hello /m/
i havent been here in about 4 years... but i have something i want to share with you.

it was a slow dull few months 7 years ago on my military deployment, we had nothing going on and i was absolutely obsessed with a handheld game called Super Robot Taisen Original generation 2. i had loved it since i played the first game and still wish america had more games in the series. anyway, i had access to the internet for a while and decided to order online some of the last existing models from the series. they dont make these anymore.

well suddenly my ass and everyone else is off doing Operation Dragon Strike, and into a tough box these models go, no time to build them. wild month. after the crazyness died down i just wasnt motivated anymore. they have sat in this toughbox for 7 years thereabout. still waiting to be put together.

i put 2 together before shit hit the fan, but i fucked them up badly. as a result id like /m/ to partake in this long process with me. and maybe we can discuss some good Mecha games while we are at it? i got a hankering.

will take votes on which one goes first too
>>
>>15774002
What like a plamo build livestream or something?
>>
Welcome back.

On the games front, Vanquish?
>>
>>15774040
i was thinking more like pictures. i can livestream if you want i guess.

>>15774041
sounds familiar. leme go look that up.
I only have prior gen consoles and i mostly game via PC. so.

oh and while we are at it, its REALLY hard to find good /m/ech anime that i can actually get my hands on.... i watch anime while i run on a low impact treadmill. subs are no longer a problem. im currently on harmony gold's Robotech series since thats all i have access to on Netflix.
>>
>>15774041
i checked it out. im more into Armored core slow plodding gameplay. Vanquish seems a touch too fast paced for me.

ive been playing a hella lot of Galactic Junk League recently. no good mecha games, but a Spaceship fighting arena game was an acceptable substitute.
>>
>>15774002
Welcome back, those are some neat kits. Maybe start with the PT? As a "grunt" unit there's less stress to get it right and you can probably give it a bit of a custom paint job - that's something /m/ would have fun suggesting
>>
>>15774149
sounds good. going with the green Gespenst MkII then first.

pretty sure they got the idea for that from Palatbor.
>>
augh. opened one of my old kits and its damaged.

can one fix plastic damage on models?
>>
>>15776722
What kind of damage?
If a piece snapped you can just use plastic cement to put it back together.
>>
>>15776775
>>15776775
hey thanks. looked it over, seems like the parts mostly fell off. though theres a lot of damage where twisted bits off instead of removing the parts via scissors.
>>
>>15777231
>scissors
Please buy a pair of nippers
>>
Have a read through /m/ and /toy/'s plastic model guide before you start. Gives you a good idea on what tools and such you need to get a decent result at the end, scissors are a no go.

If you're afraid of messing up, it might be a good idea to grab some cheap Gundams from amazon or something and get to grips with what you're doing with them. Most modern Gunpla is easier to put together than the SRW Kotobukiya kits you've got so you'll have a better learning curve.

Can i undo damage like this?
>>
>>15777299
Yes. Use a model knife to carve off the nub, fill the hole with putty and sand down using 1000+grit sand paper. Then put to one side so when you get round to painting them after some practice, you can cover up the mark perfectly.

Also GET SOME SPRUE CUTTERS.
>>
just did further reading. Nubs. any way to fix nubs after taking them out of the runner/tree?

taking /m/ advice, getting sprue cutters and reading more before continuing.
>>
>>15777326
Check out the model guides for more details, but the basic principle is this.

1. Clip the pieces of the sprue, making sure to leave a little of it on the piece to avoid stress marks.
2. Taking a model knife, gently trim away the nub until flush.
3. Sand with 1000+ grit wet/dry sandpaper until flat.

>>15777280 After you finish the gespenst or what it is you're working on now, you might want to follow >>15777295 's advice and pick up one of the ten dollar 1/144s that Bandai sells for practice.

>>15777345
For a casual watch, I'd recommend basically any of the subbed robot shows from the 70s to 80s (Daitarn, Zambot, Jeeg, Gundam, Dougram, VOTOMS, Layzner, Vifam, etc) and past that I would try Braves ("Yusha") series and Fafner. In terms of what's on netflix, I believe they currently have Voltron and Sidonia Knights

Hey will these be acceptable? Xacto knife and a food cutting board
>>
>>15778140
They'll do; a rubber model cutting board would be better though as it's softer, so it'll prevent pieces flying off.

Also wait until you have everything before starting. Model making is all about patience. Don't rush.
>>
>>15778234
heading out tomorrow to get modeling glue from one of the guides that you guys got me. need some quality sandpaper to do some damage control to the Guarlion. turns out i was working on the Granzon to. dear god that ones damaged to. im quite upset, that one is my favorite.

thanks a ton for all the help! really quite nice of you guys.
>>
>>15778257
No worries. It may be best to, as others said, pick up a cheap kit first to practice this on. Otherwise, just take your time, be patient, follow the guide and make sure you have everything in place first before working on things.

Cant do much more damage then i already did
>>
>>15779657
It doesn't look too bad actually, just needs some paint, but it doesn't look like there are any glaring issues with the model.

I'd recommend priming and painting the weaponry first - it's usually what I do, because weapons are almost always one contiguous piece, with a detailed surface but a simple overall shape, and small enough that nothing will be wasted if you mess up and decide to start over.

crazy story duder,i too greatly enjoyed the GBA OG games and played the hell out of em.

If possible could i perhaps purchase the two gespensts? they are the last two i need for my gespy kit collection.

its a shame ps2 romhacks arent really a thing or we could maybe have gotten OGs and OGG fan-translated or something.

kotobukiya really should do at least occasional reprints of their SRW kits.
>>
>>15779932
under normal conditions id help you out, but these are incredibly rare.. i may end up not having space for them, or may not even finish them, how bout this, ill keep you in mind?

Kotobkiya really needs to put these damn things in reprint. they are so rare, you cant even find a generation 1 Grungust anymore, and that one was my favorite.
>>
>>15779966
i know they are rare,so i understand wanting to hang onto them, just keeping me in mind is more than enough, best of luck on your model building journey
>>
>>15779977
>>15779977
would you accept them if they where fully assembled already? i can save them for last. im probably moving in a few months, i wont have space for anything possibly.

truth be told, part of this is "moving on for me" my life is kinda in shambles right now and i need to retreat to happier times and memories. this is also sort of "finishing unfinished business". theres a lot going on internally right now. im hoping it helps me get sorted.
>>
>>15780006
I certainly would accept them assembled, would prolly cut down on shipping too that way
>>
>>15780035
i saved your contact info, ill probably shove it on ebay for bidding though, however competition probs doesnt exist, ill give you a heads up beforehand.
