3.33's entire plot could have been avoided had anyone bothered to sit Shinji down and explain to him what the fuck was going on instead of treating him like human garbage despite the fact that they encouraged him to take the actions that led to that future. I suppose someone's going to say that there's supposed to be some message about how everyone is childish and hasn't grown up and all the misfortune they experience is because of that but the truth is that it's just bad writing when you can tear down the entire plot that easily.
