Do you think the colonies have an internet?
Is it one per cylinder or is it Side wide? Just how different do you think each one would be from the others?
>>
>>15639618
I imagine they share an internet because there's no reason to not have a universal communication network, but the lag would keep people sticking largely to websites from their own side, and they'd probably have local caches for the biggest sites.
Also servers for video games would probably be locked to each side, nobody on earth wants to play with that zeon faggot with 3 seconds of lag

Apparently, Side 3 can only access /m/, no wonder why Zeon is full of bitter shitposting faggits.
>>
>>15639641
But wouldnt mivnosky particles stop the signal?
MS and ships flying around in a Sida may even affect having Side wide internet.
>>
>>15639651
Well people can communicate in the UC. I imagine there'd be areas ships and mobile suits are supposed to keep clear of in order to not interrupt the path between satellite relays. And both sides would want to respect that in order to maintain connection to local troops and channels of diplomacy.
>>
>>15639651
Minovsky density is pretty low when there aren't ships or MS operating in the area, there's also laser communication which works as long as there's a line of sight.
>>
>>15639641
Do you think they can use proxies to appear as from other Sides?
>literally Zeon falseflaggers
>>
>>15640003
No reason why they wouldn't be able to if they were operating on a descendant of the internet protocol we have today, which they definitely would since it'd basically be impossible for us to start the internet over from scratch.

Imagine having to VPN into Side 2's servers of whatever game they created and IP locked. People say doing that shit for Japanese games is rough, but that would be a fucking nightmare.

>But muh Gundam MMO
It ain't worth it, son. Move to Side 2 or deal with it.
>>
>>15640003
Probably, but it would be easy to tell on IRCs due to the lag, which would only get worse if you have to route through a proxy.

Aren't computers in the UC fairly primitive as far as desktops go? I seem to remember them using terminals and trying to keep the 70s vibe going as far as private civilian systems go. I wouldn't be surprised if they're still using some kind of ARPANET.
>>
UC doesn't have internet outside this one scene in Crossbone ghost.
The internet was introduced to the public way after the creation of Gundam I there hasn't been much depiction of the world wide web throughout the series.
However this kinda makes sense since minovsky particles would probably mess with something like that.

Theres wi-fi in Thunderbolt
>>
>>15640428
That's one of the things that makes it kinda weird and Alt.UC imo.
A technology like that would've completely changed the story of older Gundam entries had it existed on their time.
>>
>>15639651
>>15640418
I'm watching Zeta right now and in the middle where the Titans are threatening with a colony drop the mayor orders somebody to come into contact with the titans online, this might just be in the translation though (EG).

I think it's like this anon said >>15640258
>>
>>15640444
I dont think it would have any impact in those stories
Unless if its Kamille or Jewdough having rants about adults in Space Twitter
>>
>>15640444
>A technology like that would've completely changed the story of older Gundam entries had it existed on their time.
Would it have? Minovsky physics still exist. The capabilities of wi-fi are severely degraded by those elements. Wireless information transfer is also not exactly a new technology; it existed in Gundam in various forms from the start. They just didn't have this specific technology at the time.

Besides, >>15640428 's picture is more likely to be an error on the part of the animators. I don't recall them ever actually using wi-fi in Thunderbolt, and I watched it fairly recently. Even if they had, they shouldn't have been able to because of the significant interference of the Thunderbolt sector.
>>
>>15640449
That anon's on point.
Zeta had extremely primitive versions of the internet and computers.
It had the classic sci fi element of audiovisual communication devices litered throughout the setting.
Also in Data the computers were shown to be able to transmit data and run somewhat complex programs (kamille did design part of the data using one.)
>>
>>15640471
That scene is about a guy scrolling through his family pictures, and its from season 2, when they are fighting in the south pole
Pretty sure the wi-fi sign was added for the sake of it
>>
>>15640255
35 minutes of lag, at least.
>>
>>15640497
>35 minutes of lag, at least.
Shit, you wouldn't even want to play a turn-based game with a dude from Jupiter. Every turn would be a 40-minute wait.
>>
>>15640509
more like an hour and 10 minutes
and that's assuming a perfect direct connection with no lag from routing
>>
>>15640509
shooters or fighting games would be an absolute nightmare
>>
>>15640465
We are severely underestimating the importance and prevalence of the internet in modern society.
If the modern internet with all its abilities existed in something like Zeta the Titans' war crimes or Anaheim's sketchy dealings would've been made public and exposed so quickly.
One of the reasons the UC is the way it is is due to the fact that so much information is controlled by governments.
Just look at the initial episodes of any UC Gundam series.
Typically the MC will have information held back from them until they officially join one of the military factions.

