***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

== THICK MS GROUPBUILD ==

Build a kit of your choice that's heavily armored, and thick in the thighs/arms/torso/general area. Examples include:
>Dom + Dom Variants
>The O
>Virtue/Seravee Gundams
>Gusion/Man Rodis
>Full Armor gundams (If they're heavily armored, and not guns strapped everywhere like the FA Unicorn)

Non-Bandai kits are allowed, so feel free to whip out a Frame Arms kit or something and work with that as long as you make it thicc as fuck.

Start Date: 6/15
End Date: 8/31

Thanks! I'm painting him for a friend; I picked a RG MK-II to be my first gunpla and Kamille is even smaller. They have lots of detail though, so it's nice to paint them.

(Also I'm shamelessly putting the photo again in this thread)
>>
>>15677857
Well, best of luck doing an RG as your first kit. They're certainly not mega hard but it always helps to throw together a few cheap HGs before you pop into something that is a bit more expensive.

Make sure to show us your wip, I can't wait to see. I literally passed on buying that RG MK-II today just because I didn't know what its quality was like.

Had a little mishap today. I was in the process of attaching A25 to A8 but hadn't sanded/scraped down A25 properly (if the picture isn't clear, its TINY and hard to work with), so it wasn't going in snugly. Frustration mounting, I squeezed it a bit too hard and wa l a, it sprang away with explosive force. I couldn't even tell what direction it flew so I'm doubtful I'll ever find it. So long, A-25 bro, also I guess this shield will never be complete.

Do you mean voila? Sorry to hear that man. When I was making my first kit I had a pic related moment and caused a thruster to fly off into orbit. Wife found it while sweeping and all was well, several days later.

>>15677919
Some of them are egregiously bad. While I support not lending to tripfags, if they're participating in the thread and built up a little trust, why give them shit? I mean they're guaranteed to go shit-mode eventually by the nature of what draws them to trip/name and trying to do shit like that about them just causes them to go defensive instead of listen.

But just be mindful of who you reply to and about what. If you feed them you hurt not just yourself but the other people who are here in the community with you, who support you, give advice, share progress, and are willing to help you on request.

Even if a GBWC contender dropped some world class competitive great one it wouldn't make an effect. Your stance is an ego defense one.

You don't play it close to the chest enough. Try harder or go home. Bake on your replies longer so you don't reveal your own insecurities and open willingness to shut out outside opinions without consideration.

I'm the guy who defended you as just liking the toy aesthetic recently, so take it as mild non-aggressive observations from someone who has no malice towards you.

Everyone likes their own thing. I like clean assembled kits without paint, without overly large amounts of detail, without excessive decals. But I don't like shiny plastic so I sand mine over the entire kit.

There's two enemies here. When people give you shit, you give it credit with a response, you gave them that power. Secondly, my best guess is most of your pictures in replies aren't kits you just finished but from a folder, and that just kind of...it doesn't do anything positive or add anything to anything you are saying.

>>15678232
I'll post mine, as I'm a third party. This was my first kit, HG Shining. Did it with tool side cutters and a nail file. Fucked up a lot.

I'm about halfway done with the Guncannon, the EZ8 in that picture is done and awaiting paint (it's an absolutely ancient kit and I want to bring it up to modern kit standards because its a learning experience).

Not pictures that I kept is an MG Sword Impulse awaiting panel lining etc. The rest are sent to gundam heaven

its quite simple, but removing the excess can be a pain since for some reasons the white kept smudging and would not go away easily even after rubbing it off with thinner

I'm almost done with the build; I didn't found it to be too difficult to assembly having good tools. As for its quality; I have built other models before (miniatures and historical ones, but never plamos) and I have to say that I find the RG something close to witchcraft; I still can't understand how they can make articulated parts in the fucking sprues. It's by far, the most quality model I ever assembled.

MK-II looks amazing even without painting it, but I'm going to do it anyways. I'll post pictures once I start with it.

>>15678748

Thanks. I think that the most important thing for shading at this size is having good brushs and paint using a really thinned mix. Pic is the texture I'm using for it.
>>
>>15678890
>I still can't understand how they can make articulated parts in the fucking sprues.
They have pieces made of a different plastic (with a different composition and higher melting point that won't fuse together) already in the mold when they inject the majority of the plastic

Tell me about it. $25-30 bare minimum, and those will probably be an ancient kit on par with one of the vintage cheapo Gundams at worst, or a 1000 yen Space Yamato at best. Complete with parts not even fitting together correctly.

The prices on American kits blow me away. If there's a Hobby Lobby near you, grab one of their 40% off one item coupons online. HL is a store I avoid, but 40% off kits have to be a loss leader for them, so I'm actively draining their budget for war-looted Iraqi antiquities. They have a surprisingly large assortment, too.

