What is the best type of mecha and why is it the kind that mixes western and eastern styles without looking super flashy with pointy parts everywhere and uses their fists as their main weapon?

Western

Eastern
>Doesn't look like a tank on legs that can only move its legs and turn its torso
>Arms actually have a function other than just pointing weapons forward in a 90 degree angle
>Can move in human-like ways (running, dashing, jumping, punching, kicking, etc.) and rather fast too

Battlemechs don't at least in the games. Heard they can do more stuff in the books but the fanbase throws a tism fit whenever they're portrayed that way. So Negative.
>Arms actually have a function other than just pointing weapons forward in a 90 degree angle.
Same thing. Heard they can punch and grapple in books but look to answer 1. Negative
>Can move in human-like ways (running, dashing, jumping, punching, kicking, etc.) and rather fast too
Refer to answer one. They do nothing but point and shoot in games. No melee. Unless you count jump jetting and landing on someone melee. lol Negative

The only "real" western mecha, that is mecha actually made based on western influences, are Mead's Mobile Suits for Turn A and Nagano's Mortar Headds. Mead's designs are a no brainer since he himself is a western artist influenced by industrial design and architecture, while Nagano's MH take direct inspiration from Giger and Moebius.

Most "realistic" crap designed by westerners are derived Kazutaka Miyatake's Destroids and power armors. The fact that some people even think the east and west have a distinction based on realism is retarded to begin with.

Sad, for the dumb whities that would reject such great designs in favor of the Japanese ones they have been rehashing for almost half a century.

Japs had enough taste to take inspiration to create the Regults. Batteltech cocksuckers happily steal the Regults and everything else in between and then piss all over the concept.

>>
>>15692246

>>
>>15692504
Giant robots existed before 1960s Japan, sure.

But Japan pretty much created giant robots, especially giant piloted robots, as a story concept and did so with very little outside influence. The biggest thing you could argue for is Starship Troopers, but even that didn't impact giant robots until Tomino looked at it for Gundam.

When you think of giant, piloted robots, it's a Japanese creation with some stuff existing beforehand but mostly in isolation. And it was the Japanese stuff that popularised it, created machines with versamillitude and 'realistic' aesthetics which then filtered back to the West. Sunrise, Studio Nue and ARTMIC are responsible for what you see as realistic robots (which aren't realistic because giant robots aren't realistic regardless of what they are).

The funny thing is that they actually owe more to the genre defining characteristics of Gerry Anderson's shows such as Stingray, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet and UFO, rather than any American influence.

Also, the Japs came up with the best mobile infantry design.

Here's how Heinlein described the MI suit. Not really close to how Naoyuki Kato designed it. Starship Troopers impact on the genre largely stems from this Japanese design and the idea of having a more traditional military organisation. But then again, WASP, SHADO and SPECTRUM from Gerry Anderson's shows were all military organisations as well. So how far that goes it's hard to say.

Of course piloted robots go back even further than Mazinger and there's both Japanese, American, British etc depictions of them going back quite some time so this argument is pretty silly. However, in terms of verisimilitude, Japanese creators pretty much built up the idea of what some people see as 'realistic' robot design. Also remember that this was all back before the internet. A lot of what we can point to today and go 'See, look at this!' was obscure as all hell back in the day and unlikely to have traveled. Like that Brazilian comic.

Yeah, fair enough.

It's an interesting discussion about where this stuff came from; people put the first thing as generally being the Martian Fighting Machines, but how we got to where we are today is a different question (and there's stuff predating Wells as well). There was some links of influence, either directly or indirectly between creators across the globe and with people independently and concurrently coming up with similar ideas.

However, one thing we can say with extreme confidence is that the concept of giant robots over the last 50 years has been dominated and developed extensively by Japanese studios and creators, and its their influence that is most commonly seen when people depict giant robots today. The sheer extent and variety of concepts and designs that's emerged from over 50 years of popular work cover pretty much everything you could want from the concept walking fighting vehicle.

>>15693004

>>
>>15693024
I know I could've been a lot more specific, but this is fucking /m/.
>>
>>15693028
And throughout the entire time of Mechwarrior, people have been asking for melee combat to be included in the games. Basically it started as engine limitations up to about Mechwarrior 4. (Heavy Gear 2 was developed between 3 and 4 and while Heavy Gear 1 used Mechwarrior 3's engine, 2 used a new one and had melee, so by 4 it was possible). Then it became a balance thing; it's harder to pull off in a video game without weakening ranged weaponry (which pretty much ends up being PPC spamming) while in the tabletop, it has its place due to how the game works and the different tactical situations, plus designs that are made to emphasise melee combat.

That's mainly because it's a marriage robot. It's got the dicks and vags because it was meant to symbolize the union of the sexes at a marriage ceremony.

But it's literally a mix of japanese stuff

>head is Gundam+Brave
>chest is more or less Votoms+Layzner
>shoulders are Zaku
>piston punch and forearms are from Votoms again, same as legs and feet with wheels
>skirt is literally from Guncannon/GM line
>backpack looks like some late UC mech

>Whites did invent modern medicine.

Benjamin Franklin disagress. Most of what we call modern medicine was discovered and put to paper by people who're at the very least a bit swarthy and thus not white.

Brits aren't that swarthy.

Most of them are according to that Founding Father as they freely interbred with people from Wales, with the French ect.
>>
>>15693923
>French

Not really a lot of French influx; Normans maybe but there was a tiny amount of them and mostly they were aristocratic so bred amongst themselves and other noble families across Europe. The largest French influx in history was only recently when a ton of them came over to London in the last 20 years.

As a half Welsh, half-Englishman, I can confirm however that I have been mistaken for being Mediterranean at times, but only in Med countries.

Just because someone was part of the group that established your nation doesn't meant they're correct.

>>15693932
It's hilarious to recognize that Benjamin Franklin was more racist than the 14 worders in any case.

>>15693947
>Someone from the 18th century who reeeeee'd because he wanted Common Law to apply outside of where it applied but only in specific situations that benefited him was racist.

Quelle surprise.

Does this mean like, bayformers? Because even easthetics people associate with 'western mecha' like Mechwarrior have roots in the east.

I've always wondered sometimes why Takani's Xabungle stuff would occasionally pop up in this sort of thing.
>>
>>15701011

A Basilisk-class protomech. Protomechs are actually some of the better and more original designs from BT, IMO. They're maybe 6m to a battlemechs' 12m, smaller and faster. The pilot is curled into fetal position in the torso and controls the robot through direct neural interface. A normal b'mech has partial neural interface, so the mech picks up on his sense of balance and reflexes and he picks up a basic 'sense' of what shape the mech is in, but otherwise everything is controlled by switch lever and pedal.
