What is the advantage of using an RX-79[G] Gundam Ground Type over the RGM-79[G] GM Ground Type? Do they have different reactors? It looks like the gundam has the chest vulcan, multi launcher, and a slightly higher output on the reactor. How do the 2 heads affect performance? Is the ground GM using the same armor? Why did they do away with the back pack option for the ground GM? Cause it looks like the main difference is the ground gundam is made up of rejected gundam parts and they made 20 ish where as the ground GM was made on the same assembly line using all new parts and had 50+ built.

How does the ground GM compare to the standard GM and why was it chosen to standardize on the standard GM over the ground GM?

You look like a gundam so you get 300% more screentime.

>What is the advantage of using an RX-79[G] Gundam Ground Type over the RGM-79[G] GM Ground Type?
There is none, other than slight equipment and performance differences that barely matter. The Ground Gundam can carry an equipment container for extended long range missions.

>Do they have different reactors?
Yes. Their reactor outputs are different, and the Ground Gundam has a single cooling vent as opposed to nearly all other Feddy suits that have twin cooling vents.

>How do the 2 heads affect performance?
The head contains sensors. You seem to have already looked up the specs, but I'll mention it anyway. The Ground GM has a sensor range of 6000 metres. The Ground Gundam has a sensor range of 5900 metres.

>Is the ground GM using the same armor?
Yes. They're both armored with luna titanium, and share the same basic layout.

>Why did they do away with the back pack option for the ground GM?
Who knows why. Maybe it's a matter of cost. Maybe they didn't think the Ground GM needed it, seeing as no other mobile suit bothers to carry a backpack container.

>Cause it looks like the main difference is the ground gundam is made up of rejected gundam parts and they made 20 ish where as the ground GM was made on the same assembly line using all new parts and had 50+ built.
Yep.

>How does the ground GM compare to the standard GM and why was it chosen to standardize on the standard GM over the ground GM?
The Ground GM is less versatile (but probably more durable) than the standard GM, and was likely used for testing the waters and collecting data for the eventual rollout of the standard GM. The regular old GM was already in planning for quite a long time, the rollout of the Ground GM was nothing more than a stopgap design to use in battle and to collect operating data.

So when they replace Karen's Gundam's head they are more or less upgrading her Gundam?
>>
>>15747305
Sure, if you consider a 1.7% boost in sensor range to be an upgrade. I'm sure that in actual usage it's a very tiny difference. While it can be said that 100 metres is a sizable difference even for a mobile suit, I kind of doubt that the sensors could detect things very clearly at the extreme range limit anyway.

Wasn't the ground Gundam just a way to make use of leftover useful RX-78 prototyping parts that couldn't otherwise be used with existing designs? Not so much a good MS, as 20 or so extra MS for the cost of some armor and electrical tape?

It doesn't really explain why they have a bunch of beam rifles right after they were JUST invented on Side 7 though. Retcons are a bitch.

They don't really start using beam rifles until episode 6. I haven't seen the show in a while, but I know in the Norris fight only Karen has a beam rifle

Yep.

Beam rifles weren't invented on Side 7. The only thing Side 7 was used for was a secret base for the Guntank, Guncannon, and Gundam suits for space use testing. Prior to that, The Federation had already built earlier Guntanks, Guncannons, and Gundams at Jaburo for testing in ground combat on Earth. Those Gundams and Guncannons would have already had beam rifles.

>The Gundam is designed as a fast, close-combat mobile suit and is the first to feature several new technologies, including the energy cap-based beam rifle (making the Gundam the first mobile suit to pack the firepower of a battleship) and beam saber. Once the initial design is approved, development proceeds to the second stage, and three RX-78-2 Gundam units begin construction and testing at the Side 7 research colony.

>What is the advantage?
It's cooler and more intimidating, that's all matter.
