Is it safe to assume that this is /m/'s favorite Gundam show?

You guys are patricians right?
>>
Thats not Zeta...
>>
>>15746239
/m/ does not agree on anything my friend.
>>
>>15746239
I GOT A BURNIN HEART
>>
Kou is a good pilot for a boring earth normie, detractors are jealous and/or Monsha
>>
>>15746239
I believe you will find that Mobile Suit Gundam is the patrician choice.
>>
>>15746239
If Gato was the protagonist, it would have been GOAT, however we're forced to follow Kou, and his nasty cunt.
>>
>>15746261

You cant prove it

excuse me sir but that is not SHINING FINGER

>>
>>15746239
Kou is giving a worried look to that 0081 because he's painfully aware it's a better OVA than the one he's in.
>>
Naw senpai
>>
It has good art and mechs but the actual story sucks. Basically MC gets cucked cause the girl is a bitch.
>>
>>15746321
>0081
there is no 0081 ova
>>
>>15746346
...

Fuck now I have to kill myself.
>>
>>15746239
It's definitely the best UC OVA, it feels the most like 0079, Zeta and ZZ than the others
>>
>>15746478
Agreed. It makes for a satisfying bridge from 0079 to Zeta and it is superbly animated.
>>
I love it, it's not my favourite though, that honor goes to 0079.
>>
>>15746245
That's not G-Reco
>>
>>15746239

Good fights, good animation, good music, good Kou x Kelly getting sweaty to Magic, not a great cast, and a plot with some holes in it. Its not my favorite, but I don't hate it.
>>
>>15746239
It is the best of UC outside of Victory
>>
0083 it's the Top Gun of Gundam.
>>
>>15746478
This isn't 08th MS team
>>
Currently watching it RN
I'm liking it, it's cozy as FUCK and makes me want to rewatch Zeta
>>
Don't forget that best girl Haman shows up for a bit

I thought that was the weakest OVA of them all

Yes if you virtually ignore EVERYTHING wrong with it....nah 0080, 08th Team and even Unicorn are still better than it
>>

>He hasn't seen Gundam 0081
How new are you?
>>
>>15747035
excellent play on words, /m/8
>>
>>15747862
They all bet on a different thing as a main point of appeal.
Stardust Memory is better at being Top Gun that 08th Team at being a Vietnam movie.
Unicorn is good at what it's trying to be but one does not get any credit for deliberately being shit.
>>
>>15746239
I think the only thing that's safe to say is that the original Mobile Suit Gundam was a good show. Though of course there's going to be some contrarian shitposter who's gonna try and dispute that and claim its nothing more than a 30 minute toy ad
>>
>>15746239
Personally, I prefer 0080 as the best OVA, and Thunderbolt is turning out pretty great so far
>>
>>15746239
>Is it safe to assume that this is /m/'s favorite Gundam show?

I don't know about /m/ in general, but I do like it. For one very simple reason : it's a traditional high quality animation ova *from before CG took the industry by the balls). I don't give a shit about the story, the newtypes or absence thereof but when it comes to mecha designs, music and animation it's very very very hard to beat 0083. Unicorn does come close though.
>>
>>15746595
>The events that lead up to the making of the Titans

This is my problem with 0083, as good as it was. The climax of the series are blown 'out of proportion' for a 'midquel/prequel' series and yet the series it bridges into (Zeta) never makes any mentions of its events (A considerable amount of Federation men and women losing their lives to a nuke that the Feddies themselves have been secretly holding, ANOTHER colony drop, etc)

It is as if 0083 was trying to shoe horn events in just to make it look important but failing.

Like you could watch Zeta and not give a crap about 0083 at all.
>>
>>15748201
It's the same problem as Unicorn. It tries to shove a scandal story in since they can't have a full blown war out of nowhere, but the limited impact it can have just makes it seem like scandals revealing the horrible corruption of the federation happen every month or so.
>>
>>15748222
I'll personally give Unicorn a pass on this one since it did what 0083 didn't do: World building (that mattered)

It also gives us an idea of what the UC is like shortly after (the disappointment that is) Char's Counterattack and what some of the characters we've been familiar with in the early UC series (Mineva, Bright, Kai, Beltorchika) have been up to, if only for a moment.
>>
>>15748201
I agree. 0080 worked better for me as a midquel because it was a small, personal story that didn't endeavor to be anything else.

0083's plot provides a larger helping of mecha porn which is great but it's so impact-less and forgettable. I've probably seen it about three times and I still struggle to remember the plot outside of the ending. On top of that, the Titans didn't need an origin story, we understood what they were and why they were just fine.

>>15748222
My problem with Unicorn isn't the scandalous conspiracy plot itself but that the thing they're ultimately covering up was stupid. The box itself was anyway, "Laplace was an inside job" was a big deal though painfully predictable.
>>
>>15746239
The art is great and the mecha designs are great but I fucking hate most of the characters and the drama is contrived as fuck
>>
>>15748269
For all of my problems with Unicorn I still thought it did a fine job as a finale to the Zeon conflicts and finally made up for Char's Counterattack whiffing hard in its attempt to do the same thing.
>>
>>15748289

>fine job
>tons of Zeon remanent unaccounted at Palau
>their financial backers are still around
>Laplace box is supposed to be a political bombshell that could potentially cause great upheaval, even to the admission of the protagonists.

It's literally more open-ended than CCA. The only resolution it offered was blowing up Rewloola. CCA only tried to end Amuro and Char's rivalry, not to wrap up the Zeon conflict.
>>
No Tomino not canon
>>
>>15748313
>Laplace box is supposed to be a political bombshell that could potentially cause great upheaval, even to the admission of the protagonists.

That's my biggest problem with it, especially with the future knowledge that newtypes never become a big enough of a thing for the box's big reveal to matter.

You're left with, "well that was a whole lot of dead people for absolutely nothing." Which I guess is very a very Gundam way to end things honestly.

Not Turn A
>>
>>15748347
I feel that Unicorn's world building is a double edged sword.

On one hand it recontextualizes the first 100 years of the events in UC (in a pretty decent way to say the least) since it makes you view/think of all the events that has happened in a different light what with its political bombshell and all.

But on the other hand, it makes you wonder if its revelations didn't really matter in the end. All post CCA (and pre F91 and Victory) material that pop up are seemingly unaffected by Unicorn's events (much like Zeta and 0083) despite how 'big' they were. But I'd chalk this up to the good ol' common issue of 'retroactive additions to an already established world/plot' in any 'fictional work of considerable size' as I'd like to call it.
>>
>>15748347
>>15748430

It fucks with me how much Unicorn leaves open for basically no reason at all. Mineva makes a big speech, Megallanica detaches, they find out the secret of the box, and... that's it. A lotta Feel Good but nothing actually conclusive aside from the fact that Full Frontal's fleet was destroyed.
>>
>>15746239
Definitely has the best intro of the oavs. Possibly best in the series?
>>
>>15746239
No because it has a realistic female character.
>>
>>15746921
Exactly.
>>
>>15748581
Tomino writes the most realistic female characters

>>
>>15746921
>>15748586

0083 and 8th MS Team are a lot aloke. Both are the best animated gundam series, with leads that are very weak, but base as fuck supporting villains and supporting heroes whom you would rather the focus have been on.
>>
>>15746239
It's not a show. It's an OVA. Being developed for TV makes something a TV show.
