Just wondering, I've just found out that the Harlock manga was a seinen. Does this mean that the anime was aimed at adults? Just watched it recently and it rather seemed like a kid/young teen show to me. Was the adaptation just changed to fit a younger audience?

Seinen would be close to the western Young Adult, if I'm not mistaken, rather than adults

shounen vs seinen makes little difference when dealing with /m/-core titles
Ideon of all things was marketed as a kids' show and it had guro in the first episode.

I haven't seen the nime, but Harlock ang the gang do go around torching random Mazone with flamethrowers a few times in the manga.
Anyway Shounen and Seinen are pretty loose terms. There quite a few Seinen shows/manga that are just shounenshit with more gore n' tits and there's also Shonen stuff that deals with mature and complex themes some times.

B-but that's what makes it for mature adults like me
