The flat racing was the best part of the episode, but overall the episode was not bead. For Shirabe.
Tsubasa continues doing nothing. By itself, that wouldn't be that bad: Maria didn't do anything in Chris's episode either, but Maria had gotten plenty before this.
Why they didn't make Tsubasa have the talk with Shirabe instead of random temple guy is incomprehensible to me.

Probably my favorite episode this season.
But what an extremely uneven season this is. I can't help but feel that Kaneko told us a half-truth in regards to the scripts being finished before he got hospitalized. But still, it's still reassuring whenever I am reminded they still know how to handle these characters besides falling in the same old plotpoints over and over again.
Some complaints.

Kaneko did not say the scripts were finished before he got hospitalized. He said the outline was finished. The only scripts that were fully complete were episodes 1, 2 and 3. The rest were written by a team of other writers using his outline as a base. He then went back and rewrote parts to make it consistent with his style.

I am the Aoifag so my favorite is Bikki. Shirabe is probably my favorite from FIS though.(not saying much, I know)

Things I liked this episode is secondary characters such as Ogawa getting some spotlight, Shirabe's drama not entirely revolving about how gay she is for Kirika, Shirabe interacting with someone outside of FIS to solve her issues, the 5DS battle...
Just in general things I have been waiting for this show since after G. Last episode also had a bit of things going but less so.(Maria was just...there and barely interacted with Chris. From their very brief interactions I liked how Chris seemed to bring out Maria's inner smug)

Genuinely curious about what will they do with Bikki and Kirika. Hope they deliver.

On, and Tsubasa drawing those parallels with Kanade was also quite nice.

For those curious, the other episodes I consider strong are 1 and 2. Which are just big-action setpieces/retreading old ground for most of the part.(and are a set-up for something that gets dropped awkwardly and in an anti-climatic way when the the alchemist fuck-off two minutes into episode 3 and the action moves back to Tokyo)
Then there are some individual scenes I enjoyed like Bikki talking with Miku about her problems, or Shirabe and Kirika using Unison. Anything with Maria/FIS's drama eating enormous chunks of screen-time I hated and will probably skip on rewatches.

Tsubasa was present as a somewhat stern mentor figure for Shirabe. You know, the thing Tsubasa is know to do? We call her senpai after all.

Out of the whole cast Shirabe and Kirika need development/expansion the most. Desperately so. Outside of being really gay for each other and feeling sorry about G they have almost nothing going on for the. Most of the time hey feel like secondary characters that can use relics and sing.

I am sorry for Tsubasa friends because yes, it looks like she got the shaft this season. I can see that but at the same time I agree with the writers priority on this episode.

Hibiki has two upcoming moments, her duet with Kirika and the Hanasaku Yuki scene that will probably round-up her sub-plot with St. Germain. No idea how they will handle both but if they decide to focus on Kirika in a satisfactory way I wouldn't really mind.(so long as they deliver)