Oh that is one damn good kit, I have it and love it to bits. If only Bandai made more. Just some advice, tighten the joints, the skeleton and all because this guy is moreso HG, no full inner frame and with the joint cloth starting to tension after compressing it for a while can be frustrating when your arm pops off its socket repeatedly. And give it as much panel line as you do because it looks naked without it.

As for the golden crest on the chest its chromed so might want to cover it up with topcoat, doubtful you can see it properly on the image here but one side of it flaked. Also cement as much no moving parts as you can, some parts fall off easily

My brain is dumb and always thinks of flag colors which ruins some color schemes for me.

maybe it's just my personal taste but I think the face plate should always be the same or a lighter color than the color of the helmet piece.
And yeah, 3-4 colors max
>>
>>15680162

Generally I might agree with you, but it's a bit hard to go for a lighter color than white and I didn't like white on it in this case.

The original helmet color is black and the faceplate a light blue kind of color so it does follow that idea originally though.

I really want the faceplate and v-fin or the chin and v-fin to be the same color because I like the triangle it creates. The shape is always there, of course, but the colors being the same on those pieces emphasizes it in a way I like.

>>
>>15680399
Understandable. I've been making the Real Grenade Sinanju and so far, everything feels pretty solid, other than those free floating pieces on the knees, and the toe pieces. But those are held on by friction, and it';s not much, so I get that. So far I'm thinking people overly exaggerated how bad RGs are.
>>
>>15680457
My RG MKII is the only gunpla I have that I let normies handle, because it's solid as a rock.
>>
>>15680497
Some of the RGs have issues, due to the detail they're putting in at this scale. Like you said, sometimes they have to resort to having pieces held in only by friction, with some of the earlier ones the process to inject two sets of plastic in one mold and make articulated joints wasn't mature and honestly fuck those real grade hands. They're a cool concept, having poseable hands at that scale but they aren't worth it and they don't even look good. Another problem is sometimes they can be very, very particular about how they put them together, and if you make a mistake and parts aren't set together just exactly right, you end up with a hand grenade. One of the easiest ones to fuck up is the 00 raiser, if you aren't very careful to get a little grey piece in the GN drives seated as deep as possible, the side binders won't lock in to place and will just flop out. The manuals don't bother to warn you which pieces are very hard to get correct, either.

the ova version is slighlty better, basically the original with couple new parts. non transforming v-fin, lightly better knee articulation, new parts for the head to show it has vulcans, and blue beamsabers for some reason. overall, its a kit thats there to look cool. transformation is finicky, but not that bad from my experiences. feet can get unreliable over time and the knees and elbows can only go 90 degrees.

summary: both versions are basically the same, but the ova version is the better of the 2

I dunno man, I'm really not digging that color scheme.

Leaving aside that it's just not that common for militaries to plaster their uniforms or machines in the bright colors of their flag, that combination is just garish without really conjuring what it seems meant to conjure. That yellow torso block just looks out of place.

yah its shit. It was just the first thing that came to mind. Still in the very early planning phase. The original color schemes for nazi bot were based on uniforms and they all looked like shit. I ended up going with colors based on Luftwaffe and panzers. I need to look up soviet airforce and tank colors.

I haven't finished painting a gunpla in a few years, my old ones looked like shit thanks to me being shit at painting back then, I used overly glossy paint and overdid the drybrushing.

Most recent kit I've finished is this little T-90 from late last year, /toy/ liked it.

yeah, it's universal unit. it's the only one I own, I'm gonna buy the zgok E p-bandai kit soon for the hygogg missile arm things

I was disappointed to find out that hygogg only has one articulating arm out of the box, and only the non-articulating arm can rotate at the shoulder. so I bought another box and made the modifications so hygogg can wail his arms around with extreme freedom

both hygogg kits came with very tight join fitting, so sanding the holes bigger is a must, i broke a joint on my first one because it was too tight and it twisted the peg off the plastic. it's also not fun posing it with very stiff joints.

So on the legs I tried thicker, on the arms I tried thinner. On the rightmost leg was brown on yellow, and left was grey. Body was black pour-type gundam marker. Which looks best? Also one of the camera stickers is paint instead of a decal because it just would not stick.

Yes, but that means it's a product with a potential market of (number of people who bought the RE/100 nightingale), and only some of them will buy it.
Was it how you get the waterslide decals too? Bandai dicks people around like that a lot. They attach the waterslides to some p-bandai exclusive so you have to pay out the ass to get decals that don't suck

You say that, but I don't see how the Gundiver would have failed to make a profit, and they're reprinting the Pale Rider + a space variant so they really ought to make the regular Pale Rider normal Bandai and MAYBE keep the Space type P-Bandai.

I always assumed that the reason why the Pale Rider is kept P-Bandai/event exclusive is because it was originally only available as part of an expensive deluxe bundle for the Missing Link game.
