Also the arms race stuff with GN tech is fun to watch.

00 and to a lesser extent IBO have a few more interesting designs IMO, not to say UC doesn't have their share with the baund doc and Messela, but these two series pushed Gundam towards using more unconventionally designed mecha.

Idk, UC has some pretty weird designs throughout. The only series that didn't go freaky with at least one of the designs are CCA and Unicorn

SEED: Pacing. As bad as the story may have been, like 95% of SEED's episodes ended in a cliffhanger that led directly into the next episode, and not counting the clipshow episodes, I only recall one real filler episode that could have been skipped with no problems.

0079 - OYW
Zeta - Gryps Conflict
ZZ - Neo/Axis Zeon War (headed by Haman)
CCA - 2nd Neo Zeon War (headed by Char)
Unicorn - Laplace Box Conflict
F91 - Cosmo Babylonia Conflict
Victory - Zanscare Conflict

Even 0083 is about the GP02 conflict and the rise of the Titans. 0080, IgLOO, Thunderbolt, and 08th MS Team are the only UC entries that aren't entirely original in the basis of their conflict.
Having similar ideological bases doesn't mean the conflict is the same. You can simplify it to "Space people vs Space people vs Earth people" but that doesn't do any of the stories any justice, and then also applies to most AUs.

00's first season does (mostly) the best job of not painting sides as good or evil. You're rooting for Graham, Billy, Sergei, and Soma as much as you're rooting for CB.

Unicorn mostly just used existing suits, but it shows some of the weirder MSVs on screen for the first time like Juaggu, Zogok, and Gigan

Wing has the best uniforms in the franchise (Relena and Noin's Napoleonic outfits)
X has the only Gundam romance that's actually endearing
Turn A was better at.....cows, I guess...also doing away with the concept of AU which continues to piss off Gundam fans 18 years later (Thanks, Tomino!)
AGE ........had a man with an enormous head. Seriously, Gramps could fit an entire toddler in his mouth
00 had the best space revolutionaries, because Sell Us Teal Beans is the only revolutionary group to actually make good on the ideal of prompting human society to advance socially.
SEED had a far better "next step in human evolution" plot in that, unlike newtype ghost magic, psychic powers, and fairy dust, genetic engineering is a moral and social minefield that humanity is actually going to have to deal with one day.
Build Fighters had the best premise for explaining away the show's need to have a battle every episode, and has the best collection of battles in the franchise.
IBO had the most realistic depiction of the long-term debilitating effect that war has on the children that are the pilots in every Gundam show. The protagonists weren't otherwise normal kids autistically screeching about being forced to fight by ADULTS AND THEIR LIES, they were fundamentally broken individuals incapable of normal civilian life. Also the apparent "big bad" was just a fairly normal person on the other side of their ideology not a cartoonishly evil genocidal zealot.
