>i don't know how can i explain it but the drama feels forced

Because they tried to make a SEED-type story in order to appeal to it's fanbase, just one set within the Universal Century in order to appeal to older Gunota. It's the two styles clashing, with the CE influence making it feel more super robot-y than typical UC (and yes, I'm including Newtype Bullshit in this). Not to mention they have to make Unicorn seem like the events are this big deal when they can't interfere or alter the course of UC in any way so it amounts to a big pile of nothing. A very nicely animated pile of nothing, but a pile of nothing all the same.

Unicorn is the modern Stardust Memory. You watch it for the MSVs and the music, not for the plot or characters.

Basically.

Sick and tired of you faggots always bitching about muh plot, muh lore, muh drama.

A true /m/an is into mecha design and how cool they look animated, anything else is trivial.

Go to /a/ to discuss anything else.

Honestly I would not ask for "deep lore" or sociopolitical commetary or anything like that. It's literally this simple: make me interested in 2-3 characters enough that I care about watching them talk to each other, and you've succeeded. You achieve this by having entertaining dialogue and characterization. It's the meat and bones of what allows you to sit through the more boring expository. You need to want to see the core people interact.

In Unicorn, after the very well-paced first few episodes (it helps having a good score and good action), I realized that I did not give a shit about anybody or any of their conversations. Banana and Audrey are both boring as fuck characters, along with basically all of the supporting cast. They somehow manage to be more boring than the boring-by-design Marida.

It's not really unique to Unicorn --many anime, including many Gundam and other /m/ series, are written by Japanese autismos that are incapable of portraying charismatic exchanges-- but it's still a deep fundamental problem with the work.

It was great mechporn though

I watched it with a bunch of people who wanted to see some pretty anime, and while I intended to just shut up and let them watch it, I ended up explaining some basics about minofsky particles and newtypes because Unicorn explains jack shit and they couldn't follow it.

Obviously I like it as a dumb but pretty UC entry, but all they needed to do was add some basic explanation and it could have been a great gateway into Gundam but instead they made it for hardcore fans only.

Wasn't Unicorn a light novel before they eventually decided to make it into this huge movie? I feel like was always created as a love letter to old fans more than some kind of Gateway Gundam. That seems to be more the job of the AUs.
>>
>>15635912
How dare you compare a uc/cca mash-up to '83
Stardusts artwork alone is legend.
>>
It's both incredibly derivative of existing UC material with it's concepts and plot points yet had to be written in such a way that it had no lasting effect on it's timeline. As a result it's just kind of pointless as anything other than a spectacle.

I think it's bad and that Fukui is a fake fan who either didn't watch Z, ZZ, and CCA or forgot what they established and didn't care to rewatch them before writing Unicorn.

The Federation's leadership don't give a shit who's in power and they don't care who dies because "humanity could use some culling". They're a bunch of old men who are set for life and are beyond caring. They're willing to ingratiate themselves to anyone, anyone, even though the Federation still had the resources to crush just about any uprising. But all of the sudden they're sending colony lasers, flagships with brand new MS, and hitsquads out en masse over a box and some Neo-Zeon remnants. Why? It's not even important. Martha says it herself, "We'll say it's fake", and it applies to basically anything the box or the Sleeves could possess. Also, people still hate Zeon per Z and ZZ, so I'm not sure where FF is getting this bright idea for a sanction on the Earth led by him, stringing along the colonies. Sweetwater was basically Australia for the Zeek remnants who didn't radicalize and turn into terrestrial terrorists immediately. Even with the Titans I don't think the masses ever hated the federation as much. In the latter part of Z Jamitov even feels confident the federation won't drop their support despite Jerid's dumb rant at Dakar being broadcast and all the shit the Titans had pulled up to that point. There was unrest sure, but nothing to suggest that the masses would side with a revived Zeon after Char tried to drop Axis on Earth. Hell, AEUG basically become a faux branch of the federation in ZZ working to stop Neo-Zeon, however ineffectively it could with little help besides a few GM IIIs apparently.

I'm pretty sure Fukui's a fake fan. He like, didn't get Z or ZZ and probably didn't understand most of CCA because he never watched Z or ZZ. He just watched the MSG Trilogy movies, CCA, and then said "Gundam is cool so I'll write fanfic about it because Sunrise is sponsoring me"

I greatly enjoyed it. Mobile suits and MS battles are fantastic, music is great, story is good, etc. I think most people had a problem with the characters. Personally, I thought Banagher was a serviceable MC that you could sympathize with and while he does give off Kira Yamato vibes, he at least doesn't act like a wise messiah nor does he survive getting blown up 3 times. I think some people find him boring simply because previous UC MCs like Amuro, Kamille, and Uso were just that good.

Gundam Unicorn displeases me, but I don't hate it.

Ha ha ha. How wrong you are.

Say that again, punk. The puru was the only reason I kept watching this boring shitshow.

I got my nice reward at the last episode for sticking around. 0/10 never again

>the drama feels forced
Don't ever watch SEED or Destiny then, they are a thousand times worse in that regard. Stargazer ultimately fixes this but at the cost of expecting you to know that backstory of the former shows.
>>
>>15636657
SEED is still so much better in terms of forced drama than Destiny.
>>
It was solid UC, didn't feel like a segment of larger events like CCA and later UC, Sure the Newtype bullshit was cheesy af but still made for some grins and made Banana more pivotal to the plot than other protags. Plus Sawano's best soundtrack of all time makes it watchable for that reason alone.

I agree.

>when it shows an actual inside of the cockpit plus Kira banging away at the keyboard to recongfigure the Gundam several times earlier on
SEED has several major flaws but pretending to be Real Robot when it's Super Robot is not one of them

As someone who watched all the Universal Century Gundams recently, Unicorn is what I remember the least.

I just remember some weird scavenger hunt started by some senile old guy to pretty animation.

And stupid Kai, Beltorchika, and Bright cameos.
