Shakes head. Amu is schizofrenic, so is Leccee.
In fact most girls in L-gaim range between batshit crazy insane and batshit crazy.
The only one that is more or less ok is the captain of the ship that Gavlet commands throughout the show.
Above all though reigns Lillith fairy girl. She's the eternal optimistic, has her head squarely on her shoulders, and should have won the Myroad bowl. But alas it was not to be. the ending was slightly incestic ?

It's like a blend between Zeta and ZZ Gundam with a heavy dose of Nagano in the mix. Reminded me of Xabungle at times as well. Good action, interesting plot, lots of comedy, and some crazy sci-fi stuff coupled with Tomino feminism. Lots of fantastic Nagano technical and character designs. Suffers from the usual Tomino flaws and some meandering at the halfway point.

Definitely recommend it.

L-Gaim is much closer to Xabungle (not only in terms of characters, but also in spirit) than Zeta. I mean Elchee -> Leccee doesn't it ring a bell ? There are much more references to Xabungle as well in the show.
Actually it has more in common with ZZ than Zeta. I get it, people want put Zeta in every comparison when talking 1980s mecha but in this case it's simple wrong.

Also, it was the battle choreography that made me think of Zeta. Plus the three way conflict during the final arc of the series and the whole focus on women acting because of men thing.

I actually found it to be pretty dumb and droning, and not in an endearing character driven way like most Tomino shows. It just felt like a strange dream, the way characters interacted and events played out.

But once I got to the part with the actual good subs, I was just so bored since the previously zany and fun show was now trying to get me to take it seriously

In the final stretch of my rewatch. Enjoying it a lot more this time.

Definitely seeing the links people are making to L-Gaim and such, but it's still light hearted. Also the slightly fantastic setting makes the sillier stuff a lot more acceptable.

The plot just moved too slow for me to be kept interested. The fight scenes and mecha design were great though, but not enough to carry the show like in Dunbine. I stopped in the early 30s after having spent almost 2 years to make it there.

Some of the first shin-getter episodes were pretty crab-sticky but it's improved a good bit since then IMO.
