I think you just have a predisposition to the series because you've been listening to /m/ for long.
When it was airing it didn't start to get into messy territory until the venus globe/towasanga arcs which are around episode 12-15 iirc.
Everything up until the fight with Bellri's teacher was told in a very traditional sense for the most part.

G-Reco is worse than ZZ

ZZ had some genuine funny moments, likeable characters, plot made some kinda sense sometimes, but G-Reco is such a fucking confusing incomprehensible mess it makes you heard hurt if you think about what's actually happening in the story. All characters are annoying cunts, constructed from gundam tropes to irritate you as much as possible, cause that's apparently what is a character should be like according to genius of Tomino.

I hate it so fucking much.

This is objectively wrong IMO.
G-reco may be bad, but it at least did interesting stuff on the production value side of things.
It had a very distinct art direction that was able to channel the visual atmosphere of an 80s anime while pushing its capability as a show in the contemporary age.
That alone earns it some stars from me.

IBO and Destiny are far worse in that respect.

Yes, it's been 3 years and you still refuse to admit that the writing was truly awful, even after even tomino admitted as much.

Before g-rekt we had a couple of people constantly complaining about how animation in mecha anime had gone to shit with too much CG and when g-rekt was properly announced these people pretty much creamed their pants. Then it started airing and people noticed that everything except the animation was shit.

Now we no longer have people complaining about too much CG, instead we have people attacking anyone who dares to point out that the writing in g-rekt was shit and that attack every other series that doesn't have roughly the same level of hand animation (so everything except thunderbolt) since g-rekt with truly autistic fervor as if they're trying to get back at people for not liking g-rekt.
