Tv-Asahi always pushed to make Kamen Rider lighter. In fact, Ryuki was proposed to them as a lighter take on the franchise, highlighting the monster anime and card game elements.

It was producers like Takatera and Shirakura that fought to keep it darker, but then Takatera was kicked out due to the production issues involving Hibiki and Shirakura left the tv producer position after Decade.

You can see recently that non-tv stuff like Amazons and even Ex-Aid's specials often stretch their legs due to not being tied to tv standards.

Say what you want about ghost (cuz yeah, it wasnt very good), but the main cast (outside imouto-san, grampa asshole and the flying sockpuppet) were really good, despite their quirks and tropes they really did grow on you.

Having said that, the exaid cast was beyond good, all of them were well fleshed out and are endearing on their own, everyone actually contributed something in the plot and actually grew, even Asuna/Poppy ended up a legit likeable character despite her premise, and lets not forget emu's evolution from a meek clumsy intern, to this doctor who can teach you the values of life the hard way. the only flaws i find are Director Kagami being 'just there' and (shin)Dan's overly forced acting.

Build has a really tall order to fill after this.

Basically when Argos asked Takeru why the fuck he would want to be mortal and not a superpowerful ghost like they both would, Takeru says "Ghosts can't eat dinner." The idea is that he means as a ghost you can't really experience normal mortal pleasures or feel human or any of that.

Normally, this'd work for characters who are typically quite childish and give very simple or odd answers to convey more complicated answers or reasons, but Takeru has no personality beyond being the fucking messiah, so it just comes across as an insincere moment of idiocy.

No, it's just a blatantly out-of-character, dumb line. If Takeru were a character akin to say Mamoru where he's naturally a very juvenile and simple-minded person, the "Ghosts can't have dinner" line would've been perfect and people would have found it charming. The thing is, Takeru is a boring non-character whose personality is best described with "if he were a spice, he'd be flour" and has at no point ever up to that movie indicated such a similarly juvenile attitude. A bit playful I guess, sure, but not childish. So as a result, it just comes off as an awkward, out-of-character response to a very arbitrary question. And yes, I remembered there was a bit with eating dinner in the beginning of the movie, it still doesn't work even with that.

No, he steals Takeru's living body. I'm not kidding with you there. Takeru didn't die from the attack, he nearly died and Edith nabbed the body, stuffed it in one of those Anima/Animus/whatever coffins, and used the Ore Eyecon as Takeru's Ganma Eyecon. Argos nabs his body from the coffin, and he uses it to produce the Extremer Driver after essentially stuffing it with 100 souls.

His body is stated to be alive in the tv show. The sage took it, but then it disappeared at some point (which is when Argos took it for the movie). But, yeah, I don't think the movie itself said his body was alive. Although part of it is that the movie seemed to be trying to be kind of standalone, if you only watch it, you might even think that Takeru resurrected for real at the end.
