I have to admit, looking at all the recent shitty Hollywood rehashes lately (such as >>15805154), I've gained a lot more respect for the Bayformers as designs. While their aesthetic has become the norm for most mechanical designs in Hollywood nowadays, when they first came out, there was nothing quite like them. They moved away from the bland stereotypical heroic proportions usually associated with humanoid mecha and turned the designs into something truly alien. And unlike the older cartoons, these designs actually looked like alien robots that could morph their bodies into any mechanical object. Yes, most fans hated them, but remember that most of these fans are the ones that only accept something closely resembling what they saw in their childhood. For all of Bay's and the film's faults, the original designs was not one of them.
they look like shit

The designs are shit and make it literally impossible to comprehend what's going on in action sequences.
>>15806521
When the designs aren't caricatures of human stereotypes, they're fantastic.

Blame Bay for being a shitty action director. Try watching Pearl Harbor and making sense of anything during the bombing.
>>15806521
No, the designs are still shit.

Bay is a great action director. The designs don't lend themselves to his style because hectic action mixed with drab greys and exposed joints makes it hard to understand who is who.

Heres a short video essay so even plebs like you can understand.

>guy who popularized MTV-style quick-cutting and shaky cam in Hollywood
>a good action director
Go watch Pacific Rim or Real Steel and shut the fuck up wanker.

I've generally always liked them. I'm still iffy on the designs that are meant to convey a certain cartoonish aesthetic like Crosshairs, Jetfire, and the infamous Twins from T2.

The less human the designs are the better they look
One of the few aesthetics that I enjoyed from the films were the weapons integrated in their arms. It was perfected in WFC and Prime really well.

edges everywhere
>>15806521
They're still incomprehensible nonsense.

This was a good call, though.
