If you want an actual answer, it's because Bandai officially calls it the Hyaku Shiki. I can't claim to be an expert, but if I were to take a guess how that happened maybe Zeta Gundam predated the current practice of translating all instances of #式 as Type #. Or maybe it was around even then, but the world just wasn't as connected and whoever they had on english didn't realize there was a standard translation practice back then. Either way, the name was chosen and people have stuck with it since.

It's pretty rare for Bandai to change its english. The only thing I can think of offhand is how all the X kits went from Mobile Suit Loading *insert system* to *insert system* Loading MS, and that was probably just to make it match the other translations.

Well, the #1 and #2 nuclear generators at Fukushima were "translated' to Daiichi and Daini in the news, which is fucking retarded given how they're ACTUALLY numbers and not names.

2) Probably the real reason: Copyrighting issues regarding the name for merchandising (the Elmeth/Hermes ran into problems with merchandising because エルメス is used by the French brand and they ended up having to label all of the toys and stuff "Lalah Sun's Mobile Armour" instead and probably wanted to avoid that happening again).

All the Zeke, Paul, Betty thingie are Allied codenames. Not the real name in itself.

Also you need to know some names that has a "affiliation". Like Zero Shiki Kanjou Sentouki 21-gata is obviously "Zero fighter Type-21". But then you have A7M with the allied codename "Sam". A7M has a Japanese name, which is Reppuu. So that plane is meant to be called Reppuu. Sam is the codename used by the side not them.

Also Zero in itself is a Japanese name. Sure, it's an English loan name, but Japanese call it that as well, so it counts as a Japanese word that happened to be loaned from English.

You realize that Bandai is basically extremely generous when it comes to toys right? The amount of toy you get for a $10-15 model kit is on the level of $60-70 figmas and the main RD line, the ANIME line, puts almost all similar toy lines to shame with the amount of accessories and effects that are packed in by default. I'm not saying they're consumer friendly or something but in the toy world there are few, probably no, better players in terms of value.

I suppose it could've been given a name along the lines of like the Zeta or Delta gundams. But it was a "failed" prototype, so I guess don't give it an official name? I dunno, seems more like a rule of cool thing since it's also gold

Same here, "Burnern" always triggered me as well for its wrongness. Although for 100% accuracy it would be "Full Vernian," which ALSO triggers me because that sounds like something related to Round Vernian VIFAM.
