Would Mecha be more useful in real life if they had human-like muscles and skeletons?

https://youtu.be/0ZBD2tcKOU4

Probably not necessarily human like but if we took something like a cheetah, made it out of metal and scaled it to 20ft tall

Wheels or treads are better than legs in scaled up applications due to square cube law.

>Would Mecha be more useful in real life if they had human-like muscles and skeletons?

No. Maybe for serving prosthesis technology, but other than that, it's an answer in search of a question.
>>
>>15726861
Yeah but its not as cool
>>

>Would Mecha be more useful in real life if they had human-like muscles and skeletons?
>something like a cheetah, made it out of metal and scaled it to 20ft tall

No because there's no practical use for 20ft tall robot cheetahs.
>>
>>15726852
>robably not necessarily human like but if we took something like a cheetah, made it out of metal and scaled it to 20ft tall
And what purpose would this big metal cheetah fill? Why would anyone blow what would undoubtedly a ton of money on this machine?
>>
>>15726852
Legs are only more useful than wheels when you are encountering terrain that is too rough to be traversed by wheels, it doesn't matter how legs are achieved.

That kind of robot concept would probably be useful for making ghost in the shell robot bodies for people, though.
>>
>>15726870
Yeah but we could make it anyway
Just look at this shit

>>
>>15726863
So we could have a regular sized metal cheetah
>>
>>15726852
Artificial muscle based mecha between 10 to 20 feet tall and controlled by the pilot mentally to allow full dexterity would be very useful, they could be used as versatile vehicles for things like construction, for police Patlabor style, and in the military they'd dominate urban, jungle, and mountain combat where conventional vehicles have a lot of trouble.

Spindly eva-like ones in particular would be useful due to being able to fit through narrow spaces much easier, if they're as slender as rebuild eva units and not too large they could probably even crawl through buildings.
>>
>>15726901

But ask yourself, what job would a mech actually do that a conventional vehicle or drone can't do better?

future of warfare is drone swarms.

In terms of stress-resistance and ease of maintenance - maybe. Fewer parts means more robust and durable construction. In terms of energy efficiency and weight reduction? Right now - no. Probably, if some advances are made in memory materials field, something will change.
>>
>>15726881
Why not just hook a computer up to a cheetah's nervous system and control it?

Organic things die
A mechanical cheetah does not age or need food

A small, low-flying personal transport has far more useful applications that giant cheetah-bots.
>>
>>15726935
Yes but a 100 year old car if kept well will stick around, and parts will be easier to replace than in a organic being

You groom an organic being and they just get fat and old

>A mechanical cheetah does not age or need food

mechanical things still need regular maintenance and other services, dummy.
>>
>>15726939
That isn't an inherent part of organic life. It's a trait that evolved very early on in animals and those that inherited it came to dominate and wipe out those that didn't because it makes evolution faster and populations stronger when things get old and die.
Genetically engineering immortality wouldn't be hard, I mean, as far as anything in genetic engineering is easy. It's just that nobody in a position to allow it to happen wants it to happen.
>>
>>15726939
organisms self-repair and are far more able in a wider variety of enviroments

a mechanical organism needs regular maintenance, upkeep, and fuel, not to mention replacement parts far more regularly

a human that is over 100 years old needing a new heart is like your car needing a new engine because the old one is so trashed

and how many 100 year old cars, let alone 50 year old cars do you see in prime working order

a 50 year old human who keeps in decent physical shape is far more capable than any 50 year old machine
>>
>>15726951
So youre saying we should just go full EVA
>>
>>15726956
something that huge would require so much energy just to keep it running, and for what?
EVAs were only relevant at all because of their AT fields and the unique nature of the Angel threat, for more terrestrial conflict (and without AT magic) something like that would be useless
>>
>>15726933
>A mechanical cheetah does not age or need food

You realize that for most high end mechanical things like vehicles, have a certain ratio for maitenence right?

For shit like military grade planes its like every 2 hours of flight is 6 hours of maintenance to keep it in top shape.
>>
>>15726852
We just dont need mecha on Earth. One day Gundam will be real, but far in the future and far away.
>>
>>15726981
We dont need mecha in space either
>>
>>15726923
Warfare isn't entirely based around bombing shit, aerial drones can't hold areas and properly deal with civilian populations, there's always going to be a need for boots on the ground to properly control an area.

Thousands of eight foot tall eva-looking drone foot soldiers monitored by a few human officers on the ground supported by shit-tons of aircraft of all shapes and sizes launched from naval vessels is peak military performance.
>>
>>15726973
That and mechanical bodies and frames do have an expected cap on their useful life. The older something is, the more maintenance it requires.. and the more frequently it has to be done. At some point the amount of maintenance becomes impractical or just won't be effective anymore. Metal stress and fatigue, wear and tear, etc will result in weakening structural strength.

Mecha would be useful on the moon or low gravity asteroids. The efficiency of wheels depends upon traction, and traction depends on weight. Unintentional burnouts will be a problem on the moon.
Plus moon dust is like toxic powdered glass and will fuck axles and any other exposed mechanics right up. You can't really put a properly sealed protective covering over something that's meant to spin freely, much easier to cover up joints that just move back and forth, gundam thunderbolt style.
>>
>>15726852
mechas are unrealistic silly, get job and stop watching children's cartoons.

just kidding...

Fuck you Ill make mecha and send them to Elon Musks Mars colony so we can rebel against the normies
