Tekkadan is pretty fucking awful for a protagonist organization. I would say Celestial Being but they had an intended goal and Aeolia's vision in its purest orthodoxy was supposed to have them end up as martyrs after uniting the world against them.

But as far as body count goes and methods behind them? Probably Zeon and all related Zeonic splinter groups, remnants, factions, etc...with the Titans and Cosmo Babylonia as well as the Jovian Empire not that far behind.

Yes. And while the war didn't actually end up being 100 years as promised, no other villainous group comes close to their time active. I imagine their total body count is insane.

There is also the fact that while most factions in Gundam had some potential goal that would at the very least end in the favor of their people if they won the war, the Vegans were just kind of fucked. They were all dying and the one man who could save them would rather use them as suicidal pawns to create further death and destruction. It pains me to crown AGE on any front, but the Vegans really are the worst of the worst.

Zeon killed the most people with the most real-world war crime means. Half of humanity, most of it other Spacenoids, was killed by Zeon using gas and nukes in one week.

The Vegans operated for longer, but did immensely less damage during that time because they went into hibernation for thirty years at a time and didn't use Zeon's tools of mass murder. The only rule of war that they broke was the in-universe rule that they made up to justify why Earth's technology sucked so much.

The only group that beats Zeon for atrocity count is the SRA, because the SRA is literally just Zeon if they did more colony drops.

If one good thing can be said about Zeon it's that they did not intend to drop the colony on Australia. They were aiming for Jaburo and only when the Federation managed to divert the colony's course did it plunge right into Sydney instead.

Another fun fact: even if the Titans had exterminated every single Spacenoid there was, gassed every last colony that had anyone alive on it, they still wouldn't have killed as many Spacenoids as Zeon did in one week because after that one week there weren't enough Spacenoids left.

We haven't really seen the Federation itself do anything competent since like 0079. It's always been groups like Londo Bell or the League Militaire who have to fight and die for the safety of others while the federation is either actively corrupt, corrupt by proxy, or taking forever to mobilize.

Granted, those groups always seem to be fighting some successor to Zeon that wants to (Or just straight up does) commit mass genocide, I'm not going to claim Zeon is somehow the good-guy here. But the Federation proper ranges from useless to awful.

I never imagined that was the goal or intention of a faction/organization though, just one or two fed up pilots who were sick of war pulling the trigger of their untested superweapons. In the one flashback you see Turn A coasting along earth as it fucks everything up, implying the pilot is still active inside consciously causing the destruction, despite the fact that no faction would benefit from the act.

Unless they were nuking colonies from the inside, all nukes would do is heat up the outer surface of the colony. Detonating nukes in between the mirrors and glass would be a good way to kill everyone inside without causing much physical damage.
The tremendous explosive force of a nuclear bomb is caused by the supercritical reaction generating so much heat that it superheats the atmosphere around it, there isn't actually that much material to be vaporized and produce a blast in the bomb itself.
