Mecha set in a time of human expansion in to the asteroid belt, with a gold rush/wild west kind of feel, basically lawless mining stations with seedy dealings going on everywhere, and frontier justice if any. The protagonists would be like US Marshalls in mechs.

Something substituting giant robots into infantry actions. Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down, Fury... I think any of those could translate into a decent real robot movie.

Close but I was thinking something more Macross like. Maybe it's just the recent Macross series haven't had a romance I like.

The mechs are actually ancient demons powered by feeding off of the pilots souls. The mechs allow the pilots to replenish their soul by destroying other mechs and killing the pilots/other people. Thus a never ending cycle of murder and mayhem.

An anime with a similar feel and realism to it,like Gundam but that is actually a space opera and has various alien species,as well as humanity, with a feel a bit similar to old Star Wars.
And don`t say fucking Macross.
>>
>>15676382
>realism
>like Gundam
???
>>
>>15676389
Not the same anon, but yes Gundam is known for spawning the Real Robot genre, keeping away from the Super Robot Genre popular around the time of Gundam 0079's release. This is mainly due to the destructabilty and imperfection of the robots used (being tools manufactured by contractors, sold, and repaired by field mechanics with imperfect knowledge), the focus on Zakus using weapons on par with tanks, with beam weapons being very new in universe, the use of realistic space colony designs based directly on famous concept colonies, the cruelty of war motif (which was never a part of Super Robot shows), the varying gravity of celestial bodies, the real labels of orbits (L1, L3, etc.), the realistic physical phenomena referenced in major plot points (Lagrange points in space, atmospheric breaking, eccentric orbits), etc. of course this really only applies to the Universal Century.
>>

>the cruelty of war motif (which was never a part of Super Robot shows)
Newfag alert. That existed way before Gundam was even a thing in mecha series.

Go read Mitsteru Yokoyama's 50s and 60s science fiction works. Heck, go read Shotaro Ishinomori's library as well.

Why do Gundamfags keep making dumb ridiculous claims like these?
>>
>>15676444
>TV Tropes
None of these genres are actual genres. They were terms used by marketing teams to push their toys.

Gundam wasn't the first to even be called a real robot. It was Votoms.
>>
>>15676446
I'm of course not claiming it to be the first Real Robot series, but it is still more real Robot than many children's shows at the time
>>
>>15676447
>but it is still more real Robot than many children's shows at the time
No it wasn't. Realism isn't what set Gundam apart from other children shows at the time. Like I said, have you read the works of Mitsuteru Yokoyama and Shotaro Ishinomori?

Even Mazinger is more realistic than Gundam, considering it doesn't have the concept of super pilots, and the robot actually got damaged throughout the series.
>>
>>15676446
The genre definitions are definitely wonky, but they have their place in separating stories with superhero-like robots and military robots.

Gundam may not have been the first to be called real robot, but it was the first to exemplify the tropes like war story, robots as military equipment, somewhat realistic setting, etc.
Keep in Mind that Gundam aired in 1979 and Votoms in 1983, therefore Gundam probably influenced Votoms, just like Macross influenced Zeta Gundam.
>>
>>15676365
The neozeon technically
>>
>>15676457
>but they have their place in separating stories with superhero-like robots and military robots.
They have their place in explaining trends, not as actual genres.

>but it was the first to exemplify the tropes like war story, robots as military equipment, somewhat realistic setting
No, that was Tetsujin 28 and Giant Robo.

>Keep in Mind that Gundam aired in 1979 and Votoms in 1983
What set Gundam apart wasn't its military or "realistic" setting. It wasn't anymore realistic than plenty of 70s mecha.

It was the fact that it dared pit humans against other sentient beings. Previous mecha shows already did that, like Great Mazinger, Yamato, and even Grendizer to some extent, but they were never humans, just aliens who looked and acted like humans. Gundam took it further by making it against other humans. Other authors didn't want to offend the audience (like zeon could be akin to nazi germany) and didn't take the risk. Tomino did.
>>
>>15676457
In addition to Tetsujin and Giant Robo, I'd mention Ishinomori's Cyborg 009 as well.
>>
Shrine maidens
>>
>>15676464
And I have to correct myself here, because in Tetsujin 28, the enemies were humans as well. So Gundam wasn't the first to do that.

Gundam is just a trendsetter, and is the result of kids being bored with the super robo trend. Mazinger was a mega hit, but every other mecha show after that had declining ratings.
>>

Something actually good.

We've seen glimpses of it here and there, but it'd be interesting to see a show from the perspective of the officer who's been in for about four/five years and has a stressed marriage and so on.

Yep, a poorly executed version of Anon's idea.
IBO could've been so smart if it had the right people behind season 2.

They could've had Orga realize that the mercenary life would get them killed and shift Tekkadan's priorities to mining half-metals.
Also it would've made sense since Kudelia wanted to free Mars and one of the the first steps to freedom is being economically free.
So if Tekkadan had been able to develop presence as a major half-metal mining corporation on Mars they could've been key to freeing the planet from terran oppression while giving their fellow countrymen jobs.
The battles could've been with competing companies fighting for their own interests, and maybe a final battle with GH who wants to suppress them so they can't have a strong economic influence on mars.

Prisons become extremely overcrowded and a huge law reform takes place that only keeps the most hardened, depraved criminals in captivity. War has also been abolished across the globe, as space mining/manufacturing has developed renewable resources and energy that provide for everyone.

In this futuristic scenario, a semi-annual tournament is established for these criminals to fight in. It's basically a gladiator arena but with mechanical suits that link to the controllers spinal cord and allow full control. There are different weapon loadouts and fighting styles (think mma/martial arts stuff that applies to robots) and the rounds are basically 1v1 fights to the death with no breaks or draws. The overall winner of this tournament gets to live the rest of their life still in jail, but in luxurious conditions with endless resources fit for a king.

The series would feature lots of Gore (imagine the fighters getting torn out of their mechs but their spine stays attached to the control unit, or killing blows that crush the pilot inside the mech) and feature well animated fights that last for a few episodes each (think dragon Ball z but with absolutely no filler).

I was thinking about Gundam G but with adult themes...

In a distant land, there lies the five cities, each founded by one of the legendary heroes. These five cities believe that their ancestors came from across the seas to settle the land they live in, only to be driven to near defeat and enslavement by the mountain elves, giants who control the icy peaks surrounding the plain on which the cities are built. The heroes used great magic to transform five friends or lovers who made a sacrifice to bind themselves to their will as gigantic armoured machines, transforming on command. With their power, the elves were crushed and sent back into the mountains. Now three centuries later, the five cities plot and conspire against each other, their armies welled by haughty nobles who select and force promising citizens to be their machines; focusing on the politics and machinations of a new machine warrior and her pilot, they try to survive the byzantine politicking and warfare that engulfs their world as the mountain elves move upon the decadent cities once more...

I want a show where the main character is like a ~25 foot mecha and he carries the show
like back in the day he was piloted by this kid who was a super cheesy 80's anime protag and all his flashbacks are of fights with stiff, cheesy monsters and monologues about willpower and friendship

but his original pilot has been dead for decades and he's way past his prime, it's the future and mechas are basically used like cars, and the whole show revolves around him constantly being bought by different people, and being sold at like used mecha garages.
No one knows who he is anymore so they just treat him like some old beater, like he gets used to rob a bank, he gets bought by an office worker for his commute, he gets bought by a frat who uses him as the joyride mecha, etc. etc.

and he's just super jaded and nostalgic for the good old days

bonus points if the mecha's a girl, I dunno
