Well the month is finally here. Don't know the day though.
What are our expectations?
Quick rundown for anyone who is just arriving:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVJTGLL2SnI

Newest demo for MKIII: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePINYZK4p5Y
>>
Decent discussion of a few behind the scenes things in this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXnsiGddjwo
Most important bits from it, in my opinion, are that there may not be a live audience in attendance, and that the actual event may not even be live-streamed. So it is a concern that when the final fight does happen, it will be somewhat edited to make it look cooler. Like that one anime about playing Basketball with Mechs.
>>
>>15747923
>there may not be a live audience in attendance, and that the actual event may not even be live-streamed

Isn't it kind of late in the game for the word "may" to even be in the discussion? Unless they slipped their date again, this feels like shit that should already be decided less than a month out.
>>
>>15748017
Judging from how the panelists say it, they just don't know the full details.
>>
>>15748017
They don't want Celestial Being to attack the prototype.
>>
Honestly I don't expect much of a fight per se.
What I do expect is sort of what that 3rd video showed: An obstacle course / shooting gallery, with maybe a fight after. An interesting afternoon of viewing to be sure, but not something that will meet the hype. Which is fine of course. I just want to be entertained.

As long as it's on top top sure. Megabot should be disqualified for not having a sufficiently cool name though.

>like, actually destroy it.
I feel like this whole thing has gone wrong at some point
>inb4 LOL I WANT BLOOD AND DEATH YOUR MUCH PUSSY TO DIE IN REAL LIFE FIGHT THAT WE WILL FORGET AFTER A COUPLE MONTHS

And then it was delayed a month.

>be passionate about giant robots
>want to make Battletech real
>try to fulfill your dream and get together with some friends to cobble together a robot from a tractor and other parts
>try to crowdfund to gather interest in battling robots as a sport
>crowdfunding spectacularly fails
>has an idea
>makes a new crowdfunding campaign but with extra jingoistic rhetoric and issues a challenge to a Japanese guy who says he wants to make giant robots real
>Japanese guy accepts
>use funds to make better functioning robot, comparatively speaking to your first
>Chinese company builds a robot and challenges both of you
>[DESIRE TO FIGHT WITH ROBOTS INTENSIFIES]
Honestly, I think the fight itself will be pretty tame. Kuratas and MKIII both have paintball guns. Maybe we'll get a punch or two in it but I doubt the chainsaw or other contact weapons the Megabots guys made will be used at all.
>>
>>15748550
>And then it was delayed a month.
source?

as for the rest of your post:
That's why I think it will be more of an obstacle course type thing. I can't see either team wanting to sacrifice their very expensive mechs.

We gotta pass through Mech Warrior aesthetic before we get to Gundam.

>Kuratas is stylish as shit, sure, but I get a boner from rust bucket mecha.

Kuratas is a rust bucket, anon.
The guy who made it made it in his own time, learning hyrdraulics and electronics as he went.
The thing is assembled using a shitty lifting crane bought cheap off of Ebay.
The guy who made it is a simple smith, not some top university attending, top of the line machinery using god of mechanical engineering.

It has nothing to do with technology, it's all about aesthetics. The people doing Medabots are simply head over heels for Mad Max. Mad Max cars are cool as fuck but it wouldn't make sense to claim we first needed o pass through a Mad Max phase before we started doing modern cars.

Aesthetics and technology have very little in common. Like, you can stuff an old PC into a pro-gamur 360 degree super case or cram several GTX1080s into a vintage case, or a steampunk case, or whatever.

Same here. If the Gundam guys succeed in making it move at 1:1 scale, any realistically looking humanoid mechs could be doable, regardless of what they look like aesthetically.

well shit.

>>15750689
Good points. I do honestly like them both though.
I'll admit the Megabot is more, "We turned construction vehicles into a mech" type aesthetic, which I'm fine with. Whatever gets the mech to move the way it's supposed to is fine by me. So in keeping with the car analogy, I think Actual construction equipment is the Model T of mecha, and we are currently moving into the generation after that, where people are able to experiment with aesthetics.

I really, really want this to do well enough that people throw a lot of money at both of them and grow interest in the whole thing.
>>
>>15750765
In some twisted state of boredom at work, I had a hell of an idea for a mech control scheme involving the pilot at the center of gravity in a harness, and all of their limbs being completely hooked up to an exoskeleton with encoders that could translate their movements to the mech. The idea would be to use a human's natural sense of balance to balance the mech. I'm just bummed that I'll most likely never afford to be able to make a prototype properly for many years without putting a decent place to live or kit cars on the back burner.
>>
>>15753487
>The idea would be to use a human's natural sense of balance to balance the mech.

That's not how it works at all.
All of your balance organs are located in the upper half of your head.
It can't balance stuff if you're but a tiny bit above the center of gravity with a ton of stuff on top.

I don't even care that they won't go all out on eachother. As long as they can make it entertaining to watch them do some stuff it'd already be an accomplished mission to me.
It would be even cooler if it could become some G Gundam tournament in the near future but that seems to be a little too optimistic right now.
>>
We haven't seen anything new on the Kuratas since what, 2 years?

They've shown nothing, but they did say they were improving it, by the time the challenge vid came out.
I really, really want to see what a team with a man who started the project with pure passion can do.
Especially compared to Megabots who've been constantly publicizing and showing their iterations, and with sponsor and kickstarter backing to boot.
>>
>>15760956
I hope they just show up with an actual Scopedog.

It's a single guy doing it all in his spare time. JAPANESE SPARE TIME (that's like what, 2 hours a week). Give him a break.

Its going to be trash. Theyll pussy out and stop the fight if someone gets close to getting scratched.

That said, any more knowledgeable anons want to fill a moron like me in on how long before we start seeing faster and more combat ready mecha that could make an entertaining sport or viable war machine? Will I live to be able to enlist in the militarys mech division?
>>
>>15762157
>Its going to be trash. Theyll pussy out and stop the fight if someone gets close to getting scratched.

I feel like it's going to be way lamer than that. No one is going to come close to getting scratched. They're going to just plop paint balls at each other for a while then have one staged melee attack for effect.

And no there's nothing a military mecha could do that wouldn't be done better, less complex and cheaper than a tank because we don't live in an anime.
>>
>>15762157
>mecha that could make an entertaining sport
Probably never, if you imagine real-life robot sports to be in anime. With airsoft, paintball, and other wargames you're not actively destroying your own gear during every single engagement, and no one wants to deal with the fallout of players dying in a sport, so a giant robot fighting sport would need to be flashy, non-lethal, and have some sort of damage system that balances pilot skill with equipment used. And then you'd need some form infrastructure to keep the everything (robots, equipment, arenas, and so on) maintained, which means you're going to need a lot of money going into this sport.

>viable war machine
Powered armor looks promising. Scopedog-sized robots and larger are going to get fucked by physics, more practical weapon platforms, and the air force.

>>15762193
I'm afraid this is the closest to the truth.

It'd be perfect had they made the legs wider. It also has too much exposed wiring, it needs more armor.
