Jack McKinney's Robotech novels > original Japanese shows > Robotech cartoon

Not bait, entirely sincere. The novels make the series the grand, sweeping, generational space opera epic that Robuttheads always insist it is. They're better than the individual Japanese shows (Macross is brilliant but on average the other two drag it down) and Robotech itself is just naff 80s hacked up rewrites of said shows.

FTFY, now we can finish up this quick discussion.
I had fun reading them.

I have to give credit to Daley/Luceno for going to the effort of giving in-universe explanations for a lot of the oddball stuff that occurs in the animation itself, like the Max-Milia knife-fight or why the water surrounding the SDF-1 didn't immediately boil after they folded to Pluto.
Admittedly, a lot of those explanations comes down to 'lol, Protoculture.'

These books were my childhood. I read the first collection until it fell apart.
Thanks, anon.
Is the 80s show worth a watch? What about Macross?
>>15730127
Not really. It isn't a bad dub for its time, but has about as much relevance as whether or not Hillary Clinton's carpet matches the drapes.
SDF: Macross and its sequels are worth a watch. DO NOT watch the ADVision dub, it is hot shit on a platter.

Why would I be worried about its relevance?
