forwards to roughly get that pose.

But it doesn't exist.

When is the release date for the BDs? It's a good excuse for me to re-watch the series.

>>15825885
I agree it is a fantastic design both in terms of aesthetics and functionality. I like how it perfectly blends the standard capabilities we expect from the gundam lead with its own gimmicks.
