reminder that if TTGL wasn't known by every entry-level pleb then /m/ would suck it up and say it's an underrated masterpiece

Not really. It still remains a generic anime with some very poorly done mecha choreography. That shit doesn't fly in any way.

Underrated, maybe. Masterpiece, no. It's not 2004 Tetsujin or anything like that.

It was great for its time, but only newfags think it's still great.
GL basically tapped into the spirit of a booming online anime community, as well as the more idealistic outlook the internet generally had before the eternal winter of social media set in.
But now, the show stands up to the more cynical times we live in as well as the newly un-retired Dave Chapelle.
It's a period piece if I've ever seen one.
I'd imagine it'd be slightly more well known than the jegg remake.

Would that imply that something similar but "greater" has appeared now?

Irrelevant to anything and everything, but sure, why not.

>a generic anime
Do you even know what that means?

No the majority of /m/ would call it a fun, albeit flawed, little send up to older mecha shows that borrows a little too much from said older shows. Pretty much the same as now except it would change from having the tagline of overrated to overlooked.

It's still an extremely derivative series despite how popular it is. It being popular ruined the mecha fanbase in general though because now people know the ripoff over the originals.