That's how something like 0080 can occur and no one knows about it.
In fact now that I remembered 0080 is a great example of this. Chris is constantly hiding info from Al and Bernie (although they are too).
There's also the whole ending where the feddies pretty much coverup a Gundam battle in a colony.
>>
Would newtypes have an advantage while playing MMOs?
>>
>>15640539
There was also that part early on where Al and his friends were arguing with a girl who didn't belive that the Federation had mobile suits
They later make fun of her when theres GM's all over the colony patrolling the streets after the inital battle
>>
>>15640540
No

Why would they?

>>
>>15639618
The naming and placement of the sides makes no sense.
>>
>>15641067
>The naming and placement of the sides makes no sense.
The sides are literally placed at the Earth-Moon Lagrange points, of which there are five. Three of those points would require some maintenance to keep an object on it, but I suspect that Gundam doesn't really acknowledge that (it's probably not a big deal anyways.)

The names are whatever. I guess.
>>
>>15641060
Iirc I don't think you can maintain a boner or even get one in zero g
Unless they use space viagra
>>
>>15641060
Thunderbolt zeeks were into teen porn, so, probably, that's their top genre
>>

Font Baud uncovered a Zanscare conspiracy while also shitposting about the covered up GP Project conspiracy online, and he's from Side 3. Then he went and became a nu-Titan come Dust.

What amazes me is how derelict some of these colonies were. Texas colony apparently ended up a desert after one of its mirrors was knocked out of alignment and everyone moved away, but isn't humanity still suffering from overpopulation? Why abandon an entire manmade space colony that just needs its mirror fixed when you could use it to actually settle some people?
>>
>>15642070
>but isn't humanity still suffering from overpopulation?
Half of humanity died. There's no more overpopulation.
>>
>>15642070
>Why abandon an entire manmade space colony that just needs its mirror fixed when you could use it to actually settle some people?
Texas wasn't designed for large-scale human habitation, it was a tourism and ranching colony. It also wasn't abandoned simply because its mirror was misaligned. Some fuckers decided to wage a war in Side 5 and fuck up the colonies there, so everybody just kind of left.

Then some fuckers came and blew holes in what was left of Texas.

Fuckers.

Anyways, at this point in time humanity wasn't suffering from overpopulation issues (see: fuckers.)

>>
>>15639618
There probably isn't, too much Minovskyshit/particle fuckery. Unless they retcon it like in Thundercunt where they have smartphones with cell signal inside a fucking submarine.

The lack of internet would also explain why spacenoids are such autistic, ignorant, murderous assholes. They have literally nowhere else to channel their primal urges unlike us civilized folk with our cuck porn, e-commerce and anonymous shitposting.
>>
Reminder that one small colony that was forgotten literally regressed into a society of spear-wielding sun-moon worshipping religious retards, and it's been less than 90 years since the colony was created.

I mean, there's old people in the tribe who should still remember what modern society was like.

Also, the tribe were still able to use the colony's radio, sensors, and operate the colony's dock. But they don't know a fucking thing about the rest of the outside earthsphere.
>>
>>15642108
How do you fucking forget about an entire space colony?

Wouldn't Federation /k/ make more sense? They spend the majority of the One Year War fighting mechs with tanks, planes, and warships, and then even after the OYW they try to stick to their pre-mecha fleet doctrine until some asshole fires a nuke into their fleet.

I wonder if you could win a game of Gihren's Greed as the Federation using only tanks, planes, and warships. Hmm...
