I'm curious and /m/ is my last hope, why do some shows slap in a "versus" in the title whenever they do a crossover? I've watched Shin Getter Robo vs Neo Getter Robo and Great Mazinger vs Getter Robo and it ended up like that. Looked at the Mazinger Z vs Devilman trailer just now and it seems they team up as well.

Because that's what it means.

Nip kids want to see their favorite hero racing each other, not working with each other.
There is no honor when ganging on some individual.
When you ask "how does sentai or a team of 5 works?" they always count that as 1.

I'm a fucking retard and I forgot a whole sentence.
What I meant was, why do they slap in a "versus" when in the end they team up with each other and beat whatever foe they are faced with, rather than actually fighting each other.

it sounds cool that's pretty much it

Every time you see VS. in a Japanese work just think x instead. Like Mazinger Z x Devilman, or Neo Getter Robo x Shin Getter Robo instead of versus. It'll stop your brain from getting excited.

>stop your brain from getting excited
>not getting excited from cool things
Cuck.

But the actual word they always use is "tai" which, literally translated, usually means "fights," does it not?
>>
>>15785330
It would be a cool thing if they actually fought, instead of them teaming up to fight a generic disposable bad guy
>>
>>15786260
I was under the impression that 'tai' was something to do with coming together, like in sentai (squadron/war team) or gattai (combine)

Tai has two meanings. It can mean battle but it also can mean something along the lines of standing on equal footing. It can be taken in a battle sense or in a cooperational sense, it's dependent on context which meaning is being used which is pretty much how Japanese works.

This is why Gattai (come together) and Sentai (task force) use the more positive meaning rather than indicating battle.

Different kanji

合体 = gattai
戦隊 = sentai
対 = tai (versus)

They're both cool, cuck.
