Dude 0079 has already had a remaster, what you want is not a remaster but a remake with state of art animation techniques.
And that ain't gonna happen. Console yourself with The Origin ova because that's about as close as you'll get to a modern remake of 0079.

Remake a series everyone that matters has seen one to one with ok animation (TV Sunrise you know) and I guarantee nobody cares.

If I had to guess, I'd say the debate over what should/shouldn't be changed might be a hangup. If it were up to me, the animation would be updated frame-for-frame with the original audio retained 100%. No re-recording, no retcons, no replacing G-Armor with Core Booster. I wouldn't even omit the Doan's Island episode.

Others would want the G-Armor replaced and the number of Mobile Armors reduced, or the salt scenes edited out, or the dialogue re-recorded. And then there are those who would push for an all-out adaptation of Origin instead of a remaster of the original series.

Sunrise doesn't really need the UC fan base to keep Gundam afloat. All their AU content continues to print money regardless of how you as a fan personally feel. They are under no obligation to cater to what is frankly a niche of a niche of a NICHE market. Don't get me wrong, I would mail sunrise my wallet if they gave all of 0079 "The Origin" treatment, but I don't see it being a thing.

Question for the thread though: what was the budget for each episode of The Origin so far, and what did each make domestically and internationally?

The OAV are selling well, for instance volume 4 sold 50 000 copies in Nipland. It also regularly tops the amazon.jp charts

There really is no reason to remake 0079 unlike same Yamato it actually holds up remarkably well in terms of story and writing. A remake will make it so obvious just how creatively bankrupt the franchise has been for over 30 years given how many installments are essentially the same story or hell most mecha anime in general.

Origin has the unique characteristic of making Gundam more palatable for people. A couple of coworkers of mine have seen clips of IBO and Unicorn but are really intimidated by the Gundam lexicon. I don't blame them either. Looking in on this franchise as a whole can be a goddamn mess and the fan base can be pretty toxic/autistic.
